We've been tracking for a couple weeks…read moretrying to decide which weekend to make the drive out for a show; it's about an hour from our home. The Saturday showtimes seem to be 10am and 1:30pm. We were aiming for a puppet show last weekend but landed on a science show this weekend and I'm so glad we did! We got to see "Noreen the Science Queen" and engage in a live show with her. Not only was she amazing, but it was so wonderful to expose our girls to a woman in STEM and, more special for them, a Black woman in STEM. After the show, Noreen the Science Queen greeted the attendees in the lobby. She was open for pictures, and was selling both science kits for at home experiments and copies of her book. She is also available for birthday parties!! Now about the Cultural Arts Center, they currently have two exhibits: (1) there is an art show in the lobby in honor of Juneteenth and visitors get to vote on their favorite three (2) there is an exhibit of toys and games from the 1800s on the second floor. We didn't go up to check it out.

I attended a musical performance of the group Abilene on a Saturday night. I truly enjoyed everything about the experience. First, the theater is relatively small, and most seats are not too far from the stage. I had lucked out and was able to purchase a seat in the front row, which is 10 to 15 feet away from the stage. The performance by Abilene was simply spectacular. They describe themselves as a neo classical ensemble. I love the way they took some classical pieces by composers, such as Bach in Vivaldi, deconstructed them, reconstructed them, and made them their own. The peace, entitled Cascades was probably my favorite. It was inspired by the mountain range in the Pacific Northwest. The passionate playing near the end by both the cellist and the violinist was extraordinary. I also love the way they created a peaceful environment during their performance. They had a fog machine or smoke machine, as well as different colored lights used with each song. I also appreciated having David Crowe, the cultural arts coordinator, introduce the group, as well as tell us a little bit about the upcoming performances. While the tickets for next season don't go on sale until May, I'm ready to purchase tickets for more shows in 2023 and into 2024. Cheers

The Stallings foster and exude excellence in their teachings in acting and in life. The wisdom the AWP teachers impart to all their students is unparalleled. The kindness and joy that AWP shares with their students is infectious, creating a community of supportive and inclusive, wildly talented actors who love what they do whilst growing exponentially in the field of acting and in life. AWP gives every actor the opportunity to express themselves in every aspect of the performing arts. AWP celebrates every student and especially what makes them unique. MAJOR UNEXPECTED BONUS....this exuberant experience is also enjoyed by the families of the students which is unique to AWP! This acting school embraces the student's entire family, guiding them along the way, educating them, so parents and siblings can best support the students and help them achieve their goals, all whilst having the time of their lives. AWP creates an engaging, non-competitive environment, where students can lean on one another, celebrate one another's achievements and build life-long friendships. Within AWPs 45-year history, this non-profit acting school has alumni and current students located all over the nation and internationally. These exceptional artists are successful working actors and more importantly, marvelously kind human beings. AWP is much more than a place to take acting classes. It's a community for the entire family. AWPs distinguished acting coaches share a wealth of experience and wisdom with their students, celebrating their growth and challenging them to strive even higher in a supportive and motivating environment. AWPs classes create opportunities to showcase for agents, casting directors and managers. AWP also creates original live ticketed shows from Improv to Cabarets to Musicals to Summer Camps and more, giving the students year-round opportunities to perform for the community in the AWP Black Box Theatre. If that wasn't enough....AWP also takes their students and families on Week-Long Intensive Workshop Trips as a sensational way to level-up, see the world, grow closer to and meet more of the AWP community of actors and families. AWP travels to Los Angeles, New York and the Caribbean to learn from industry professionals, tour studios, be part of live studio-audiences, see the world, build life-long friendships, and grow as an actor and a person. We are so grateful to the Stallings for creating the Atlanta Workshop Players and for all they give to the world. They absolutely live by "leave every place and person, better than you found them".

Yes this has the lazy boy fully reclining seats, yes they have a full bar of libations if you desire, for the kids they have shakes or icees as well. There is a full menu of options like ballpark chicken nachos, bbq brisket and jalapeño tots, pepperoni honey hot pizza, cheese sticks, wraps, full on pasta dishes with shrimp.., seriously this place has you strapping on the feed bag! Now look this is not a Michelin star location but the food is pretty good. Service is very good... press a button and a few seconds later, ok maybe minutes, you server is there. Yes they also have the norms... popcorn, candy (but the selection is limited), soda and such, Be prepared though... the cost is not cheap! A family of 4 with the cost of tickets and all the food... is going to run you 150 to 200 depending on what you drink. It is a full experience though... and honestly we like it!

I think this place has been around since forever, right behind the Mountain View Library. They offer painting, sketching, clay, theatre, and music classes; I tend to find that it's more theatrics than actual drawing classes offered. I've stayed away from acting and music, but they have productions and dinner&shows every season for the public to go to, at $5-$15 per show. The classes are great- but it really depends on your class, really. I've only taken painting, portraiture, and clay, and clay was the worst of them all. Enjoyable? Yes. Would I do it again? No. I don't even remember the instructor's name. My only quip is that for each class, the fees never seem to end. Registration (late or early), actual class fees, baking fees, and oh, the -supplies-! The supplies list never ends, I swear. For pencil portraiture, I thought you bring a pencil and eraser, and a pad. False, it's like 20 different types of pencils, graphite, special erasers left and right, specially bound pads, tissue paper, paper stubs, special ink pens and tips, and oh my god, these things cost a fortune! I just want to draw! Ahem, anyway, the painting guy was ok, but the star of the show is Kip Rogers- after all these years (it's been like 10), I still remember how well he taught his classes and I want to go back, even if this place is about a solid 45 minute drive from where I live now. His class is 95 for first timers and 70 for returners. At that price, it's a freaking steal! (Well, at least for that class....) The Art Place is a special place to me- back when I still drew all over the place, I had been able to be part of some of the shows there, and I appreciated that. You could always walk in and see art from the locals. After all these years, the many of the artists teaching there are still there. Now on to convincing the boyfriend to take these classes with me....
