I just moved into town a couple weeks ago and was in desperate need of a hair cut. So I found Off Camber Studios. First off let me say that this place is 100,000% amazing. Walked in and was greeted and asked if I wanted a beverage while I waited. The staff is very professional and they do some amazing work. My original appointment was with Christopher but he was a bit behind so Ben Barns stepped in and cut my hair. Ben is by far one of the best hair stylist I've ever been to. He has a very good eye for detail and was able to perform my cut to my specifications. This is a place where you feel at home. I will be back for my next hair cut. I love this place! I always feel so relaxed coming here - everyone really makes you feel welcome! Elizabeth is the best- I've been coming to her for almost a year and she always listens to what I am looking for and I never leave feeling anything less then beautiful! After a few bad hair cuts in the past I had shied away from keeping up with the regular 8 week trims but one time in with Elizabeth and I haven't looked back. She really makes you feel comfortable, truly understands the importance of giving the client exactly what they are looking for. My hair has always had difficulty growing but with my consistent trims and care from Elizabeth my hair has never felt longer or more healthy! She has been doing my hair ombre for a few months now and Im extremely pleased with how natural she makes it look as I like to keep things fairly low maintenance. I went to Off Camber for several months and only left because I moved states. I saw Stevie while going here and thought she did an awesome job. I have super thick hair that can be pretty unruly if not thinned out and have struggled to find someone who will thin it out to my liking and do what I ask (since most would be bald by the time they'd be done thinning). I am new in town and have had horrible experience with my hair dressers.. I wanted to get some highlights but something very subtle was always what I wanted.. My future sister in law said to join her here and I had my appointment with Michael. Best thing I have ever done. He was so nice and listened to everything I said. I told him how each time highlights came out too yellow for me and I was scared to get them with my wedding next month. I love my highlights and he told me he would rather go more subtle and then have me come back if I wanted them more bold vs having them too much on the first time. As a dude going to a salon for a haircut I thought I would feel out of place. Fortunately that has never been the case. Ben and family have always hooked me up with a good cut and good conversation. Off Camber was a great little salon. The studio complex is awesome and you feel treated with high end care. I came in for a touch up and mens hair cut with my hair and walked out as if I never went in. I was also charged quite a hefty sum for what was done (which was seriously nothing) and I thought he would of recognized that when giving me the total. He was a nice guy and professional, but the compensation at the end was absurd. I know they are more high end and up a level from a barber, but I felt he should of recognized that he barely cut anything and should set a price accompanying that cut correctly. I started seeing David about four or five years ago for my Brazilian blowouts. Unfortunately, I moved to Peoria on the west side and the commute to Off Camber was inconvenient for me. I saw 3 different stylist with many years of experience and was dissatisfied. I finally decided to take the commute and go back to David. I've learned my lesson and I promised David I will never cheat on him again! I referred 4 people to him and they are extremely satisfied! Michael has been cutting my hair for about 6 months now. My hair is tougher to cut than most guy's hair because it is very thin. So if I get a bad haircut it will show every single scissor cut. I really wanted to love this salon, I really did but lets be honest - Its not a salon, its a 1 room studio with staff and clients all on top of each other... nothing luxurious about it even though they really try to push that vibe. I never left hating my hair but I also never left liking it either for the 2 times I put my hair through the trial period. What I can't stand is my stylist who I won't throw under the bus cause hey maybe he is only comfortable with straight hair and needs more training because it wasn't horrible (was deff not great though), but if its my first time in your chair don't insult me by talking trash to me about my hair texture/condition by literally saying things like "I hope I can make it look good but I might not" like bro if i'm paying you $800+ for color, cut and tape in extensions (which I did and am still kicking myself over) it better be perfect which it was anything but since I could not put my hair up at all without tracks showing for the entire time they were in. Tried one more time for retape to see if he could redeem himself after I expressed how they show but nope.... another $500 down the drain. There is no way this salon should be charging these prices until they are all properly trained on ALL hair textures and can color hair without streaks everywhere if you're gonna call this a salon. read more

