This company is a scam. they pawn the training off on Trainers that are independent contractors. Our not even 2 year old dog had his first lesson at lake Meade park than went with Kayla to board for the weekend, unbeknownst to us was driven 1.5 hrs away to North Carolina and was dropped off at an animal clinic deceased. we never gave permission for him to be taken cross state lines. yes, we were refunded however it's not enough for our childrens sobbing all weekend over their dog dying. read more

STAY AWAY: I paid $2k+ for the 2 week board and train...There are no words to describe how awfully we got ripped off and our poor sweet dog was basically caged up the majority of the time. I was told that our golden retriever puppy would be trained on basics like not jumping to greet and walking on a leash. Turns out that was not worked on at all. He was allegedly trained on sit, come, and place (barely) and this was for over 2 grand? You've got to be kidding me. The worst part -the trainer admitted that because of her own dogs she has at home, he wasnt allowed out of his cage except to train and then she said he was trained for an hour a day. So what does that mean? He was in his cage all day EXCEPT for an hour a day?! So basically those pics and videos I got were from the ONE hOUR he was allowed out of his cage (Gut wrenching to think about even now) ONE HOUR?!!!! I cried when we brought him home-not because of anything other than feeling like a terrible dog mom for letting him go to this awful place. Worse than u would expect from the lowest rate dog kennel. When we got home-he was even worse to walk on a leash and nothing changed with his jumping. I spoke to a rep for an hour before buying this boarding program about the goals we had for our pup and she was all about it. We got scammed pretty good. Finally to make things worse-I called multiple times after the fact asking to talk to the manager or someone in charge...guess what?! Not a single call back-just an email saying they were sorry I wasn't satisfied with results and that I qualified for a one hour free refresher course. Are you kidding me? No thanks!! They rave about how supportive they r of military and even give a 10% discount yet when the very military they support have an issue or concern...radio silence. I guess they figure they already have my money so why bother. I should have done more research on this place instead of relying on a few reviews. Huge mistake. read more

My husband and I are very lucky to find Off Leash K9 Training. We adopted Lainey, a Belgian Melanois, a couple months ago. When we met her, we knew we had a lot to work on. Aside from being abandoned, we do not know much about her history. She is a great dog and playful, happy, and eager to please. However, she was aggressive and reactive towards strangers. She would bark, growl, and lunge at people who she didn't know, especially if they acknowledged her. My husband and I worked with her for a short time, but felt like she would benefit from more intensive training to build her confidence. When we dropped her off for a three week board and train, we were not sure how much she would get out of the experience. I expected her obedience to improve, but still thought she would continue her anxious and aggressive behaviors. When we picked her up, she was completely different! We met her trainer, Josh, in Lowe's, and were totally blown away. She was standing in a store full of strangers, kids, carts, and other dogs, and was not lunging, barking, or growling! In addition to having a number of new obedience skills, Lainey was tuning out all the extra noise that had caused her such bad anxiety. The biggest change we saw came in her demeanor- she now seemed like a more relaxed dog. She seemed to much happier! We have had her home for three weeks. We continue to work on her obedience skills, and there are times she pushes the boundaries. In addition, we have worked very hard to take her out to public places with crowds at least 4-5 days a week for an hour each. I was worried we would not be able to maintain the huge strides she made in training, but she has done great. We have been able to take her hiking, on walks, to dog-friendly stores, and breweries. We couldn't even imagine doing this in the past. We haven't been perfect, and she still has her moments, but we are so proud that she has come such a long way. I would definitely recommend Josh and Off Leash K9 Training. My husband and I had several phone conversations prior to bringing her, mostly because I was concerned the training would simply mask her underlying anxiety without addressing the cause. However, seeing her change to being so relaxed, I can say that the training was well worth it. If your dog suffers from aggression, definitely give them a try. I am a very sad dog parent. I had two dogs complete 2 week and the other 3 week board and train. Ghost who completed the 3 week program, I was satisfied with. Hermione however returned home a different dog and became increasingly more and more aggressive over time. Prior to her training she and ghost shared everything! food, water, toys. She had never displayed any tendencies of aggression ever! not so much as a growl and was the biggest teddy bear. While away training they had different food dishes. Upon returning home, Hermione growled and snaps anytime Ghost is near the food dish and I was forced to seperate them. On two separate occasions I came home to Ghost bloody, while Hermione has not a single scratch on her. This has led to surgeries and antibiotics. Hermione does not listen! not in the slightest. Taylor stated Hermione was crate trained and showed this at orientation, however upon returning home, crate experiences have been disastrous. She moved the crate over to my bed (that was made) and was able to pull a California king comforter into her crate and shred it. Taylor came over for a refresher, and tried to get Hermione to get into crate basics. I was really hopeful. This however was not successful, she has destroyed multiple crates and doors trying to get out of the area and destroyed her paws doing so. When I took her to the vet, it was recommended I rehome her, as she needs to be the only dog in the home as her aggression has caused ghost to almost die. The website states 100% guarantee, however I would NEVER use this service. When I brought up my concerns via email with pictures the supervisor took two weeks to respond. She then stated I been to keep Hermione crate trained and when I am not around have her in the crate. I explained that was not fair to my dogs and that I would like the issue of aggression addressed she stated it was really the crate training because if she's crated I won't have this issue. I spent around 3000 and ended up having to remove my dog with was a devastating experience. I requested a refund and they stated no, but I could get refresher lessons. I do not trust this company and feel completely abandoned and pumped for money on a promise they never delivered. read more

