Doctor Marcus is very good but be prepared to wait hours unless you are first appointment

Dr very unfriendly. I keep trying to get them to stop calling me but they won't stop. I have no idea why they won't leave me alone.

i made an appointment for 9:15, sat there for three hours and still wasent able to se the doctor!!! waste of time and money!!!

PATIENT BEWARE: THERE IS A $60 PRESCRIPTION FEE. (See attached photograph) This is a new eye doctor for my husband and I. Today was his appointment for a routine eye examination. The staff from reception to support were very professional and welcoming. The doctor was very thorough in his examination. Yet no eyeglass prescription was issued due to the aforementioned fee. I am not alone in finding this charge rather unusual as in the many years of having routine eye examinations done have any kind of fee ever been charged for an eyeglass prescription. Least of all a $60 charge. Take into account that this practice is also on the DMV authorized/recognized list of providers for the eye exam requirement in order to renew your NYS Driver's License. It makes you wonder if there is a fee to fill that form out also and if it too is at an elevated rate. In light of this I am canceling my appointment and we have issued a complaint to our insurance provider regarding this exorbitant fee. Please note that they charge this to Medicare patients as well. OCLI Bethpage - Ophthalmologists Near Me - Bethpage, New York

I had a routine eye exam. They ask you to arrive 15 min early, why? It took them 2 hours to give an eye exam. They give you an eye exam w/ a tech then send you back out to the waiting room to wait for the doctor. I was there so long the techs left for the day & I was still there waiting to see the Dr. I brought this up to the receptionist, just stares, no apology from anyone for the experience. Dr. Marcus has the worst bedside manner. Arrogant. Makes you wait for several hours just to rush through your appointment and be short and cold towards his patients. Find another doctor!! The staff are all miserable and rude. They don't know how to treat elderly people with respect. read more

The above rating is more a reflection on the actual doctor. If I was reviewing the healthcare group in general I'd give it 1 or 0 stars. I have been a patient of Dr. Weinstein's for about 40 years. I've never had any issues with him - he is pleasant and very thorough. I've been through many pairs of glasses and a few stints of contact lenses with him. He and his staff have always been great. Now, the bad points. His practice has been with OCLI for the past few years (4? 5?) and it seems they are trying hard to discourage people from making appointments over the phone. I had called twice to schedule a yearly routine appointment with him. Both times (different times of the day - early morning and mid-afternoon) I got the "we are experiencing higher than normal call volume" recording which told me that all their team are busy helping over patients, they're worry for the long wait. I have to wonder if there is no one to answer the phone at all, or maybe just one person. The recording gleefully informs me that I don't have to wait on hold and can make an appointment at the website. They then give me the option of having them call me back at the same phone number. I chose that option. No one ever called back. It was luck that another family member had an appt at the same office and was able to get me set up with the appt I requested. Incidentally I then tried to make an appointment with a retinal specialist (which Dr. Weinstein had recommended) who is also with OCLI so I wouldn't have to worry about my insurance not being accepted. I tried to call them to set up an appointment at their Woodbury office (the closest to my home). Same problem. No one answered the phone, no one called me back. Out of frustration I went to the website and when I chose the doctor I wanted to see I was told I couldn't do self-appointment with this provider and had to fill out a contact form instead. They said someone would contact me within 2 business days. I probably shouldn't get my hopes up. It's sad that it's gotten to this point. A year ago I had no problems making an appointment even over the phone. There was always someone there to answer it at the office. I know this isn't the doctors' fault but whoever is in charge of customer service at OCLI needs to seriously rethink their setup. I can't be the only one who has experienced some frustration in trying to make an appointment. read more

This place is only getting 1 star and that's for the check in process and cleanliness of the waiting area. It was my first time at this location and upon arrival temperature is taken, routine covid questions, a fresh new pen to fill out paperwork and chairs sprayed with disinfectant before you sit down. I was impressed and felt like I was in good hands with clean and safe practices. However once I was brought to the room, all the ocular equipment looked dirty. There were actual areas with crud and black dirt on the machine. Since my door was Open I was able to see 2 other patient rooms around me. In between patients I NEVER saw anyone go in and clean, wipe down or disinfect ANY of the equipment. I wanted to run out of there but after waiting for 1.5 hours and the weekend approaching, I needed my eyes checked to make sure I didn't need an antibiotic. In my exam room, the eye drops were on display directly next to me- one of the bottles cap was even off and it was just a big unsanitary mess. Finally, after 1.5 hours of waiting the Dr leaves the room across from me and strolls into my room. His mask is BELOW his nose and He DOES NOT Wash his hands. Vaccinated or not, he needs to model appropriate wearing of his mask for his patients especially with signs everywhere with how to "wear your mask". He needs to take a look at what he's preaching and do the same for his patients. I immediately know this was going to be a disaster of a visit. We chat for a minute about my issue and then he finally decides to Purell his hands. Ok this is fine he did clean his hands, but it just seemed unprofessional. The sink was NEXT To HIM. The dr then looks at my eye, we chat and diagnose the issue and then he decides to unnecessarily put eye drops in my eyes to check for eye pressure. Not only did I not want OR even need this done, but he's using the dirty bottle that is next to me and every other patient that has entered the room. I then lean forward and put my chin and forehead on the equipment that I know wasn't wiped down before me. I left feeling like I needed to shower and I'm sure I'll be at a new eye doctor shortly to treat the new eye infection that I got from this disgusting place. My advice- don't let the front area and cleaning measures in the front fool you. Once you head to the exam rooms in the back, you will see how beyond dirty this place is. I'm shocked the health department hasn't closed them down for unsanitary practices. read more

