The girl who was serving had to manage the whole pub on her own. You could tell she was flustered and didn't have time for anyone. I don't blame her as it was a busy afternoon. Dirty glasses, we had a cocktail pitcher and both glasses had lipstick on them. The replacements weren't much better and we had to clean them with a napkin. Good points - The food and drinks came out fast! The pub itself has that old school Wetherspoons look which is nice and has plenty of history about the building and surrounding area dotted around the pub which is a nice touch. *Bonus* Can you spot the clip i attached to my girlfriends cardigan, she had that on for hours without noticing.

While you can hang out in the crowd and grab a pint easily without that, if you want to dine in the quieter dining area with views of the water you may want to do so as well. Especially if you want the elbow room to enjoy such great food. The Mayflower is named after the famous ship carrying the early American settlers, and the church tied to this voyage is steps away where apparently an unmarked grave hosts the resting spot of the captain of that ship. It's candlelit and kind of romantic on the top floor with great views. For food, my wife had the chicken pie and I had the special of the day, lamb stew with housemade potato salad. It was warm, flavorful and delicious, sentiments my wife shared on the pot pie. We split an order of mac and cheese, and it was also delicious. Such great comfort food. I had a small scotch pour and an ale, my wife a glass of wine. I had a small port to pair with the sticky toffee pudding at the end which was terrific. My wife swears by Gordon Ramsey's recipe of the same but this one was hard to beat IMO.

Cappuccino was delicious. When we first walked in (main seating area is toward the back), I noticed a faint sewage smell, which was unpleasant. I wondered if they were cleaning drains. Bleh. Don't get me wrong, I'm not snobby and I really like little undiscovered pubs which honestly represent London, but this one just simply isn't very nice. There are probably a handful of locals who spend most of their time here and so when someone new walks in, you immediately feel all beady eyes upon you. The staff didn't do a great job of making my friend and I feel particularly welcome and I was tempted to just walk out but didn't want to appear rude which is quite ironic considering they probably would have preferred us to leave. The toilets aren't very clean and I found the bar staff (or the one member of staff) to be quite unfriendly. I'm sure those six locals like it here, but I wouldn't brave it if I were you.

That's usually not a problem in London at most places, but I was wrong. Before getting a drink I decided to go to the toilet. As I was looking for it, an old waitress started yelling at me loudly. She was asking me what I wanted. When I told her I wanted to go to the loo she said, "Have you asked me?" I asked her politely if there was a problem, "NO, I just like to be asked by you folks" was her reply! I left the pub without using the toilet or getting a drink, feeling unwelcome and humiliated for the first time since I have been here. Terrible people and horrible pub. Avoid at all costs.

It is one of those pubs that are really only frequented by the locals, but the bar staff are pretty cool, and it is reasonably large. Still the pub does have a lot of charm about it, even if there isn't a huge selection of beers on tap (though I usually only drink Stella when I'm in England, though I had been drinking a few of the ales this time).
