Very good BBQ. We really enjoyed the two sandwiches we orders. The side of beans was also very good.

We are kind of eating our way through all the BBQ Kansas City offers, and this one would rate towards the top so far! Started catering and food trucking, and now has a brick and mortar. Nice one, too! The Q is legit, and the service may be the friendliest in town. Wardell (owner) is friendly, and obviously knows food. They were out of burnt ends and ribs when we got there, so will be back for those. I had a smoked turkey melt that was terrific. Lots of places don't get turkey tasty and moist, but this is. Wife loved her chopped brisket sandwich, too. And don't sleep on the sides! GOOD potato salad, cheesy potatoes, and beans. As a former BBQ cook, I am pretty particular about my BBQ. I must say that Off the Hook ticked all of the boxes for me. Real Kansas City style BBQ from folks that know what they're doing! The service was friendly, fast and welcoming. And the atmosphere was like you're comfy neighborhood tavern. The ribs were absolutely PERFECT! Obviously trimmed well (less fat = less greasy), just lightly falling off the bone and seasoned to perfection. My wife had the Turkey melt, and it was delicious as well. Even the coleslaw was great. Prices were also very reasonable. You owe it to yourself to check out this new place in the Northland! We will definitely be back. Look out KC... there's a new BBQ Champ in town!! read more

Steadily going down hill, be it the neighborhood or something but the food has changed, most items advertised no longer available. Staff has become very rude and non welcoming. Doubt I will return and will advise others to stay away. read more

Incredibly delicious BBQ! We've been 3 times in 2 weeks! The service is fantastic! Friendly welcoming environment. Everyone is SO kind and helpful. I had the pulled pork sandwich w/ fries, and my husband had the wing meal w/ fries. Both were delicious. He said the meat of the wings had more flavor than wings from other restaurants. We enjoyed visiting with the owners while there. We will definitely return. read more

Not impressed . Price was way to high for amount of food you got. The quality didn't impress me. Tried it because we like to try new places.

Weird that this place already has reviews years ago when it just opened not too long ago. Today, is their first day with a full menu open. I would suggest going early ASAP to get what you want because they do go out fast if you're expecting to get something in the afternoon especially the evening time. I am glad to see they open second shop or moved here closer to where I live. I finally got to try their ribs and they are deliciously tender cooked well and come right off the bones. Their BBQ is good. They have regular and spicy. I love the spicy even though it was not spicy to me but just tasted better and got myself a bottle of it for home. Next day, tried their burnt ends and they are amazingly soft and melts in your mouth, bread is delicious. The place where is located a bit weird under apartment complex and parking is not that great especially for this business. I was not greeted as I came in a few times so not quite sure how most of these reviews saying they were greeted especially by the owner. However, service and staff are nice and friendly every time i visited. Father and son are friendly and make you feel right at home. Lady cash register and server lady are friendly and nice as well. I enjoyed the atmosphere from there quiet, spacious, and pleasant. Oh yeah, personally the side of cheesy potatoes are amazingly good. I prefer them over mac n cheese but thats just me. read more

We were traveling to my son and daughter in law's home in Kansas City and wanted to bring lunch along. My son had told me he likes their bbq, so we figured we'd order lunch. I had to order it on the drive and pick it up, and the person who took my order was fabulous! He was patient while I made decisions on what sides to get, and repeated my order back a couple of times to make sure it was correct. We only waited 5 minutes when we got to the restaurant and the food was hot. It is probably some of the best bbq we have had in Kansas City and we've tried quite a few! Staff was friendly, menu prices are about the same as any other bbq place. Out of sliced brisket, so did the burnt ends and sausage. Burnt ends were good, not much char to them, but good flavor. Sausage, meh. Reminded me of the stuff from the grocery store. Fries were cooked well. Wife had brisket fries, she enjoyed it. Sauces had good flavor. I tried this place first time around during Christmas at the River at their food truck and have been craving it every since. They do have limited hours Thur-Saturday, but if you catch them open, give them a try. I have now had the Brisket and Pulled Pork sandwich, both deliciously tasty, juicy and amazing. The sauce does come on the side and I can't say I blame them. Meat this good, shouldn't be hidden! Ha Apologies for no picture, I woofed my sandwich down so quickly, I forgot to take a picture. Tried Off the Hook for the first time today. Prompt and friendly service. Nice new and clean location. I had the Fries Nachos with Brisket, sooo good. My wife had the Brisket Grilled Cheese with beans. Good size sandwich with good portion of brisket(she couldn't finish it) and the beans were very good. There are only a couple of places in KC that I get beans and would order these again anytime. Would have been five stars, but the burnt ends weren't available when we got there for lunch and we were both craving burnt ends, hopefully next time. We were greeted as we came in with a smile. It was new and clean, sparkly even. We did notice that was a lack of smoky cooking smells that usually surrounds a bbq joint. We figured they must smoke their meat somewhere else. We gave our order our order and were told that though the online menu included two sides with the ribs it was wrong. We ordered a slab of ribs with beans and a pulled pork sandwich with beans, both to go. The ribs were a disappointment. If you like your ribs tender to the point of mushy with very little flavor of their own this is the place for you. The beans were on the sweet side so it was okay that the portion size was small. My partner reported the pulled pork sandwich was tasty. He appreciated the ingredients are presented separately and you build your own sandwich. There was actually enough meat to make a second sandwich later. The service was top notch. The owner, Wardell, was there and seems to be a hands on guy. Trying to support black own business, mind you we drove 25 mins just to be disappointed, we ordered 2 brisket sandwiches and bb other one fries that meat had so much fat on sandwich gave us 3 slices one of the slices was all fat we had to pick the meat on the other 2 slices, barely any fries the beans just ok. I arrived at the joint to have an employee tell me all they had were wings for lunch. I came for the ribs and burnt ends and promptly walked out. I don't know if the problem was the popularity of the joint (newly opened), a delivery issue, or something else. I will give it 6 months to a year and see if it improves. This established food truck and catering operation has a new storefront takeout-only location in Parkville. They offer a BBQ menu and daily specials. My brisket sandwich ($9) and a side of baked beans ($2) were served a couple of minutes after I ordered at the window, where the service was cheerful and friendly. The brisket sandwich had a generous portion of finely shredded, very moist beef on a fresh bun. It was pretty good, just different from what I expected. I did not notice that you must ask for BBQ sauce, which was kind of strange, so I did not receive any. The beans were very delicious, with a flavorful, somewhat tangy sauce and good chunks of meat mixed in - nice! The order was accompanied by several dill pickle slices. Overall, very nice. read more

