a burger and fries on a plate
    Wendy R.

I stopped in for lunch with my sister and had high hopes for something delicious. I ordered their chicken sandwhich but the waitress came back and said they didn't have that so I ordered their vegan burger with a side of hash browns instead of fries and my sister got their mushroom Swiss burger. The place had one other lady at the bar and it was a longer wait that I would have expected for our two plates. The vegan burger was surprisingly good- I would just suggest serving the sauce on the side as mine had too much and made the sandwhich very messy to eat even after scraping off a considerable amount. My sister liked her burger too. The diner could use some warming up and music. It was dead quiet in there and has kind of has a church basement feel to it.

Good food and the chef is willing to get creative with customizing your order if it isn't busy. Cinnamon rolls are really good too.

One of the interesting things was the condiment cow, where you milk the teat of your choice to obtain ketchup, mustard, or mayo. There's a few coolers with a selection of local meats and cheeses. The interior is small; approximately ten tables, if I recall correctly. It's of the better options in town - otherwise you're in for a bit of a drive for a meal.

Inside, there's an entire fridge stocked with Wisconsin cheese! Not to mention the ice cream bar. Since I was short on time, I ordered quickly and went for a chicken wrap. I probably should've gone for a burger (their specialty), but sometimes you're just not in the mood for one, you know? The wrap itself was a bit skimpy, but the fries came through. They were extra crispy. Let's talk about the sauce bar. Best part of the place. I had to "udder" my ketchup and ranch--it doesn't get much more Wisconsin than that. Next year, I'll be back to give Udder Brothers a real shot with one of their burgers, some ice cream, and some cheese to go. It's definitely worth a stop for something unique but probably should get yourself a burger.

It was so GOOD! Loaded with meat and fresh toppings and lovely toasted ciabatta bread made this sandwich excellent. Lots of table seating. Patio for warmer days. Easy path on/off freeway. When you enter, you walk straight ahead to the counter to order. It has a large dining area with plenty of natural light from the large windows. The design is upbeat and fun. When we arrived, around 1pm, there were only a few small groups. We got to order right away, a couple of salads and iced tea. They give you a number placard, which you take to the table, and then they deliver the food. The server was pleasant and helpful. It was cold and windy outside, and unfortunately it wasn't much warmer inside. We went to find a table somewhere warm and not made colder by the doors that led directly outside, since there is no vestibule. No luck, the place was just cold. Good thing I had my knit hat. After a short while, we got our two salads. I got the Empire Pecan Salad, and my partner got the Southwest Chicken Salad. They looked great. Plenty of mixed ingredients, good portions, and everything was fresh. Much of the time when you get a good salad, it's only the top layer and everything below is lettuce. These salads were full of tasty stuff all the way to the bottom. Might be one of the best salads I have had in this class of restaurants. So our visit was mixed. The food was very good, but it was so cold inside that it made things uncomfortable. Even though we were away from the front door, there is a side door that people kept exiting from, and the cold air just blew right through the place. We would come back, just not during the cold months.

Our server Carol helped my wife and me and her party as well that day. They were complaining from the time they walked in. When they asked for special treatment and got it (ordering breakfast during lunch), Michelle chose not to eat. As a former business owner, I do not like it when people leave hit job type reviews when they are not deserved. I am only surprised that no one has reviewed Big Bill's since. I was not going to review the place as I have reviewed it before. It hasn't changed - it's still great. We were staying at 305 North Inn up the street and took advantage of the $10 per person per day credit they offered at Big Bill's. Every day our servers were responsive and the food delicious. You can't go wrong. The prices are still low and the environment is still warm and inviting. I'm impressed!
