Stopped by Ballater while driving around Cairngorms National Park. There was only one restaurant listed on Yelp for the town, which was Michelin listed. We stopped by this little place for lunch, because it has a falafel salad on the menu. Having had so many fish and chips and sandwiches for lunch, I craved something different. The salad came with 4 little warm falafel balls and something resembled watered down ketchup as dressing. I asked for yogurt and mint sauce and they brought over promptly, which drastically improved the experience. Hubby had the Texas BBQ pulled pork panini, came with a little salad and a slaw. There ain't enough meant in the panini by American standard, but is was quite the European norm. The pulled pork was too sweet for our taste. The slaw was barely edible: too oniony. We saw a Cranachan Raspberry Cake on display and couldn't help having a piece. The icing had too much sugar in it and the top layer of the cake has no raspberry. Well, they tried and we appreciate the effort! read more
