Oyster Pond Beach is conveniently located near Chatham's Main Street…read more When I'm in Chatham I don't come here a whole lot, but I did kayak here a few times years back. I'd highly recommend coming here for that activity. This is also probably a good spot to take young kids since the water here is fairly mellow. This spot has real bathrooms which is a major plus, so many of the town's beaches have port-a-potties. Signs posted advise no dogs allowed on beach from 5/1-9/15, be careful with that, the town has some tyrants on duty that you may encounter if you break that rule. Just be careful on the beaches here with dogs in general, the town doesn't enforce laws the same way the National Seashore does on other parts of the Cape. A family member was hassled on another beach about her small pet. I also noticed that all watercraft on the beach must have a permit from the town's park department. If you stand on the beach and look to your right you will see a big house on the hill. It's rumored that it belongs to a former American Idol judge.

Thompson's is a large, undeveloped conservancy area with several walking trails where dog owners are comfortable walking their dogs on- and off-leash. There are trash containers and lots of animal scat on and near trails along with thorns, nettles, and other things to get caught in dogs coats.
