Tonkotsu ramen

Getting there - It's tucked in an open plaza area. Plenty of parking spots. You order first, pay, then sit down. Food - made to order and tasty. Ordered the tonkotsu ramen and sides/appetizer (fried chicken and the fried sweet potato). The seasoned egg in the ramen was SO bomb - I wish I ordered more! Also they have a lot of different teas and boba. I got the regular milk tea with boba, which was good. Service - Cashier was friendly and patient with us. There isn't a waiter, so you are free to sit wherever you'd like. Ambiance - Open, bright and chill. Good for college students or if you're in the area. Overall, this is a decent ramen spot for the MidWest. Coming from Cali, I used to get ramen all the time from Sawtelle/Little Tokyo in LA so I miss ramen. While it's not too authentic, the ramen and boba here will hit the spot. PROS: lots of boba, close to Notre Dame campus, accept Google/Apple Pay CONS: wished they had more ramen options (Shoyu, Tsukemen, Kitakata),

Spicy Miso Ramen

We are new to the area and ordered Okasan for takeout. We each ordered the spicy miso ramen, and it was incredibly spicy. Both my husband and I like spice, but it was almost too spicy to enjoy. Our noses were running and eyes watering. The noodles were also soggy. The egg was delicious and flavorful, I'm glad I ordered an extra one. I did like the corn in the ramen. We also got a side salad that wasn't anything special, just a basic salad. It was prepared and ready quickly. I would rate this a 2.5-3 out of 5. I'm not sure the ambiance or vibes of the restaurant, since we got takeout, but I probably won't be back unless I'm really craving ramen and need something to do the trick.

I had the ramen here yesterday. The broth was rich but a bit greasy. Noodles were okay, but the pork was chewy. The egg was overcooked again. Service was fast, but the place was crowded. Not sure if I'll return.

The ramen was alright, but nothing to write home about. The broth was flavorful but too salty. Noodles were cooked perfectly. The toppings were fresh but lacked variety. Overall, it was a decent meal.

I am thrilled to see Okasan Ramen finally opened up. There are a few sushi places around town, but ramen is totally lacking its presence in the area. This place is very bright and open. I love their own cartoon art surrounded the space. Other than ramen, there are other option like udon and curry rice. In additional, they also added in a few Taiwanese snacks and of course bubble tea. My favorite would be the Tonkotsu Ramen and the Chicken Cutlet. The broth for the ramen looks thin, but the flavor is there. The Chicken Cutlet is huge. The breading is super crispy and as you bite into it, the chicken is super moist and juicy. I would say this is a must have.

I have been waiting for this place to open for well over a year, since before COVID and everything so I was so excited to finally try it. I only got tonkatsu ramen and gyoza. The gyoza seemed more like the kind that come out of a bag from Fruit Mountain although I don't want to assume. The younger girl working was really sweet from what interaction I had with her. It's not really a sit down place; you order at a counter and you seat yourself. They have bubble tea but I wasn't too impressed. I'd love to see more flavors for those. The ramen itself was good but not great, if that makes sense. I'll absolutely be back to try other items, though. I'm just happy we have this place in South Bend now.

Food tasted disgusting. Edamame was warm and cold at the same time. I got the vegan miso soup and the bamboo tasted like poop. My fiance got the Korean fried chicken and said it was old, rubbery, and half cooked. Would not recommend this place AT ALL.

We went to Okasan this weekend. They did a nice job of remodeling the old asian grocery store space. I had the Yaki soba w chicken. Honest truth. They served me regular ramen noodles as soba, but it was great. Fried noodles, vegetables and chicken with a Teriyaki style sauce...it was delicious and well prepared We had the spring roll appetizer... possibly the best fried springrolls ive ever had My wife had the tonkatsu ramen....it was mediocre. The broth was weak and haf no depth, and the ham on the top was dry and leathery. I would return for the fake yaki soba....the ramen is a 4/10 at best.