Steer clear of these guys. They charged me for board and train for two dogs - roughly $4,500. We were forced to re-home one of our dogs because they couldn't get her into training for 4 months. When I notified them that we no longer have the dog, they agreed to a refund. I saw the notification come through for the refund, and was surprised because I've heard the horror stories of this firm and how difficult it is to work with them. Turns out they re-charged my credit card for the same exact amount they refunded - so no refund. I'm now working with my credit card company to dispute. I've also spoken to some of the trainers that were contracted with this company, and all but one quit their jobs in our area because of how horribly they were treated in terms of compensation, work load, etc. The trainers were often caught in the middle between incompetent management and frustrated customers. Dog training is completely unregulated, a "wild west" of an industry. Don't trust these guys - there are plenty of other options out there. read more

We agreed my dog would bee trained and get his Good Canine Certificate Award. It was in the emails. When I picked my dog up, the trainer said the certificate would be arriving in the mail. It never did. I called the AKA, and they have no record of my dog. Josh Wilson won't respond. I've asked what happened and why I was told something that was not true, but he just won't respond. Our lives have been a million times easier now that we can tell him what we want him to be doing and he's going to have a better/more fun life now that we can take him anywhere and feel confident he will listen to us. Wonderful training experience! I was updated daily with pictures and videos and even texts by the trainer. We had JJ. His communication was great during the entire process. My boys where great at simple commands (most of my friends would say they were well trained) but I really wanted my dogs to be 100% all the time. We had issues walking with reactivity to other dogs/ small creatures and people. They are back and very focused. I know it will be an on going training to keep the recall good but they have had such a good transformation. I did the 2 week board and train. You should also be fine with e- collar. For those that don't know these are not shock collars. It equivalent to the electrical muscle stimulators humans wear. Also the goal is the the repetition and recall continue after the 2 weeks so that you can eventually wean the dogs off the collar. read more