AMAZING is all I can say about Jeni and what she has done with my hair. My hair dresser moved about 4 years ago and I was very apprehensive about letting someone else touch my hair. Jeni was someone I knew that did funky hair and so I gave it a whirl and she took my hair to a whole new fun level. Everyone in the shop is always so friendly and they go out of their way to make you feel comfortable and at home. I can't say that I will ever go anywhere else for my cuts and coloring. Where do I begin?! I scheduled an appointment with Michael to correct a color that I was not satisfied with from a previous stylist. My hair was a whole mess of colors and by the end, he toned everything down to an ombre that is not so crazy. Phase one of the color correction could not have gone any better! They have never quite nailed the look I wanted and I have never been totally unsatisfied. I had a really unpleasant experience here. I had read all of the reviews for Elizabeth saying she is amazing with hair color, and dyed hair white. I want to transition my hair from a dyed brown to a gray/white, so I scheduled an appointment with Elizabeth for color and a haircut. When I got there, I brought my pictures and told Elizabeth that I want to transition to either a gray or a white. Her response was "I don't think that's a good idea. I think you should just keep dying it the same color." I asked why, but she didn't offer any other explanation. She just said "I don't think it's a good idea for you." I was surprised that she didn't seem to want to discuss it, so I started asking more questions. I said I noted that one of her reviews on Yelp said she had dyed a client's hair white, and she said "yes, but her hair was already light blonde." She also said that she only had 30 minutes. I told her I didn't expect it to be changed in one appointment and realize it is a process that takes several months. Finally she said "I'm not the person to do that for you," which is when I understood that, while she does dye hair, she isn't comfortable transitioning hair from brown to gray or white. One of the things I asked her was how women get their hair to grey or white, since I don't plan on dying my hair brown into my 70's, and her suggestion was to cut it really short and let it grow out. So, since it wasn't going well, and since I realized I was going to have to find a different hairdresser, and because she had already said she only had 30 minutes, I just asked her to touch up my roots, and told her I would skip the haircut. So she colored my roots, then put me out into the hallway. The salon she is in is VERY tiny and cramped. Their salon is in a building with several other hairdressers who all have different storefronts, so for Off Camber Studios, the only place to sit while your hair is processing is in the hallway. Having people strolling around while your hair is processing was a weird experience for me. When I first arrived, Elizabeth and her assistant asked if I wanted anything to drink. I asked for water. While I was sitting in the hallway for 40 minutes, water never arrived. I finally asked someone in a different hair salon whether there was water somewhere, and she gave me some. Right about that time, Elizabeth's assistant came out, and as I was throwing the water cup away, I told her I had just gotten some water, wondering if she would realize she never brought me any. Her response, in that false brightness people use, was "Oh! That's great!" Whatever. So then the assistant washed [most of] the dye out of my hair. She didn't put a towel around my neck, and by the time she was done, the back 10" of my shirt was soaking wet. I was surprised she got my neck wet because she never actually touched the hair at the nape of my neck when she was washing/rinsing it. I haven't had someone soak my shirt when they were washing my hair at a salon in the entire time I've been going to a hairdresser. After the assistant was done washing my hair, I went back to Elizabeth. The assistant wiped off the dye on the left side of my face, but for some reason didn't touch the right side of my face. I then asked for something to wipe it off myself. At that point, it was clear Elizabeth was tense, and she made a comment to the assistant along the lines of me wanting some wipes even though she didn't see anything. Well I saw something, and I used the wipes not only on my face, but also to wipe off the dye behind my ears on and my neck that the assistant didn't bother getting off while she was washing my hair. Elizabeth did apologize about my back being wet, and attempted to dry it some with her hair dryer. At that point, I left without having Elizabeth dry my hair. It was a miserable experience, and I didn't feel like it was professional at all, and I just wanted out of there. I may not have posted this review, but as I was walking out, one of them laughed. I didn't turn around, so I don't know which one of them it was, but it was that laugh that got me to take the time to write this review. I will say that Elizabeth was polite while she was talking with me. I was surprised, though, that she didn't want to discuss why she didn't want to transition my hair to gray or white when I had read posts that she dyed hair white in the past, and that I had to dig an answer out of her. I don't know if her assistant deliberately got my back wet and left dye on my face because I decided not to have Elizabeth cut my hair, but I definitely felt more of an attitude coming from her. Very, very bad experience overall. On a plus note, after that, I went to Desiree at The Root Salon, and she is transitioning my hair, and she is FANTASTIC. I highly recommend her for all color jobs. read more

I just want to start off by saying how hard it is to find a hair salon that can give you everything you're looking for in one. I called multiple salons all over the valley to help me fix my chemically damaged hair and scalp, and just didn't feel right with any of them. From rude salon receptionists to impossible availability, I finally stumbled upon Off Camber Studios and was kindly greeted from the minute the phone was picked up. I didn't know exactly what I wanted or needed done and the lady was completely understanding an scheduled me with Michale the next day. Being apprehensive about a new place I was soon warmly welcomed upon arrival and suddenly calmed down. Michael was absolutely amazing!! I seem to be soft spoken and he completely listened to what I wanted and also provided me with helpful tips and guided me as to what to do with my hair. I came across this studio on Yelp and decided to give it a try I first went in for my consultation for a balayage with David Hanson. He re assured me that he understood what I wanted and make me feel 100 percent confident he could pull it off. I met back with him a few days later to do it and I couldn't have asked for more amazing hair. I have never gone lighter with my hair and was very nervous but David did amazing work. All around I am so happy with the finished product and happy that I chose off camber. read more

The studio is so clean, and stylish. Every stylist in there seems to do great hair. However, I adore Elizabeth Powers and how great she is at doing my hair. I can show her some pics or talk to her about what I'm thinking and she creates magic and makes it better than I could imagine. I've been going to her for over a year now and wouldn't think about switching, she is well worth the wait for booking. I also love that she runs on time, I know when I get there I'll be seen at the time I booked and be out in a reasonable amount of time. In my book I'd give her 10 stars if it would let me. read more
