This Office Max is a great place to have included in this row of big box retailers. It's no comparison with Kohl's, but there is definitely a thing or two you could price shop against Target. They have a huge wall of pens, though literally only one fountain pen - a calligraphy set. They seem to have also reduced their notebook selection. In general, you can find your home office basics here and I think that's how they've weathered this storm. Probably the biggest money makers for them are printing and shipping. There's a decent selection of office furniture and desk organization stuff. Plenty of computer accessories: mice, keyboards, thumb drives, etc. Even printers and tons of paper options so you can do all of it at home on your own if you like. Prices can be high for some items and lower on others. As with most retailers lately, it seems the brick and mortar prices don't always match to the ones online. So price shop, whether to compare to Target next door or even to Office Max itself online. read more

Walked into the Office Max in Akron ( Montrose ) to have a bunch of items printed for my wedding. A girl behind the printing desk area was cleaning and looked at me and said "be with you in just a second ". I waited for over 5 minutes while she continued to clean in front of me !! I got so frustrated I left. Since when does cleaning take priority over a paying customer??! That is horrible service - I ended up a staples where they gave me excellent service and got everything I needed. Staples will get my business going forward. read more

Went in ready to spend quite a bit of money of supplies for our new company.....it's a beautiful and breezy 73 degree day.....went inside and it was near 90 degrees in there....the poor employees are working like any other day, but sweating perfusly......not a single other customer was in there. Spent less than 2 minutes and had to leave because of how hot it was. I wish I could give their corporate a terrible review but give their employees a great one.....for being able to work in these conditions. This has to be a health issue and corporate should be fined for maing their employees work in this store. Very sad. read more

I'm always up for a good OfficeMax visit, however, I do have to say something to the warranties pretty much forced upon the customer. I purchased a new laptop here in December, and got a good deal on it. I picked out the exact computer/specs and all that I wanted in probably less than 10 minutes. Went to the checkout counter. Explained that I could get a warranty/insurance plan thru my business. Was told again I should consider buying their plan. Declined again, asked to think about bringing my old laptop in for transfer of information whenn I could do it for free. Declined, offered again to buy the warranty, and declined once more. Still purchased the laptop, but didn't get the insurance/warranty policy. My suggestion to this location would be to accept a NO as a NO. I worked in customer support/IT and if someone doesn't want something, they don't want it. I don't personally hold anything against the company, because they've been nice in EVERY other regard. As a side note, I come here often to ship my packages for FedEX from my business. The shipping staff is always accommodating, very friendly, and always willing to meet my needs. I'm impressed with this location, and will continue to go to this store. read more