He charged me $2800 for a boarding slot 2 months in the future. two days later I had a significant change in my financial situation and requested cancellation of the contract and full refund. I had heard horror stories of boarding training, which is what I purchased, but Off Leash K9 Training is safe, caring, compassionate, and educational for anyone's pooch. I love how strong the communication is with the trainer. Additionally, my dog went into heat during her boarding training and to ensure my pooch received the love and environment she needed to learn properly, they sent her home with me and re-booked the remaining parts of her boarding training without additional cost. I was concerned about my pooch losing the training but my pooch recalled her training immediately and it is clear that there was no reason for me to worry at all. I had a Dutch Shepard that was a year came here for training and they completely ruined him. There was a night I didn't get an update and got really worried something happened to my dog. He came home with kennel cough blood shot red eyes and splinters still inside of his front paws. This training made my dog fear aggressive to the point he would per if I picked the collar up. Eventually my dog become so hard to handle I had to re-home and lost $3000 that I busted my ass for. I even took my dog to San Antonio and they said he needs to be trained again that it wasn't aggression but a week later he attacked another dog which he had never showed any signs or aggression before training. From lounging at my step son and husband to attacking another dog was a huge concern and I've contacted them on several occasions even Mathew the trainer said he was shocked to hear my dog acting the way he did. Before we even got a puppy we began reviewing different trainers. We knew that if we were going to have the best life with our dog in a big city, he'd need to be well trained. Primarily, our hope was that we'd be able to take him to work with us and almost anywhere else too. We settled on Off Leash K9 Training after watching their YouTube videos. In particular, we were impressed with the huge transformations in the doodles they trained. We signed up and waited for the time when our puppy Pilot would be old enough (at 5 months) to go to training. One concern that popped up for us between signing up and sending Pilot off to training was the topic of the e-collar. We started reading about how some countries have banned it and how it can be used to cause harm to dogs. Of course we panicked. We wrote to Kendall the trainer and expressed our concerns. She did a good job of explaining the concept of the e-collar and how it's used and extremely low levels to get the dog's attention, not to punish. We then reached out to two trainers we know: one who only uses clicker training and one who is a very hippy trainer for the SPCA in San Francisco. Both of them said that when used the right way with professional trainers, the e-collar is an amazing tool for teaching certain skills, most notably off-leash training. This helped us feel more comfortable as well. Our labradoodle Pilot was not the typical doodle. He was calm, attentive, easily trained, and not excessively hyper. We fell in love with him and even started to wonder if the K-9 training would yield results since he was already so great. I'm glad we didn't back out, because the results were still amazing. Kendall met with us a few weeks before the actual training so she could assess Pilot and give us pointers for our own pre-training with him. She was very informative and reassuring, not to mention a total sweetheart with Pilot. She also showed us the e-collar. She put it on our hands, arms, and necks so we could feel the pulse it emits. She showed us just how low she would be using it on Pilot (level 4 or 5 out of 100) and we couldn't even feel it. This also helped reassure us that the collar would be used as a positive tool instead of a negative one. When the time came, being away from Pilot for two weeks was hard on us. We missed him terribly. But Kendall sent us nightly video updates about Pilot's progress. It was so great to see him learning all types of new commands and to see his tail wagging while he was doing them. When we got Pilot back, the results were amazing. Because he was already so attentive and eager to please, he learned his new skills really quickly and perfectly. Being able to place him somewhere for extended periods of time made it so much easier to take him to work with us every day. The fact that he perfectly heels to us makes taking him on walks or to the park such a joy. Once he's in the heel command, literally nothing distracts him -- not other dogs, kids, cars, loud noises -- he's totally focused. And when he's playing at the park with other dogs and I decide he needs to come back for a minute, he returns without a second thought and sits at my feet until I release him again. The other dog parents at the park have been asking for his trainer's info left and right because they're so impressed with Pilot and his attention to me and the commands. Someone said recently that a dog is so much happier when he's well-trained and doing the right thing. And it's so true. Pilot LOVES that we can take him places and do more with him without constantly have to tell him no or rein him in. The training was perfect in every way. Kendall was phenomenal. She clearly loved Pilot and cared for him as if he were one of her own. I would not hesitate to enthusiastically recommend Kendall and Off Leash K9 Training to anyone interested. (In fact, I've probably already given her number out 5 or 6 times in the last month). You and your dog will be so much happier after this training. read more

Buyer Beware In Hampton Roads I think the Google reviews are deceptive because they are drawing from franchises across the country. Something is wrong with Off Leash in Hampton Roads. The Yelp reviews paint a clearer picture. On 28 September, we paid $5400 for two dogs in "board and train." The next day, we found out that we weren't getting the second dog. We requested a refund (well inside their required 7-day period). Josh Wilson texted back that would take care of it, but he never did. For the next 42 days, we repeatedly inquired about the status of the refund. About once a week, they would send a text that they were working on it. One would think that you could simply call the office and straighten it out over the phone, but it's nearly impossible to talk to a person at that office. They list two local numbers, but they both go to an answering service. I left Josh five voicemails asking him to please return my call. No one ever did. I was finally able to speak to their "Customer Experience Manager" and expressed my frustrations. Finally, on 8 November, a $2700 pending refund appeared on my credit card statement. On 9 November, the "Customer Experience Manager" texted that Off Leash was "clearly not the best fit for your needs. The second portion of the refund should come through your account within 7-10 business days." This was the only thing Off Leash did right. At this point, we would never have turned our dog over to them. Of course, we never saw the second portion of the refund. On 12 November, in classic Off Leash fashion, the initial $2700 pending refund disappeared from our account. Fortunately, I paid with a credit card and have copies of all text traffic. American Express has credited our account and can settle with Off Leash. Not sure what Off Leash's deal is, but something is wrong with Josh and the Hampton Roads office. read more

