Oceanside is still our go to vet in Charleston. My old pup has passed on, but when we adopted a maniac, there was no hesitation that we would be taking her here. The staff is awesome and the vets are kind and helpful. They are always willing to give you the run down of options (from checking out every possible thing to the bare minimum they recommend) paired with a price estimate for everything. They use PetDesk, which includes Pet Perks- rewards for just coming in and using them! In about a year, I've gotten enough points to redeem a nail trim and a free office visits, with some points still left over. Who doesn't like free stuff for coming to the vet?? Love it here and I anticipate they will be our vet as long as they're around. read more

I have never given a review of a Veterinary Practice, however Oceanside Veterinary Clinic on Folly Rd. is excellent. I brought my Springer Spaniel in for a basic vaccine. First I was promptly able to get an appointment, the staff was kind, professional and thorough. Dr. Gipe was great with my pup who is sometimes difficult to hold still. He recommended some basic lab work and went on to discover what could have been a significant problem. Fortunately it was a previous exposure to a pathogen that is very problematic for dogs. I expected to get a basic email with the results however I received a phone call and the results were thoroughly explained. Oceanside Veterinary is a great find and I am grateful to have done so. read more

When we moved to Charleston several years ago, one thing we did was ask neighbors who to choose for a veterinarian. Three of the four we asked said "Oceanside." So Oceanside it was. Each time we have visited, whether it be routine for immunizations, or a problem for our dog, the veterinarians we have seen, Dr. Zimmerly, Dr. Borakove, and Dr. Lewandowski have been really interested in Mulligan. Not only have they treated the immediate challenge, but they have tried to solve his ongoing respiratory/allergy problems. When we lived in AZ, we did not think the vet we had- a teaching vet in a CO vet school with an innovative approach to caring for dogs and cats could be topped, but the vets at Oceanside have proved us wrong! Clinical services have seemed okay but recently lost both older dogs within one month after receiving many services and paying several thousands of dollars. However, after their second shots, I requested 2 of their small leshes, approximate cost of 35 cents each and was told the office manager would not consent. Great Vet Office. When I moved to Charleston on James Island 14 years ago, I brought my dog there. They took excellent care of her. When she got cancer, they were terrific with her up till the end. Dr. Gipe is fantastic and came to my house to put my Lola to sleep. When I got my new puppy, he has been taking of him. Their whole staff is excellent. I have used another vet for my cat for years and while they were great, Oceanside Vet put them to shame. I really love this vet and the fact that I can text them pictures and questions and get an answer in real time. Anytime I ask them a question via text message they add it to my new puppies records to make our vet visits that much smoother. Had a really great visit with my pup. The lobby is clean with lots of seating and the staff was super friendly. Treats everywhere to help my pup feel at ease. The exam rooms were nice and my dog seemed comfortable throughout the whole visit. The app and tracking information for appointments, vaccines, etc is really helpful and will definitely be useful to plan out my next few visits. It's a nice building and staff, they are just not good on follow through. Called upset that my dogs weren't doing well, dropped off a sample to test and no call back.. nothing. I had to call them.. so they are nice, they just don't care about your dogs enough to call you if your concerned. read more

Oceanside is great. I gave it at 9 because of two changes that I know why they said they made but feel upon request should be a part of the WELLNESS yearly visit. They no longer do fecal collection there. I understand the idea of it being less evasive bringing it in but so is a shot. I think it should be done there if requested because with 3 dogs the other method is never going to happen. Much more unlikely to ever even be able to do it with busy lives. Second all nails were always clipped during a wellness visit that is often ex Po endive at vets. It is no longer done unless requested and then there is a $10 charge. I truly believe that should be part of the visit. Those things being said, they are the best front desk staff I have ever seen in any field. ALWAYS POLITE, CHEERFUL, PATIENT AND THEY HAVE EXCELLENT FOLLOW UP. In addition, the doctors are empathetic, kind, knowledgeable and respectful. OCV is hands down best bet is Charleston. read more

