The place was very clean, napkins and everything you need is at the table. Complimentary beans hot and fresh and they have a little spice to it, I like to add it to whatever I'm eating. The people working there were so nice and kind to me and my boyfriend it was my first time being there and they told me how things are prepared. We got two brisket potatoes, two brisket sandwiches. This will scratch your bbq itch if that's what you are looking for. The food is traditional bbq, nothing fancy. I usually like my bbq on the drier side but I felt this was a little drier than I wanted. Service was great. Everybody is very friendly especially the older gentleman in the cowboy hat! Probably should add fries to the menu... wasn't super impressed by the plastic and styrofoam everything. Ordered a chopped brisket sandwich, either the bun was soo big for the amount of meat that was given or they didn't give me enough meat to fill the bun. The meat was pretty much cold. So I ate a cold sandwich. I'm used to other bbq places providing pickles and onions with the sandwiches. The sauce wasn't memorable, the staff was rude and sitting down for the most part joking around... The free beans should stay free Bc they aren't worth much. Needs a kick of something... just like the sauce. The worse part about the meal was the banana pudding... it literally had 2 cookies and literally NO bananas... I'm sorry but if your going to only offer once size and charge over $3 I suggest you put the bulk of the key ingredients in the serving... Bc it was just a giant serving of pudding that cost 50 cents at the store. No impressed won't be returning recommend they add more seasoning and ingredients to their menu. read more

Unfriendly cashier when we first walked in. When asking about the sides she did nothing but point to a sign, and did not explain any specials I'm the menu. Food was not that great. Are you a serious carnivore? How about omnivore? If you answered yes to both of those questions then Ol West is the place for you! Their meat is smoked and out of the 5 times I have ate here, it is consistent. I love sauce but I would consider eating their meat without sauce if I didn't love sauce so much! Their sauce is very good too. It is a tangy sauce that is a mix between vinegar and tomato base. Their hot BBQ sauce is the same but with cayenne pepper added. The best side is the potato salad. It's real creamy and sweet with just enough mustard not to overpower the taste. The Cole slaw is too crunchy for my taste because I like Cole slaw real creamy but decent. Their beans have grown on me. They are more like pinto beans instead of baked beans and I doctor them up with some BBQ sauce and tabasco. If you eat in, you can eat as many beans as you like. When you come in, you order at the counter and the place feels like an Old West kind of place after it's name. In summary, the sides are pretty good but you don't go to a BBQ place for the sides. This is absolutely my favorite bbq in the NWLA region. The Ol' Tater (baked potato with butter, cheese, sour cream, and choice of meat) is my third favorite. Second favorite is Chopped Beef Sandwich plate with an ear of corn and serving of potato salad. They have The Best potato salad hands-down. My all time favorite though...is their ribs!! Pork Ribs done right with their dry rub. The meat falls right off the bone. I've even gotten my chopped beef sandwich plate with two ribs on the side! It always tastes fresh. One of my favorite places in the whole area. Really really good BBQ. The smoke sausage is great. The pulled pork is really good. The brisket will curl your toe nails but the chicken is better than all of the them. I almost always get a three meat platter. All of the meats are offered in sandwich form and they will also curl your toe nails. I'm not that into the sides though. They taste kinda commercial but the pinto bean soup is great. The STAR of the menu though is the sloppy joe. A little hidden gem on the sandwich menu they are the best sloppy joes I have ever eaten in my entire life and in top three favorite sandwiches ever. Made a quick stop here on our way to La Tech. We each had to 2 meat plate which was a great choice! The ribs are the short pork type which were very moist & tender. I also had the sausage which wasn't the spicy type I prefer but it was still tasty. Potato salad was some on the best I've had, including my own mothers but not even close to grandmaws! I was surprised the pinto beans are complimentary, (which were awesome good on the spicy side) and corn on the cob. I especially loved the bbq sauce - it was different in the way of not having that vinegary after taste. My friend had the turkey which he said was nice and smoky flavored. So yeah, Ol West passed this Texans bbq taste buds test! Oh, and service is order at the counter type, but the friendly staff will bring your order right to your table when ready (which won't take long)! Best BBQ this side of anywhere!! The chopped brisket sandwich on hot, buttered Texas toast is always fresh and delicious. The Bbq sauce is perfect too, can't get enough of it! This place is for bbq lovers. I got the 2 meat dinner with ribs and brisket, corn on the cob and coleslaw. The meats were tender and smokey, the ribs were meaty and fell off the bone. The sauce is great, not too rich and a just the right amount of tangy. Nothing fancy, order at the counter and it comes on foam plates, but is very clean and low key. One of minden's best restaurants. Inside is always very clean even at busy times. The owner actually cares enough to talk to the customers and make sure they are happy with everything.