Off Leash K9 Training has changed our lives!!! We have three pups; two Golden Retrievers and a Yorkie (13 years old!). When we adopted our newest Golden Girl, Penny, she was only 8 weeks old. By the time Penny reached 12 weeks, she was a handful and wanted to use our beloved Yorkie as a chew toy! Out of desperation, I googled dog trainers in our area (SF Bay Area) and found Off Leash K9 Training. I called the number on the website and Josh answered the phone. After explaining everything involved with training, I decided to sign up both of our Golden Girls for the two-week board and train. When the day came to hand our GGs off to Kendall (Penny's 5-month birthday), I have to admit ... I was nervous ... but not for long!!! Kendall sent us a video of the GGs that same night ... AND THEY WERE ALREADY LEARNING PROPER MANNERS!!!! Every night, my husband and I received updated videos of our smart girls. We were sooooo happy with Kendall and Off Leash K9 Training that we sent the Golden Girls back for advanced training six months later. And, this September, the GGs will return to Kendall for even more training. What a treat for them and us. Off Leash K9 Training has changed our lives in that we can bring our Golden Girls anywhere and trust that they will have good manners. This training acts as a language between our GGs and us. Furthermore, we travel a lot ... and we bring our GGs everywhere with us. While we spend time in our home in Tahoe, we know that our GGs are going to stay on property and not dart off after a squirrel or chipmunk. This element has offered us such peace of mind, because of the number of coyotes and other wildlife in the area. read more

Trainer called me 4 days out just to tell me she would call me two days out to let me know where to drop my dog off. She did not call. I had to call her and leave a message and email company before she called back. Due to poor communication and trainer making excuses I decided I did not trust having my dog trained with this company. They denied my refund of $2400 saying that I didn't cancel 7 days before appointment. How can I when my first call wasn't until 4 days out. I highly recommend you seek another trainer. read more

Honestly I was close to selling him until I took him to off leash K9 training Hampton Roads. All I can say Is WOW!! Alex Dynan his trainer this guy really knows his job he train King for two week, and after King training he train our family how to control King. Unbelievable the way King is now. This dog would jump all over people go to the bathroom anywhere he pleased especially in the house, King would not response to any of our command, I tell people our dog went from a crazy untamed animal to a wonderful part of our family. Terrible experience! Terrible training with no regard for the specific dog. They have amatuer trainers who act like they watched a 20 minute video and then called themselves trainers. "Use the e-collar" is their answer to everything. They do not understand e-collars or have any real education in dog behavior. The training they recommended made our dog worse, so much worse that she bit someone. The e-collar was not the right training tool for her but we trusted these so called trainers. She paid over a thousand dollars only to be treated terribly during the sessions, and then be completely dismissed when we talked about our dog's behavior getting worse. The owner is completely non-responsive. He doesn't answer complaints not even if you go to corprate. Please don't trust these people with your dog! Go to a real trained professional who will actually respond to your conerns. I'm strongly considering a lawsuit based on what happened to my family. read more

I have a great dog who I wanted evaluated for service dog certification. My boy had a hard fail due to his prey drive. While that was disappointing, the professionalism and integrity of this organization did not feed me or my dog with a lot of bull and promises. Therefore saving me time and money. Jasper, due to his serious leash reactivity towards other dogs did a 3 week board and train with Josh Avila. The only reason I gave only 4 stars is that Jasper still reacts in certain situations. And he has also reacted to a couple of children. That said, he comes IMMEDIATELY upon being called. Today a golden retriever was being walked right behind our "see through" fence. Jasper started to bark at it. I called him and he came right into the house. I'm glad I sent him for the training. I could not have done it. We still may have some work to do, but I'm enjoying Jasper more now than I did. It was stressing me out. I should note that Jasper is an Australian Cattle dog and wants to herd and needs to have that cow nipping instinct trained out of him. read more

Larry at Off leash was able to transform my lab puppy from a hyper, disobedient, wild child to a behaved, trick all star calmer dog in a matter of 2 weeks! It was unreal to see his progress through the videos everyday & I am still shocked when I open the front door he does not take off!
