Compared to 8 other county jails in Oklahoma that I have been to, this one is of fair. It has a large volume of prisoners and not big enough of a budget. The intake process is long and drawn out. read more

HORRIBLE. I paid to have my husbands Canadian county hold lifted at 4:30 pm on a Friday. It is now Saturday 4 am (12 hours later) and he's NOT EVEN ON THE RELEASE LIST. Despite my numerous calls and Canadian county emailing and calling Oklahoma county asking for his release. Lazy fuckers. read more

I let them know ahead of time that I was on Effexor and needed to take it at a certain time each day or I can go through withdrawal. Later I told them again and that it's one of the most dangerous withdrawals you can go through and they last longer. Laid on the holding cell floor for hours sweating and freezing. They asked me for a urine sample and asked if I was suicidal, I said no and after another handful of hours laid out on the floor begging for help someone finally came for me only to take me to the suicidal pod. They make you get naked and put on what they call a turtle suit. It's a heavy green garment they make you wear and they won't even give you a cup. The next morning they literally threw their brown bag special of stale muffin cake or cornbread. She hit me with it so hard the bag busted open. The next day a doctor came to evaluate us and I even mentioned to him that I need my Effexor. We told him we were not suicidal and he crossed out our faces. So for 3 or 4 days I was so sick and ignored. Finally got up to a cell and had my first arraignment only to demand my med. I started to get the hang of things only to be attacked in my cell. A homeless tweaker that had already attacked someone else by kicking her in the face and biting on her.She tried to come at me earlier in the day but that evening she punched me in the side of the head and forehead about 5 or 6 times. I was able to get in a sitting position where she proceeded to punch me in the back of the head another 10 times. My forehead hit the floor, busted open and she gave me whiplash from pulling my hair back. Blood was everywhere and she wasn't going to stop till they came in. All they offered to do was take xrays that I never got the results from and not once did I hear an xray machine make a noise. I ended up in a single cell because I had a violation a few days prior but wouldn't tell me what that was about. My eye immediately started to swell and blacken. It was spreading instead of getting better. I've learned a few things in life and I knew it was blood pooling. It's an indication of head trauma and a possible TBI. I filled out a sick form because I was concerned with having headaches as well. I still have double vision. Nobody ever came to check on me. I was there almost a month and they couldn't even get my asthma meds right. I didn't mind the single cell because I was safe. Took them 4 days to put me in the striped outfit and still couldn't tell me about the first violation. They act like they are running a prison and we all have killed someone. I hope 90% of the staff does not get transferred to the new jail because in no time it will end up just like the old one. There was a guard that accidentally spilled a few trays and that food was on the floor for 4 days. Absolutely disgusting and they hire the most worthless people I have ever seen! read more

Way over-crowded and inmates are under-fed; probably understaffed. Lots of employees walking around empty-handed, talking about restaurants. I waited over an hour to pick up Property for a friend and was then told it might be Monday or Tuesday. read more

I should have reviewed this place a long, long time ago--so thank you, Yelp, for having this listing available for review. If you're looking for a clean, well staffed, smell-free short term place to stay, I would recommend avoiding the Oklahoma County Jail at all costs. If you're used to basic amenities like pillows, sheets, and even mattresses--you're not likely to find them here. Instead, you'll get a rusty metal slab attached to a latex paint covered brick wall or a plastic cot. You might be one of the lucky ones that gets a pillow or even a blanket, but an unexpected midnight contraband raid will result in your bedding being ripped away, cut open, and discarded by jail guards--leaving you with nothing but the wide selection of floor, cot, or metal bunk to choose from for your slumbering needs. While meals are provided, BEWARE, the morning oatmeal will occasionally have weevils and often the lunch offering of one slice of bologna and white bread often contains mold. If you're in for a longer stay, I'd recommend doing whatever you can to score some ramen noodles instead. If the lodging and meals don't have you completely sold on a brief stint at the county jail, maybe the staff will! If you like being degraded, yelled at, assaulted, and your requests for formal complaints to be ignored--these are the staff for you. If you like being strip searched in front of complete strangers that laugh at or make obscene comments abut your body, this also might be the place for you. If by some unfortunate circumstance you are stuck visiting Oklahoma County Jail, be a friend to the fellow guests. Some are excellent at poetry, toilet fishing (honestly not as bad as it sounds), and have amazing stories to share. Remember, they don't want to be there either, and a little compassion goes a long way. read more
