Some of my favorite loose leaf teas. I come in this shop periodically while in downtown Golden. I often come in to just enjoy the smells, samples, and new tea blends. I also periodically buy loose leaf tea from them. Some of my favorites have been their bee pollen tea (such a unique flavor), a fruity uloong, and their rooibos chai. Rooibos is especially hard to find fun flavor blends of and they have so many. The staff are always helpful and knowledgable. Sustainability tip: Bring back your empty tea tin and they will refill it for $1 off I belive. I would love it if I could buy their tea by the oz in my own container though as it is quite expensive for a whole tin at times and I would love to try more of their flavors. read more

The shop is arranged very well so that you can shop on different sections of teas. I'd definitely go back to this store to check out and shop again for items. What a charming little loose leaf tea shop! This is exactly what I was looking for. The shop is located in the historic downtown Golden, so be sure to wear walking shoes so that you can check out everything this quaint town has to offer. The shop feels rustic and cozy. I love that there are little bottles of tea leaves next to the tins you can smell so that you know what you're buying. I went around and smelled every blend and I was thoroughly impressed! That's saying a lot because I'm not a huge tea drinker. But I bought 5 tins today (and got another for free) and I could've bought more! I got Enchanted Earl Grey, Ginger Chai, White Peach, Ginger (nothing else added to it), Bee Pollen Black, and Butterfly Garden that changes color when you add lemon to it. The lovely human working there was so helpful as well. I could tell that they thoroughly enjoyed their job. I was greeted warmly when I walked in and made to feel like I was truly welcome. You don't get that much with customer service these days. It's safe to say that I will be back, and I will tell everyone I know about this tea shop. Top notch tea. High quality ingredients. One of the best loose leaf tea establishments I've been to in Colorado. I have purchased 4 types of teas. And all of them have been smooth, flavorful, and automatic. The attendant behind the counter was very informative and knew a lot about the different teas available. I had a lot of questions and she was able to answer all of them, no problem! I love the interior of the shop. Simple, clean, and well organized. Rotating samples are available! It was a blustery day in Downtown Golden so we were pretty much hopping into each passing business to check things out. we were totally blown away by what we found at Old Barrel Tea Company. I can't even begin to elaborate on the amount of teas they offered as well as the selection. There were also so many amazing gifts! From tea towels, to mugs, bee/tea themed t-shirts, body products and quirky loose tea holders this place has got it going on! At the main counter they have many teas hot at the ready to try. Most lightly sweetened (they use cane sugar as honey can alter the taste of the tea) and contain caffeine. The staff are friendly and quick to answer any questions you may have. My favorite feature was the aquaponics system near the front door. It features plants and fish for a symbiotic surprise! read more

Golden's downtown area is full of terrific options, and Old Barrel Tea Company is among the best. While fighting a nasty upper respiratory condition, my physician recommended battling my issues with a lot of tea as part of the fight. So, while in Golden on a business visit, I stopped by Old Barrel Tea Company, and I could not have had a better overall experience. The sign outside the store told of sales, and a wonderfully tasty Valley Orchard and Ginger were among the tasting options. It brought me in, and the store's amazing scent was my first impression. Great customer service, truly a high level bolstered by knowledge and kindness from staffer Kateri. I ended up buying the Valley Orchard & Ginger tea, along with a great cup, strainer, and timer. Really cute shop with a huge variety of teas. They have them organized by location, the back to the front is least caffeinated to most caffeinated. They also have samples at the register. There are a ton of all kinds of teas: black, green, herbal, oolong and they have classic flavors and innovative ones. They sell tins and jars. The staff were very friendly and super helpful. They also have things for the kitchen, tea towels, timers, and of course teapots and tea infusers. They also have a set of tea that has something like 4 or 5 different teas you can try. Walked into the Old Barrel Tea Company a couple weeks ago and was very happy to find vanilla rooibos tea and a strainer shaped like an upside down top hat that probably fits most cups.
