Oishii's food is consistently good. They have a wide variety of menu items- sushi is amazing. Probably the best you can find in Minot. The only thing holding back my 5 stars is the service is a hit or miss. I have always received good food here. The service is pretty quick and the cost is fair. The location is a bit unusual but they have done what they can to make it attractive. The decor is typical and the mood is a bit too dark especially for the lunch crowd. Great sushi menu and options, some of the best selection in town. Finally someplace in Minot to get something with some spice and heat. From the outside it comes off a bit unappealing but once inside it's warm, comfortable, and clean. Not too noisy and the wood adds to the atmosphere. My waitress could have been a bit more helpful, seemed distracted, not very attentive. She got my drink order wrong twice. The ramen was great, good flavor and finally some heat even at the medium level. The pot stickers were average at best. I will hold off on a true opinion after I come back. The food has never been horrible and service has always been quick and good for me when going in to eat but delivery was very disappointing. I ordered 1/2 lb green mussels and payed EXTRA for shrimp. I ordered the ramen bowl with the crawfish boil. The ramen was very delicious and packed with flavor; however, the crawfish boil was rather average. I would have liked more seasoning on the crawfish themselves. The service was okay; we were seated in the back and didn't receive much attention from the staff. Friendly, prompt service with a quaint atmosphere that mimics a Japanese style dojo. This restaurant stands in stark contrast from its previous occupant, The Hibachi Grill, in all aspects. The food is terrific! With all humility in an attempt to not seem too pretentious, I've had ramen in Japan a time or two and this place does a great job paralleling those experiences. My only issue or minor complaint is that for a family of four for ramen we paid close to $70. To me this is not a deal breaker, just something I think needs to be put out there. All that said, it's all good and we'll-prepared. They do a great job from the presentation of their establishment to the presentation of their food. Delicious! My father and I went here for lunch around 11:05 AM, they had just opened so service was fast and attentive. I got the crunchy dragon roll and he got the yellow dragon roll, we each also got a bowl of ramen. The sushi was the best I've had in Minot since Thai Hot downtown closed. The restaurant is very calm and clean, the workers are very friendly and make sure you are taken care of. The ramen does come in large bowls so I was unable to finish mine, but they do have take home containers. read more

It was fairly cold and chilly, so I told my partner I wanted ramen. I was rather apprehensive due to being from Vegas, where the ramen culture here is taken seriously and we have some really good ramen joints. Nevertheless, we stopped by Oishii. It was fairly empty, and we were seated quickly. We both decided to share some hot sake and boy, it was so warm and fuzzy! As for the ramen, we both opted for the "build your own" option. I got the Tonkotsu broth and it was very hot and delicious! We then ordered a mochi dessert to share, and it was the perfect way to end the meal. Nonetheless, I was pleasantly surprised and fulfilled. On another day, we ordered their fried rice and boy were we obsessed! Some of the best fried rice I've ever had, with plenty of meat. My Ramen: Broth was supposed to be chicken, tasted like fish boiled in seawater. Chicken was overcooked and dry and smelled like old fish. Even the egg was overcooked, grey and tasted like nothing but soy sauce. The noodles were OK, but pretty much the same quality you can buy for 20 cents or less. For a $14 bowl of ramen with toppings I expect better than $2 microwave quality. Her Ramen: Broth was supposed to be pork, tasted mostly like soy sauce, egg was shriveled and gray like it had been boiling in soy sauce for hours. Pork belly was OK and had some flavor but was also half the amount shown in pictures, only 2 small deli slices and not the 3 large ones that were shown on the menu. Medium spicy? Was barely mild and is just a dash of pepper flakes on top before it's served to you, nothing cooked into the dish to actually develop flavors. Ramen and toppings are all obviously premade and just sitting being kept warm for service and then assembled when ordered, nothing was served hot just warm. So when someone praises this for fast service: it's because none of it is fresh. They also think nothing of serving the ramen before the appetizers. We also tried a few of the various appetizers, none of them were impressive. The dumplings are obviously frozen and were reheated in dirty oil served with only soy sauce for dipping. The crab rangoon was burnt on top and mushy on the bottom, like it had been overcooked and then left to sit too long, also an incorrect filling ratio with very little inside. The sweet and sour dipping sauce it was served with was oily like it had been blended with something flavorless to save money and stretch it, and it was mostly tasteless. Tempura shrimp were about the only thing done correctly and somewhat fresh, but then served with a disappointing and flavorless orange dipping sauce that just tasted like mayonnaise mixed with a touch of catsup for color. Dinner for 2 people at $30 for two bowls of ramen or nearly $50 with appetizers is very disappointing at these prices. If you want to eat frozen reheated food and cheap ramen noodles you can do that at home for a fraction of the price. Even the people praising this for the decor and atmosphere, really? It's literally the same pictures on the wall as when it was Hibachi Grill, the same booths, the same chairs, the same tables, all they did was add some additional wooden walls to separate what was one big room into smaller rooms. It's a minimal remodel of the space with the exact same decorations that were always there. I suppose if you are highly impressed that the horse painting was moved from the back of the room to the front then you will be delighted with these changes. At least Hibachi had better food, better prices and far more variety. Minot in general isn't well known for Asian food, but there's better than this available. read more