I went to OCLI to fix my narrow angles using Laser Iridotomy. I had started the procedure at another ophthalmologist's office close to my place of work. It was a disaster and I came to OCLI for a second opinion...Dr Hayes finished the Laser Iridotomy on my right eye that the other doctor started but never finished. He then performed the same procedure on my left eye with no pain and no discomfort afterward. Thank you to Dr. Hayes for making the experience of having someone zap a hole in your iris as painless as possible. My experience at OCLI was 5 stars all around. Making appointments was easy, wait times were short, staff and doctors were great. I would recommend OCLI to anyone. Here is the review I left my original doctor so you have the whole story. During a routine eyeglass/contact exam, my optometrist told me I had "narrow angles" and may have to get it fixed in the next few years... Fast forward a few months and I had an episode where the eyesight in both my eyes got very foggy. I needed to see an ophthalmologist quickly. I went to Dr xxxxx as he had an office close to my office in Midtown. He examined me and then scheduled me for Laser Iridotomy a few days later in his Brooklyn office. Laser Iridotomy uses a focused beam of light to create a small hole in the iris, which allows fluid to drain from the back of the eye to the front of the eye. I was told they would zap my eye a few times for 5-10 minutes. Then I would recover for 30 minutes or so and be on my way. Here is what happened. I got to the office on May 2nd at 3:15 for my 3:30 appointment. I waited at least an hour before I saw the doctor. I got my eye zapped for 5 or 10 minutes and he said he was not able to penetrate my iris. I sat for 20 minutes and he zapped my eye for an additional 5-10 minutes. He was not able to penetrate my iris so I sat for 15 minutes and he tried again. He zapped my eye for an additional 5-10 minutes. I lost track. He zapped my eye for three or four sessions and still could not penetrate my iris. He said my iris was very thick. When the numbing eye drops wore off I was in incredible discomfort and had very blurry vision in my right eye. It felt like I had a few grains of sand in my eye. This discomfort lasted for 6 or 7 hours until i finally fell asleep. My eye hurt for a few days but eventually recovered. I made another appointment for May 7th.. The same thing happened. He worked on my eye another three times and still did not penetrate my iris. I went home again with a lot of discomfort. I could not see clearly for 4-5 hours. The next day I called OCLI, a big opthamolgy group on Long Island. I saw a doctor on May 16th. I told him about my experience. He told me that blue eyed people like myself rarely have thick irises. He told me that he had never had to try so many times to penetrate an iris. He told me he had the newest and best equipment around. I cancelled my appointment with Dr. xxxxx and made an appointment with OCLI with Dr Hayes. A few weeks later I arrived at OCLI and DR Hayes worked on my right eye for 60 seconds and finished. I thought he was joking. How could it be done so soon? He was able to penetrate my iris and told me he was done with that eye. I made an appointment for my left eye and left. I had no blurriness or pain. Because of my experience with Dr. xxxxx I did not do my left eye until after softball season ended. I can't play without contacts and after xxxxx worked on me I could not wear contacts due to the discomfort I felt in my eye for a few days. In December 2019, I went back to OCLI and had them do Laser Iridotomy on my left eye. Again, it took 1 - 2 minutes of zapping and then 20 minutes of so of sitting in a waiting room while nurses periodically put drops in my eyes and checked my pressure before dismissing me. No pain..no discomfort. I walked out and went out to dinner. While I liked Dr xxxxx's personality and bedside manner, his staff was generally very courteous but wait times were very long. I just felt that I had to write up my experience. Hopefully Dr xxxxx has upgraded his equipment or his techniques in the last 6 months. I would highly recommend Eye Care Associates & Glaucoma Consultants of Long Island. I recently had cataracts surgery on both eyes. Dr. Daniel Hayes performed the surgery. Dr. Hayes is a highly qualified physician and the surgery was extremely successful. Dr. Hayes is a patience doctor and answered all my questions, not only is he a great doctor; is also a calm person and understands his patients concerns. He explained the procedure to me thoroughly. I would also highly recommend the staff. Every staff member was well informed, caring and professional.. I would especially like to mention Millie Varvi, the Surgical Coordinator, who addressed all my questions and accommodated all of my scheduling needs. She has the disposition of a saint.
