Kim, RK, Dawn, Crystal, Noah (Olivia, the voice of an Angel) and everyone else took the time to explain, embrace, advise and guide us through this most uncertain time of our lives. They were always available, always attentive, always welcoming and extremely patient with the repeated questions. While a Funeral Home/Crematorium is not something that you frequent, this is a place of Love, Kindness, Understanding and Guidance. They are all now a part of our Family and will be Remembered on a daily basis. Without their experience and professional but comforting attention, this could have been anything less than perfect. The whole experience was, in fact, Perfect on all levels. Thank You All. We Love You. Could not recommend more. They will give you a warm hug, take your hand and memorialize your Loved One with Grace and Compassion.

Direct Cremation Services of Virginia

When my mother was put into Comfort Care, I had researched cremation services and pretty much knew…read morewhat I wanted before I interviewed (in person) four crematories/funeral homes. Two of them failed to disclose all their fees until I asked additional questions (based on my research), one of them was double the price of the other three, and the fourth one was Direct Cremation Services. I met with a gentleman named Kip, who didn't try to upsell me, and gave me a package that met my requests. The costs were significantly lower than the other three places. He assured me that Direct Cremation Services would take care of everything, and explained both the logistical process and the paperwork/payment process. When my mother passed away, on a weekend, Kip returned my (notification) call, emailed me the link to take care of the documents, and immediately send his team out to transport my mother's remains. He told me the paperwork could wait until Monday. Thereafter, everything went as promised, and I picked up my mother's "cremains" yesterday. An unbelievably smooth process during a difficult time. I can't recommend this place enough.

I chose Direct Cremation because of all of the positive reviews. Unfortunately, my experience was…read morevery different from what I read. Having never been through the experience of managing the passing of a loved one, I didn't know what to expect. I arranged for DC to provide services. A few days later I bunch of emails with tasks assigned out of the blue. I called to ask about them and was directed to my funeral director who told me those were optional. A couple days later I got a contract and a payment link. Again, I called to question and let the director know we wanted to have an urn for the ashes and that I needed everything shipped to me. Shortly after, I got a new contract and a new payment link. Days passed and I called again to get status. Still waiting. A few days later, I called again. Should be done by end of week. See a pattern? No contacts by DC. Every call was made by me. The end of the week came and I finally got a call. My loved one was ready to be picked up. Wait, what? I paid for shipping. " Oh yeah, that's what I meant". Really?? Anyway, the company provided the service I paid for but communication was non existent. I don't think I ever got a "sorry for your loss" from our funeral director. Given the industry the operate in, I would have expected a little more.

I cannot say enough good things about Brown Funeral Home. My brother died suddenly and from the…read moremoment I arrived with other family members to make my brother's arrangements, we were treated with the utmost respect and compassion. My brother had money to pay for a funeral many times over, but without a death certificate my nephew was unable to access any information regarding life insurance policies or bank accounts. When we arrived, we laid our cards down on the table, advised how much we had to spend and Jorge (our funeral planner) went to work crunching numbers and delivered a funeral package that honored my brother and was within our budget. I have contracted with other funeral homes over the years for other funerals and have been subjected to high pressure tactics exploiting my grief to try to up-sell me into buying things that were unnecessary. Not Brown's. We were shown only those things that were within our budget and not shown high end, top of the line caskets and vaults that would only compound our grief. We received a funeral that was thousands of dollars cheaper than what we would have paid in Maryland. And everyone I spoke to went out of their way to make our family feel special and accommodate all of our needs. I read some of the other posted reviews regarding Brown Funeral Homes and I'd like to correct a misconception. Some people believe it is the funeral home's obligation to produce a death certificate shortly after they pay the funeral home to procure them. They can't produce what they don't have. Anyone who googles "acquiring a death certificate in West Virginia" will learn that West Virginia is one of the worst states in the country to acquire a death certificate. They are ridiculously slow. I developed quite an affinity for the staff of Brown's. They treated me with exceptional professionalism. Please be kind when seeking a death certificate from them. If you get frustrated, just imagine how frustrated they must be trying to procure death certificates for the many families they serve. These are good people. These are trustworthy people. Trust them with your families' needs. You won't be disappointed. Thomas Ross

I would give this company a 0/10! She is really a disrespectful individual that won't take accountability for her mistakes! How you think a customer feels when you keep trying to bring up what a customer should have know as if I was the moving expert. I hired you to do a job and you failed! Don't give this business your time or money because Susan will try and gaslight you and make a 2-3 day move all one day so she can get as much money from you. Then if something goes wrong it's your fault for not telling her something when you gave her all the information she needed. But she didn't do her job so it's your fault! I didn't even bring up all the scratches, dents, dings all on my walls and stairs her crew made! I had thought I was going to be able to up the stars after she reached out, but I can't as she seems to forget she the one that botched this job! Now I have to go in my pocket to pay someone to complete the job she PROMISED! Horrible business owner!! Update**To the owner..there wasn't a "crew" it was one person who came out to do half the job back in February which took all day as it was on Valentine's Day and weekend. As I stated I needed to start moving in my new place and wanted to make sure I went through as much as possible totes/boxes I could so I separated what needed to stay and what needed to go back to VA. And I contacted the person (Steve) who helped me out (not you) during this time so we could see when it would be a good time for both of us. As we all have lives and not just around fanning ourselves apparently what you do all day. So yeah I still have several empty totes that needed to be taken back to VA. So stop with your arrogance as if I'm trying to get over on you. I'm a veteran so I paid my dues and worked for everything I ever had! And I showed you my entire house as you said on FaceTime I had a lot. I have it recorded so stop your madness. Take accountability that you messed this entire move up and wasted everyone's time! It's done and over with so no need to reply anymore I'm done with it. And I don't accept your apology.
