I was so excited that downtown Charleston was getting an Odd Duck location! I always visit the Park Circle spot when I'm in the area and think the food and coffee are top-notch.
I came in this morning and ordered nearly $25 worth of food and coffee, happy to spend it because I knew it would be good and because I planned to spend the next hour and a half working at the coffee shop. I arrived with my work bag, and before ordering I asked if they had Wi-Fi, making it as clear as I could that I intended to get work done. It wasn't until after I paid and went to find a table that I realized there were no outlets available for customers. When I asked the manager, she told me the only option was for her to take my laptop and charge it in the back. That wasn't helpful, since I can't work on my laptop while it's sitting behind the counter.
I ended up staying only about 30 minutes before my computer died. I didn't get the work done that I needed to, and I'd spent far more than I normally would for a simple breakfast, essentially paying to take up space I couldn't actually use.
I completely understand not wanting to encourage customers to camp out at tables, and that may be exactly why there are no customer outlets. That's fine. But when someone orders food and coffee with a clear intent to sit and work, please let them know before they pay that they won't be able to plug in. I felt a little taken advantage of and frustrated that my whole morning had to shift.
Still giving this place five stars because the food, service, and ambience is great! Just wanted to share this feedback! read more
