The Nem were the perfect crunchy, savory start. My Thiéboudienne (the national dish) was hearty and loaded with flavor--even more impressive, the spice-filled marinade had seeped into every part of the whole fish, something that I don't always find in other Senegalese restaurants. The Thiébou C'est Bon (grilled tilapia with seafood rice) was equally mouth-smacking, loaded with a tasty onion sauce that had us grinning. And for the meat lovers, the chewy Lamb Dibi should satisfy. Portions were huge enough to satisfy any hungry big mama. The place is completely no frills, so don't expect even heat to be working on frigid nights. Just don your Canada Goose and you'll be fine--the piping hot, freshly cooked dishes will make up for it.

You can taste the Vietnamese influence from the French colonial rule during IndoChina Wars. While hard times, it's bittersweet when we see how our marginalized ancestors will still do their best to adapt and make delicious food for the family Entrees - I am still quite new to Senagalese food so will not try to butcher it. But really make me tear up how cultural exchange influence each other. I taste familiarity yet entirely new experience in some of the dishes. And definitely, feels right at home at the same time.

Apparently at night it's a combination of both. It was packed and the music was extremely loud. We had to wait for a table and everyone was really dressed up - I guess I didn't get the Memo. The food and drinks were really good and the staff were working hard to keep up with the overwhelming amount of people. I read that Lagos has great food and drinks and they did not disappoint. Lagos decor was exquisite and on point. It was great admiring the display of artifacts on the walls. It was also a great place to people watch. The restaurant was a nice party vibe and everyone was having a great time even the staff. Of course the gratuities were included in your check and I wasn't surprise.

The ambience was really pleasant great lighting and a comfortable vibe that makes it a good place to relax and enjoy a meal. I only ordered a starter this time: goat meat pepper soup. I originally wanted the catfish pepper soup, but they were out of it. The goat meat pepper soup had great flavor, but it was very spicy so spicy it felt like my tongue was about to fall off! If you enjoy a lot of heat, you'll probably love it. The service was good, and my drink was nice as well. Even though the pepper soup packed a serious punch, I still enjoyed the overall atmosphere and experience. Looking forward to coming back and trying more items on the menu.

The setup inside this dimly lit restaurant had a bunch of steam tables offering various beef and chicken dishes, a handful of rice options, and a bunch of salads/fruits. Having no idea what we were looking at, we asked the friendly owner for some advice. After some contemplation, two of us made a plate with all beef over some jollof rice, and another with basically all chicken items over a different type of flavorful rice. We knew it was too much, but our goal was to figure out what we would come back for. Honestly, I did not enjoy most of the chicken because it's sitting in steam trays getting overcooked. Not saying they were terrible, but it all fails in comparison to all the great beef offerings. OMG! You really can't go wrong with any of the beef dishes. My cuisine rating is really based on the various beef items, the yummy veggies, and both amazing rice. The current price is $10.99 per pound regardless what you fill your box with, except a couple of items. We filled our two boxes with about 4lbs of food. Obviously too much, but we got to try many things. No doubt I will be back asap for round two.

We arrived a little bit early and were told that they're wrapping some tables up. There's a 2 hour seating limit, so it seems like they do follow that pretty closely. We were seated pretty promptly with the menus laid out before us. The menu is organized in a way where the portion of the food gets bigger as you go down the list. We had 4 small shares, 2 large shares and 1 dessert for our party of 2: CRISPY OKRA: Be wary of the spice! They serve it with a cucumber-yogurt based sauce to balance out the heat. The okra was indeed fried til they're crispy and there was no longer the slimy aspect of the okra. Would recommend this, even if you think you don't like okra. CURRIED GOAT PATTIES: If you've had Chef Kwame's patties at CitiField, it's even better! The curried goat is heavily seasoned (might actually be a bit salty on its own), but balanced out with the mango chutney and crema. The crust is incredibly buttery and flaky -- one of the best patty crusts I've had. EGUSI TORTELLINI: A bit salty if you were to consume the components separately. I realized that the tortellini was better if you one bite it, rather than cutting into it. They gave a generous serving of Dungeness crab and the tomato based sauce was divine! I do wish there was a little more filling in it, because I couldn't tell you if I actually tasted much of the egusi. WINGS (SPECIAL OF THE DAY): Sticky, smoky, meaty, and everything you look for in a good wing. The wings are brined and smoked for two days and you could absolutely tell in it flavors. They were served with a mayo-based sauce that I didn't really think it needed, because the wing spoke for itself! BRAISED OXTAIL: I wasn't expecting the portions to be big, but I was surprised to be served 4 big pieces of oxtail. We ended up taking the leftovers home, which tasted even better the following day. The oxtail was tender and fell off the bone. I'm usually not a fan of carrots, but the carrots and chayote squash picked up the aromatics from the braising while still maintaining its crunchy texture. I'm thoroughly impressed when an establishment can get me to eat carrots LOL. The highlight of this dish was surprisingly the rice and beans. Believe me when I tell you how fluffy they were! MAMA DUKE'S SHRIMP: Three fat shrimps served with 4 slices of their Texas toast -- my absolute favorite of the night! The shrimps were juicy and cooked perfectly. Took me about 4 bites to really finish the shrimp. The sauce was rich and soaked up quite nicely with the fluffy Texas toast, which is very similar to a thick milk bread. THE BODEGA SPECIAL: Do not skip out on the dessert here, because this is the star of the show. The Bodega Special is their rendition of a cosmic brownie and powdered donut. This was a much more elevated experience of a nostalgic dessert. The ice cream was light and carried a similar texture to a powdered donuts, while the cosmic brownie was rich and decadent -- solid on its own, but even better together! Our experience here was wonderful, from the service to food. Our server made sure to explain everything thoroughly and the staff tended to us with a lot of care. This was an elevated experience that reflected the soul of the kitchen in its food. Also, fire playlist LOL the music selection was superb. I totally get the hype!

I appreciated that they had sports on large screens. We came here with no reservation but had no issue being seated. Our servers were quick and attentive. I ordered the Jollof rice with beef and my friend got the red stew. Unfortunately we both had mixed feelings about our meal. For starters, my Jollof rice was great however I thought the beef would be mixed in. It was spicy with it getting spicier with each bite. Regardless it was very expensive for the little bit of rice you get. You have to order one of additional sides to make it worth it. Unfortunately that just drives the price up. The beef was good and tender but nothing special. There wasn't anything unique about it that stood out to me. Similarly my friend was also got the same beef dish and felt the same. Speaking of, she got the Red Stew and was underwhelmed. It felt more like a spicy sauce than a stew. You could eat it with a fork. She also wasn't much of a fan of the rice but admitted she had a personal preference for sticky rice. The beef was also outside of the "stew". In the end, we both enjoyed our meals and had leftovers to take home. The food for all of my complaints was good. Even she thought so but just wasn't special. Made me instead want to bring her to a different African restaurant in the future. I would this place is great as a lounge with solid food. Given that it specializes in West African food is a good bonus. Makes it very unique and worth checking out. Though I suspect that they're better options in the city for that. Would we go again, probably not.
