I've grown to quite like the Ralia cafe as a pit-stop on the way up the A9 to Inverness. They do really nice home-made sandwiches and cakes, have free Wi-Fi and phone charging points, and there's always a newspaper or 3 to read and pass the time while you browse your emails or whatever. Their coffee isn't that great, but if you ask for an extra shot, it is certainly tolerable. There's a wee gift shop outside, toilets underneath, and plenty of space to walk your pooch or sit out and have a picnic if the weather is favourable. Check it out- it's a nice respite from the monotony of driving behind an HGV for miles on end.
Great pick me up on our never ending drive from Edinburgh to Inverness, stumbled upon it in need of a caffeine jolt and water closet. Friendly staff and cute space with ample parking. Our matcha and chai were perfect temperature and served quickly read more

First, the food. The carrot soup was 8/10, it was a nice middle ground between chunky and smooth. It went a bit better with the bread though. The bread was amazing, I don't know if it's home made. It was fluffy filling and it just looked nice. It went even better dipped in the soup. The minestrone soup was a really good light alternative, despite its more chunky texture. And it's even better with bread, as before. The tea was just tea, no more, no less. The late was the same, nor too, nor bad. The chamomile tea was delightful. It was very nice, and the taste couldn't have been better. The service was amazing. It was fast to the point, but not without friendly conversation. When we were ordering, the person that took our orders asked what book I was reading (it was in my hands), which I appreciated a lot. The ambiance was minimal. The had big windows to look out of and nice tables and chairs outside. That was really it for ambiance. read more
This was supposed to be a quick stop, but turned into a long break to get a bite to eat, use the toilets and stretch our legs. There were enough employees in the cafe that when our group entered, everything ran smoothly and quickly. It seemed like everyone was ordering millionaires shortbread and thankfully, they had enough of this delicious biscuit for everyone. Coffee and sandwiches, which seemed freshly made, were good too. We sat outside as it was a beautiful day. The toilets were clean and there's plenty of green space to stretch your legs and walk around. This was such a nice place to stop. We hope to come by again. read more

Imagine you're on a dream vacation to visit somewhere you've always wanted to go...Scotland. You rent your car, surprise yourself by how well you can drive on the "wrong" side of the road, and set out into the Highlands, by the lochs, and ready to enjoy your B&B. But you have...the Australian flu, compliments of a bug you caught in Ireland before your arrival in Scotland. All your plans to hike and seek our Nessie are out the window because you're so sick. Instead, you drive and enjoy the scenery, making notes for the next time you come and feel better. You haven't eaten, you're fevered, and want to curl up and cry...but the countryside calls and you keep on...driving and pressing on through the Highlands and down into Edinburgh. You pray...I just need some hot tea, chicken soup, and some bread. And then...you see a sign for Ralia Cafe. An oasis on the highway that beckoned us immediately. We pulled off, parked, and went in, curious as to what this charming cafe would offer. They offered everything we needed: delicious, fresh, homemade chicken soup, freshly baked bread, cold butter, and a hot pot of English breakfast tea. This was the most delicious, comforting, and healing meal ever. The staff was wonderful, friendly, and not only brought us our food, but insisted we not clean up and they'd get it. The cafe was surrounded by beautiful mountain views and we enjoyed sitting and relaxing while we ate. So, even if you're not hit with a nasty flu bug, stop in at this lovely cafe with ample parking, clean bathrooms, and comforting food. Thanks! read more

This is always a welcome stop when driving up the A9. The cafe isn't large, but in a unique building. There is a full range of "proper" coffee and hot beverages available, a small selection of cakes and ice cream (if you fancy a treat). Fare is of good quality, putting many roadside cafe/services to shame. There is free wifi for customers, and PC's offering surfing for a charge. Mobile phones can be charged for free while you enjoy your refreshment. Staff are very friendly and were extremely tolerant of my rather high spirited young children. The toilet facilities were clean, but a little bit chilly, and are even open when the cafe is closed (to much relief when stopping here late at night). If you are in this area and need a rest stop, I highly recommend stopping here. read more

What a surprise find this cafe was! I just happened to need a restroom and decided to check out the cafe, glad I did! I chose a pre-made sandwich which was fresh and delicious! I also grabbed a lemon muffin and peppermint tea, both fine. What a wonderful little spot out of nowhere. They were busy, which is a great sign! read more