Oh. My. GAWD. As a KC native I've tried it all‐ Joe's, Bryant's, Jackstack, Slaps... I was super pumped to get good bbq up here in the northland, but dare I say this might be the best I've had in the city! And they just opened last week and don't even have their full menu available yet! Tonight I got a takeout sampler of orders of ribs, pulled pork, and the brisket with fries and beans for the sides. The Off the Hook food truck was at Briarfest this weekend and my tent mate and I decided to give them a try.We both got the pulled brisket sandwich, which came with chips and pickles. The sandwich was huge! The bun was filled with beautifully tender and flavorful pulled brisket. The sauce was sweet and tangy and there was just the right amount. I understand they have a walk up window in Parkville, and are planning to open a brick and mortar later this year at 152 and Green Hills Rd. Highly recommend you give them a try! read more

Just had our first visit here and it will definitely not be our last! This is the best barbecue in Kansas City's Northland. Period. Some of the best in the entire city! We tried the sampler platter so we could taste a little of everything and oh my....every single thing was outstanding. The beef, the turkey, the ribs...oh the ribs...all are fall apart tender, juicy and so, so flavorful! The beans and slaw are fantastic! There are two sauce offerings and we can highly recommend the "spicy" sauce. It's not spicy, as in hot, it's just got a little more of spiced oomph than the original (which is also very good, don't get me wrong). All this amazing food and you're in a place that's open and airy and comfortable and welcoming and warm and...and... If you're looking for some INCREDIBLE barbecue, this is the place you want to be. I went back to try out more of the menu. My previous review was written during their soft open period and my choices were limited. Today I got to try their brisket, sausage, beans and cheesy potatoes, as a carryout. My wife got a Turkey melt, beans and Coleslaw. I got to chat with the owner/manager and staff. They are all so nice, hardworking and friendly. It's refreshing to find a place where they are happy and truly interested in their customers. That alone will keep me coming back and recommending to my friends. Like my first review, they're at a new location and it's very clean and cozy. I love the counter seating. Now for the food. The brisket passed the pull test, was very moist, little fat, and very flavorful. The sausage was the best I've had. I don't usually order sausage because the smoke doesn't penetrate the skin very well; so I usually pass on it. However, this time I went for it and was pleasantly surprised. It was kind of like a polish sausage with medium heat, super texture and flavor. The beans are my favorite of all in the city, very good. The cheesy potatoes were good but not what I was expecting, almost a mashed potato with hash browns mixed in and a cheese sauce. I did try a bite of my wife's Turkey melt and it was delicious. I will revisit that one. All in all, I really enjoyed this BBQ restaurant and it's become a quick favorite. My only negative is the cost vs portion size. It was adequate but I had room for more which is unusual for a BBQ serving. It won't keep me away but if they made a little tweak towards larger portions, I'd get even more excited about eating there. Try 'em out, you'll be glad you did! read more

Myself and a co-worker stopped in today for lunch. Got to meet Wardell and his mom. They are super nice people. I ordered the brisket sandwich that came 2 sides. The sides I got were Max and cheese and the Baked beans. The only thing that fought me off guard was the brisket sandwich I wasn't expecting a chopped brisket sandwich. It was good though I really enjoyed it. The Mac and Cheese was good also. I loved the Baked Beans. This were delicious. My coworker got the pulled pork sandwich and loved it. He also enjoyed the Mac and cheese. They gave us 2 extra sides for free to try Cheesy potatoes and potato salad. I didn't know it was going to be mashed potato's but they were legit, loved them. The potato salad was a little to sweet for me. But all in all I will be back.
