Hadn't been here since college in the late 90's and took a walk through here for old-time's sake…read more Wow. This is truly a zombie mall. Way more vacant storefronts than actual stores. A handful of mall-walkers and VERY FEW actual shoppers. This place is hanging on by a thread. Ghostly.

Hardly any stores are open anymore and forget about the food court. I went into Ulta Beauty and…read morewhen checking out the woman asked for an email and phone number, I gave a fake one and she demanded I give my real information! I keep getting spam emails from Ulta Beauty even though I don't care for their products, the only thing I bought was a tiny tube of skin cream (which was $13 by the way). The arcade does not work at all, you can't get tokens or play most of the machines, and some of the claw machines they have in there are notoriously rigged. I was looking forward to getting an acupuncture treatment but I go in and see there's no needles, only hands being used, so I skipped out on that one. Some of the men's urban fashion stores looked interesting but I wandered in a store and saw the price tags on the jeans and recoiled, it's supposed to look like hoodrat clothing why does it cost $200+????? However, there was no one manning the front desk or looking over the store, so I was able to leave inconspicuously. I wish I could have gone to Von Maur, because I like some old lady clothes, but it was closed for Christmas Eve, which is understandable.

My husband and I had read an adulatory article about the store and the many thousands of books…read morethere, so we traveled up from St. Louis to take a look. The thousands of books were there, all right, but in a building that smells overwhelmingly of mold. I don't know whether it's from a roof leak or a flood, or whether they have just bought a lot of smelly books, but my husband and I both stank of mold even after we left, and I was coughing. I didn't find much of a selection of unusual or uncommon books to tempt me, and the layout of the place is very strange. I couldn't find mystery books for over ten minutes. They were hidden away in a corner, and given far less prominence than romance or inspirational books. Even if I found out that the mold problem had been solved, it's not likely we would return.

Don't let any negative reviews steer you away from this place, it's great!!! I was in-town…read moreovernight, and specifically looking for guitar tablature books. While they didn't have much, I did find their music section, and got a great book on the old ACE Records label. However, the best part of the experience was Lori, the owner (I believe). She was SO HELPFUL!!! I asked about her usual stock, and she was totally willing to have an in-depth conversation with me about various subjects. Also, when I went to check out, and told her that I was in town for a concert, she reached into a drawer, and pulled out an information sheet recommending restaurants for dinner, breakfast and coffee places. She even gave me some of her own, and some advice on where else to look for good used books!! Other than the concert itself, it was the highlight of my trip there. Thank you Lori!!!

Sam's club needs to listen to customers' complaints regarding their choice of shipping companies…read more Fedex is the worst shipping company in the US. Their carriers don't deliver to the correct address, and when they do the package is often damaged. Complaints directed to Fedex go without any kind of QC/QA, bc they're a multi-billion dollar company & 'to hell with the customers'. Replacement product is often also delivered in the same manner. I've cancelled my club membership mainly bc Sam's doesn't give me a choice in shipping service, even though I'm paying for it. Too bad, bc I really like some of their Member's Mark products, but I don't have a club within a reasonable driving distance, and the cost of membership wouldn't be cost effective.

I originally rated this Decatur store higher primarily because of the gas station and the…read morecompetition it brought to the monopolistic price fixing stations of the area. Nearly every other experience with Sams Club has been majorly disappointing however. The store itself seems to be poorly managed. The food court is an absolute joke, a couple of stale slices of plain pizza and weak hot dogs, when you can find it actually staffed and open during club hours. Nearly every time you check out there you have a line of full carts and a single friendly, but way over burdened receipt checker holding you hostage from exiting until she can verify your receipt and items you may be stealing. Costco also has the obligatory receipt screening but they manage the lines and service the customers. This is something this Decatur store refuses to do consistently. The goofy Sams Club tries to up-sell you to a premium member ship for the pleasure of being queued up like cattle waiting to be scrutinized. The checkout up-sells you EVERY DAMN TIME. WONT TAKE NO THANK YOU FOR AN ANSWER. The store is absent a pharmacy and every other Sams Club offering. The meat cases are nearly empty every day. You can't find USDA Prime beef there, they offer "Members Prime" instead seemingly trying to fool you into thinking you are getting better for your money when you are not. This seems downright deceptive to me. Costco puts this place to absolute shame and even though the closest one is 45 miles away, I maintain my membership there where you get real USDA Prime beef for the drive and all the other wonderful deals Kirkland brand negotiates for its Costco members. No more Sams for me. I cant justify two memberships and I like Costco even though its a drive once a month. Sams actually annoys me. So it goes by-by.
