It is cool to pursue these shops and find the old remnants of the Victorian age and the west. I have lived here for 19 years, and this strip has changed. Recently, there have been tons of little great restaurants popping up (Maria Empanada, Adelito), very cool little bars ( Black Crown), Coffee shops (Corvus roasters) and also, well, lots of pot shops- can't say much about those. Also a bit of a sketch factor that is cleaning up, but still sketchy especially around Iowa St & Herman's Hideaway. Vintage and thrift shops abound along this strip as well- a great destination for your 1980's collecting is Fifty Two 80's A Totally Awesome Shop. For your costume needs, try Regal Vintage. I avoid Flossy McGrews, and it may even be gone. Terrifying store. But that's the fun of it! He is incredibly artsy and very friendly and welcoming. This store is highly recommended. They made fun of someone's name kinda looking down on the person while doing so. Management seems to always be off too. One time I purchased a 50$ gift card and was told that even if I lost the flimsy little paper the credit is written on, my name is on the system and it can be looked up. Months passed and when I went in the store after losing the gift card (again it's on paper) they said it was never a thing that they look up gift card by name. I won't ever go back after these interactions. Yes their selection is nice but it's overpriced and a rip off of someone else's culture or religion.
