The store seems to go on forever!

To say this is an antique store is like saying McDonald's is a place to buy French fries. The Old Crow Antique Mall is so much more than your typical antique store. I've been to many and most antique places simply display their stuff without themes or much organization. Basically, they are nothing more than indoor garage sales with stuff as old and in need of repair as the place itself. Old Crow Antique Mall is very different. It's more like a multi-faceted establishment -- part antique store, part museum (where you can buy from the collections), part furniture store, part collectibles shop, and part jewelry store with a place you can enjoy a cup of latte while you decide how you're going to cart home everything you want to buy. Yes, there are antiques here, beautifully displayed in glass cases as well as in cubicles. If you need something from the display cases there are plenty of employees walking around ready to assist. In the display cases, I also saw collections of coins, baseball cards, toy cars including Matchbox, precious stones, jewelry, knives, plates, fine ceramics and statues. In the lower level, there is a collection of animal heads suitable for mounting above your stone fireplace. Scattered throughout the store were furniture pieces of all types and sizes. (Some we are considering for our home.) There were lots of vinyl records although their conditions and pricing weren't the best, but we did find some new Longaberger baskets that were easily half the normal price! There were also new pieces done by artisans that technically aren't antiques but are something you might consider when adding to your home to give it more class and character. If you're not in the mood to buy, but you're a visual person who loves to window shop, There are enough items that you can walk around admiring for hours. All in all, it's a great place to spend a relaxing afternoon.

Sells a lot of stuff that is viölentły r*c*st and when asked about it, pretends they've never seen it before and have no control over what's on the shelves.

We came out for root beer floats today. It was great. Staff are super friendly. Place is clean and very organized. I love all the different selections of root beers. It took us longer to decide on which root beer we wanted than actually drinking our floats. They don't just serve root beer floats so check put their other items. Pick a soda and walk to the counter to pick your ice cream flavor. I got vanilla ice cream for my float with Jones soda. My little one got American soda with root beer ice cream. They have a punch card so don't forget about since the 10 one is on the house. I didn't get a chance to actually go through the entire store but I'm sure that would have been great. See you next time

Wow !!! This is an amazing new mall in South Lakewood/ Littleton area. It's a huge Antique mall with a really cool root beer bar inside of it. It has just opened in the last month or two after being open only a couple days and then closing due to Covid. But now is open an almost full. They have some absolutely amazing antique dealers in here. Had a great afternoon looking around.

I enjoyed walking around in here, but found everything to he pretty over priced, probably due to its location.

I promised Jack Wartell (The Antique Trader, owner/appraiser) a scathing review back in February…read more2022, but then life got in the way with deaths and illnesses in the family and other personal matters. So, consider how serious I must be about this review if I never let it drop off of my to-do list! This guy is unethical at the very least, but is also likely breaking the law in how he conducts his business. In case he tries to deny ever doing business with me, I'll just say this: I'm easy enough to find on social media, and I have email proof to back up my story. In my initial email contact with Jack, I requested an appraisal on an antique table and some jewelry that I inherited when my mother passed away (several generations of family heirlooms). I sent him pictures of everything and he asked to meet me first thing the following morning. We talked by phone that morning and, when I asked how much the appraisals would be, he said that he was also an antiques dealer and that he wouldn't charge me for the appraisals if I ended up selling to him. It seemed odd that he would ask to meet in a public place where I would only have the jewelry on me--not the table--given the table was the primary thing I contacted him about. When we met, he immediately told me the table would go for about $600 and gave me a couple of businesses to reach out to. He clearly wasn't interested in providing a formal appraisal and did not provide me with any paperwork, which makes sense given that he never saw the table. In hindsight, it is clear to me that he had no intention of providing appraisals for the jewelry either; he was there to buy from me. He told me that none of the diamonds were large enough to be worth anything on their own--that the pieces would have to be melted down for gold. He offered me $420 total for ~12 pieces (my written notes are a little fuzzy on the exact number, but it was roughly 12). He said he would only be able to make about a $100 profit, so he couldn't go any higher. Yeah...sure...whatever [eye roll]. Regardless, I sold the items to him. I asked for a receipt, but he did not provide one. I can't recall the exact reason he gave me...he was in a rush to get to another appointment and didn't have time to write it up? He didn't have the receipt book with him? At any rate, a week goes by and I am literally losing sleep over having sold my family heirlooms. I emailed him and asked if I could purchase the items back, offering to pay him MORE than the profit he said he would make. He responded, "OMG, Breanna, simply not possible. We talked about this at length when we met." No, we absolutely did not. We never spoke about anything close to, "Are you sure you want to do this? You can't get it back if you do." To the contrary, he said on multiple occasions, "It's just stuff--it's not your mom/grandma." When I asked why it wasn't possible, he responded, "The fact is, it's been sold." I don't believe that for a minute. If that were true, he would surely have said that in his initial response instead of the cold, uncaring "OMG..." statement. I know now that it is against the codes of the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal (USPAP) to serve as both an antique dealer and an appraiser at the same time. If he wanted to buy from me, he would have to refuse to appraise the items. So, while not technically illegal, it is unethical and subjects him to disciplinary action under the USPAP code. This explains why he did not do formal appraisals. And by refusing to give me documentation of the jewelry sale, he was likely 1) ripping me off because the items were worth more than he said they were, and 2) doing an under-the-table transaction to avoid paying net gain taxes. At every turn of this transaction I went against my gut, and I know I have no one to blame but myself for that. I take full responsibility for mishandling the situation and allowing him to manipulate me. My only hope now is that this review costs him business, revenue, and reputation.

We took an antique dresser, mirror, and buffet in to sell on consignment. Didn't hear from them…read morefor around 10 weeks. Dropped by to check on the status, and my items were gone. The owner Jack said that they didn't sell for 30-40 days, so he sent them to Goodwill. After a 10 minute discussion, he changed the story and said he sent them to ARC. He never asked us if he could do that, he never told us when we left the items that there would be a time limit, all he would have to have done, was give us a quick phone call. Those items did not belong to him, they belonged to us. If we would have wanted to donate them, we would have done that. He was oddly defiant. He didn't see the need to explain his actions or apologize. I got the feeling that he does this all the time. He told us this was just regular consignment behavior, but afterward I researched it on Google, and of course, he's dead wrong. I wonder if other consignors have had the same experience. What if the items are really sold, and he doesn't want to pay the owners? If he truly donated them, then where's the receipt for our taxes for charitable deduction? This business is shady to say the least. I would not recommend anyone doing business with them.
