What a wonderful and joyful place that fosters laughter. The positivity and kindness that TJ & Wendy provide is overwhelming and it flows onto the stage where the laughs are plentiful. The space is intimate and big at the same time. The audience has comfortable movie theater seats so you can laugh while being relaxed. Enjoy a show( you can't go wrong with Pawn Takes Queen) or change your life for the better by taking an improv class. You won't regret it! read more

Off the Cuff is THE place to be at 8:00 pm on a Friday night in Cedar. They cater to all audiences and since it's improv, they always have something new and exciting to see. We love the regulars in every show and love how they showcase new talent each week. I hope everyone takes the time to come, watch, and participate. I'm so happy I can be the first to review! This company is owned by a couple, whom I just met last night at "The Vagina Monologues". They both are improvise comedians who opened this place in 2004 and perform regularly every weekend and host varies other shows such as the one I saw last night. The space is small, but utilized well, with one stage in the black box style. The audience seats I'm guessing no more than 50, on black chairs that have the donors name on the back. Very aesthetically pleasing. "The Vagina Monologues" was in honor of Canyon Creek Woman's Crisis Center, with all proceeds going towards their cause. Something close to my heart, as I am a woman--I appreciated the style in which it was performed---coming full circle with the theme of the show and the organization it was benefiting. Plus it's just hilarious to see women talking about their vaginas all night. Tickets were only $5. Seriously would have paid more. I didn't stay for the improv show at 10pm, but will be back definitely to check them out. They all seem very nice, and the casting was excellently done! read more

My wife and I made our first visit to OTC this past Friday. We were not sure what to expect, but with little to do at 10pm on a Friday in Cedar City, we decided to give it a shot. We were very pleasantly surprised! The improv was great. I'd have given it 5 stars if there had been beer available (heck even BYOB), and maybe some better concession options. So, eat first, then go have a great time! read more

An excellent place to spend a Friday night! I love going to OTC after dinner and drinks. Every show is different, hilarious, and all the players are so incredibly talented! I'd recommend this place to any local or person traveling through looking for a good time. In my opinion, it's a hidden gem in Southern Utah. read more

First, I make it a point to post positive reviews. If I had something negative to say about a business, I would contact them first, rather than posting my "beefs" for all the world to see. It is only fair. That being said....OTC is a wonderful addition to the Cedar City entertainment scene. This is a group of truly funny humans that just love what they do. You can catch their show every Friday night and they even teach classes and workshops. Improv is not an easy gig, but this group of charismatic performers will impress you every time. It's the best entertainment in town for the price. Where else can you get unrehearsed performances. This is reality at its finest!!! If you haven't been, check it out, you won't be sorry. read more

I was invited to the red rocks improv festival, which is hosted by these fine human beings. They have a beautiful performance space with ample parking. I was amazed by the level of improv at OTC and was blown away by how friendly and accepting everyone was. This is a very special place. read more

We are Southern Utah's longest running improv comedy. We specialize in mixing elements of both short form and long form improv styles.

History

Established in 2004.

We started out performing at the Grind Coffeehouse in January of 2004 performing every Friday night. Over the next 8 years we moved our shows to a hotel, a kids' inflateables center, a bakery, and, in 2012, we finally moved into our own theater!

Meet the Business Owner: Wendy P.

Wendy and her husband, TJ, began OTC back in 2004 with their friends Dave and Mary Armour. It all started simply from a love of improv and wanting the opportunity to perform more regularly. Over time the team grew into a company and in 2012 they moved into their own theater and training center.

It is not the building on the corner but right next to it. Parking is plentiful in the college lot "kitty Korner" across from the complex. Also, it is habitually cold, especially in the front rows. They have little blankets to loan you but it is best to bring a jacket. When we were there it was 100 degrees outside and probably high 50's where we were sitting.

The seats in the main part of the theater looked narrow and uncomfortable, so we were glad we were not there. The offerings at this theater are good. As I said, they were doing a revival of "Big River," an adaptation of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain (Samuel Clemens). It was well performed with talented actors and singers. The gift shop is cute but not well-managed (or friendly). The price for the tickets are a bit high, but not outside of range. Would return.

The actors are top-notch, along with direction and a hardworking festival crew. The free events, like actor seminars and play orientations, add tremendous value to the experience. The Engelstad is really special, as are the festival grounds, which are a part of the SUU campus. If you want to get lost in a theater for a few days, this is a must-do experience. I loved it so much that I'm heading back to see the shows I missed. For reference, I'm a theater fan and often see shows on Broadway and in Las Vegas at the Smith Center and our community theaters.

I have loved everything I've ever seen from Off The Cuff. They're more than a typical comedy troupe. I know they are always improving and seeking out the best talent and education opportunities. They do so much to enrich the community. Not only does OTC always put on an excellent show, their venue provides a performance outlet for local bands and small theater companies that they wouldn't have had otherwise. They provide classes, do charity events, and are, in my opinion, shining a light into a type of performance that couldn't be done by anyone else in such a small community. In a tiny Town, there are only so many choices for entertainment for you. So if you're sick of bowling and walking around Walmart, Off The Cuff offer an evening of unique enjoyment that you've never seen and never will see again at a very reasonable price. Laugh yourself happy. This is where you go if you want to embarrass yourself laughing, then let go when you see everyone else is laughing just as hard. These comic geniuses are so gifted and connected to each other that they create a story right in front of you that seems impossibly possible, some kind of fictional truth. The OTC crew are also great people, all are very invested in their art and how it can continue to enrich the community. Leave the typical entertainments behind for the unusual and unique. For the night you become part of a family, except it's the cool one you always wished you had. I went again tonight. They played my favorite game, The Usual Suspects. For a small town, Cedar City sure has a big city improv group. They have a pretty amazing location. It's a safe area. The venue is theirs and it's huge. Only $5 for an improv show that debuts new games and perform both short and long form improv. This team and location sure belong in LA or Chicago. The team are super friendly. At the end of the show I talked to a few of them and they were so nice. I know I'll be going back for sure whenever I'm in the area. read more

OTC will make you laugh until you cry. When I come back to Cedar, Off the Cuff is on my list of must do's. It's crazy inexpensive, the performers are professional onstage and friendly offstage, the sound and light design are perfect, and the venue is cozy. I cannot recommend it enough. These guys are hilarious!! I would highly recommend going to their shows and It's so much cheaper than a movie theater or anything else fun in Cedar! I usually cry because I'm laughing so hard and I'm not someone who easily laughs. They're one of the funnest things to do in Cedar by far. read more