With Okasan translating to someone else's mother it set the bar high for what to expect. Im happy to share that it met the expectation that I had set for them. The only drawback that I had with Okasan was the limited options of spicy food available and add ons. Food will be listed below with rating and at the bottom will full in-depth review. * Pork Chashu Bun - 4/5 * Chicken Katsu Bun - 4/5 * Tonkotsu Ramen - 4/5 The Pork Chashu had a very soft and tender bun while the pork was crispy and all cooked. It had the flavor of almost Carnitas it was paired with some lettuce and small sauce. Chicken Katsu was like eating a Japanese Chicken Sandwich it was also paired with lettuce and some mayo. The Tonkotsu Ramen was the highlight of the meal two pieces of pork an egg with a piece of seaweed for decoration. The presentation was well done and made the meal look inviting. Those that like some spice they don't have a Spicy Ramen but can sell you some chili paste. Overall I was very pleased with what Okasan had to offer. The only things that I wish it had is a Spicy Ramen with larger potion available. Would definitely be back and is a contender in the area if you are in the mood for some Ramen.

i stumbled upon this place searching "ramen near me" one day and when i tell u it did not disappoint. it's a cute and small place the girl in the front informed us very well on the menu, i ended up getting the spicy miso one and cut the spice in half. we had a yaki soba to start off with as well and it's equally amazing. great food, great service, will definitely be coming back!

Every college town needs a good ramen spot, and this seems to be the one for Notre Dame. The tantan broth is great.

Big space but we were in the front. Seems like it was an old Mexican Restaurant. We got seated right away. They had to clean off the table. We had to ask them to wipe it down because they did not. I didn't want food to come on a dirty table. Server was nice and answered questions on the menu. We ordered. I got the creamy soup appetizer and the nom nom cold noodles with goza. Both were great and delicious. The soup was hot and had lots of goza and veggies. The noodle bowl also had lots of fresh veggies and crispy. The dressing is a vinegary mix that cuts thru the fresh veggies. It pairs perfectly. The portion is a good size. I was stuffed and could not finish. I really wanted to though. If you are vegan this is a good spot for you. Lots of choices. Prices were pretty good and you got a good amount of food. The only issue was the not clean table we had to ask to get cleaned. And they did that. Oh and the bathroom was kinda messy too. So take that as you wish. But not a bad find.

The inside of the new restaurant is much bigger, but you have to wait quite a while to be served and for your food. There are a lot of windows so the inside is a little chilly in the winter. We have tried to order takeout on occasion and each time something has gone wrong or something was missing. The pad Thai had no sauce or flavor on it whatsoever. They also don't serve as big of portions anymore and took away the large size bowls. I'm not sure what happened between the restaurant moving locations, but I hope it can get back on track. This used to be our favorite place.

Unfortunately we were completely ignored at our table. Several other two-tops got seated and the large party and they were all attended and even got their drinks before anyone greeted us or got our drink order. Eventually we moved tables to something more in the center of the dining room and still no one came to us. It wasn't until I flagged down a group of servers and food runners chit chatting by the corridor to the bathroom that someone finally came to our table. It's a shame the service sucked because the food was delicious. I loved my plum wine and spicy creamy V ramen. I added some extra veggie toppings which I think gets ridiculously pricey considering the ramen is already priced kind of high. My boyfriend had the chicken wings and white rice. He seemed to have enjoyed it. The following time I ordered delivery to avoid the spotty service we received last time. The packaging was great and it arrived early and was nice and hot. The V red fire opal ramen was DELICIOUS. And I'm absolutely obsessed with the matcha tiramisu. Delectable. I still want to try the Flying V harvest ramen. I appreciate they have several vegetarian options, considering the majority of the menu contains pork. Perhaps the next time I dine in and the service is improved they'll get that 5th star.

I failed to write a review of my dinner here last year but I enjoyed my sushi, I remember that! This year, my dinner was only so-so. Both years, however, the service wasn't great. So half of this large space is brightly lit while the other half is way too dark. Last year, our pictures were all bad since we sat in the dark half. This year, we sat in the well lit space and now I have okay pictures sort of haha. It was decorated for Christmas with lights and small decorations. This year, I ordered the tuna poke bowl ($24) which comes with a ginger salad and miso soup, as well as a rose tea ($5). The rose tea was very diluted. I was disappointed. Our absent waitress failed to stop by anytime within the first 20 minutes, so I had to flag down another server to replace the tea with something better, the lychee black tea which I did enjoy, although it contained caffeine, which I was trying to avoid. My boyfriend got two sushi rolls and was still hungry after he finished his rolls. Fortunately, another person didn't have an appetite that night and shared his food. It is still odd that $20 of sushi wasn't filling. In my opinion, the food is good but overpriced. They have a very good drink list with expensive wines to cheap teas. As many others have mentioned, the service was basic and not so attentive nor frequent, especially when I was desperate for new tea. Here's hoping for a better experience at our next holiday meal here!