I have been a client at Oceanside for 15 years.....we started when Johnny Ohlandt owned it and it was called Ohlandt Vet Clinic. Johnny was amazing! He would bend over backwards to help your pets. It wasn't about anything but the wellness of your pet for Johnny. A few years ago some Veterinarians bought Johnny out and things were pretty good at first, but prices went up dramatically......but the care level was high. The problem for me started a few months ago. Our dog got a severe laceration on her pad of her foot. The sign in the reception area says "order patients are seen......emergencies, scheduled appointments, and walk-ins". I wanted my dog to be seen by her Vet that she was familiar with. I rushed her toward Oceanside and called. They said they could not see her. Frustrated, I went to the Emergency Clinic. They were great, but it cost us $800 for stitches. Fast forward to today......one of my cats has a severe wound behind his right ear. I requested an appointment via app for first thing this morning. I requested between 8 and 9 and stated in my request that it was emergent. I got a message at 9:16 stating that they couldn't see him. I returned their call and explained that I was on my way and that I would like to be worked in based on their sign that says their protocol for seeing patients. The young lady on the phone again told me they couldn't see my cat and that they may be able to see him late this afternoon. I got upset with the young lady on the phone, and for that I apologize. So now I am at the Emergency Clinic once again. To clean the wound, give antibiotics and anti-inflammatory and a collar......$400! The problem I have is......don't advertise that you will see emergent patients if you have no intention of doing so. I have been in their offices with my pets for routine scheduled visits and have had the technician come in and apologize because there was an emergent patient that had come in and needed to be seen ahead of my pets. Guess what I said? "By all means! I understand. You will get to us when you can". As a result, I will not be taking my pets back to Oceanside.....after 15 years. read more

This vet sucks. Every single time I have taken my dog and my cat, I saw a different vet. Which is so not personal. These vets know nothing about me nor my pets bc a different vet sees them every time. And they make it difficult to see the same vet every time. Bc most are not the resident vet. I really don't think they have one. So needless to say I dislike this vet. I recommend everyone to not go here if your looking for a vet who knows you and your pet. This vet has so many vets that they just read what the last vet wrote. You go by a chart? How do you know anything about my dog by something another wrote about him. And sorry but those records only say what they did. Not what was said and done and discussed. So I pulled my records from them and am looking into a different vet that will be the only get to see my pets and actually get to know them. Not at like it's just another dollar to make. Idk why I went here when I didn't like it when is was the Ohlandt get. But being he wasn't there I thought it would be better. Apparently not, they still all about the dollar then the pets. They are horrible service and I feel like they don't care about me nor my pets. read more

This place was really good, I took this cat friend of mine in there because she had a nice a big gash on her and they got me in for a same day appointment no hassle and I thought the price was very reasonable. I don't think it was the cheapest possible that place but certainly not the most expensive and very fair. The place was well staffed and extremely clean and everybody was super nice. We love you guys!!!! Thanks for taking such good care of our past & present dogs & most recently Jackson. He's our beautiful hound mutt & was having new onset seizures at 8 years old. You ALL were so kind to see him two days in a row without an appointment. You gave us great advice & started him on some fast acting medication and now it has been 2 days with no more seizures. Thank you for being so kind to him & for being able to work us in so quickly!!!! If only you took care of potbelly pigs too, then we'd be in heaven. You never feel hurried and all of the vets are young and eager and abreast of latest research. These guys took over a very loved and revered clinic owned by Johnny Ohlandt. I simply can't say enough good things about Oceanside veterinary clinic. The staff and vets are absolutely fantastic! I have seen all of the vets at some point in my 3 years, and we are currently sticking with Dr. Nicole Fortin, although Dr. Lewandowski and Dr. Gipe have also been wonderful! All of the staff is knowledgeable and incredibly caring. They remember me and both of my pups every time we stop by. They are always available if you need to call with a question, and they follow up on every animal's appointment. They are great at explaining your dog's medical problems without being condescending. Oceanside is a bit more expensive than other vets, but you definitely get what you pay for. I've had to bring my dog in a few days after a spay/neuter (just because of my paranoia and some swelling) and wasn't charged to have the vet check over them quickly and adjust their pain meds/antibiotics. I've compared the incision site from my female dog's spay to others I saw online (was attempting to determine what was "normal" so I would know what to watch for if anything changed) and there was no comparison. My dog had internal dissolving stitches and skin glue on the surface to leave absolutely no opportunity for infection to get in. Her surgery left no visible scar and was practically invisible the day I brought her home. I will continue going to Oceanside for all of my dog's needs because I want to support a veterinary practice that is so wonderful to my dogs. They truly care about every animal and every customer! read more

Our cat DJ injested something toxic, and Dr. Gipe and the wonderful staff at Ohlandt Veterinary practice did a wonderful cost-effective job of reversing his liver problems, flushing his system, treating the infection he had developed and getting him rehydrated. Within 2 days he returned home and now another 3 days later treatment appears to have worked completely and he is back to his old self. Thanks so much! When we arrived in James Island six months ago, our first priority was to find a good vet. Our beloved rescue corgi, Sophie, had been diagnosed with diabetes over 3 years earlier and was showing signs of DM (disc myelopathy) and was quickly losing the ability to walk. The prognosis isn't good. Ohlandt Clinic and Dr. Lewandowski provided friendly attentive care from day one to help us maintain Sophie's quality of life and when we recently made the heartbreaking decision to have her put down, the staff and Dr. L did everything to make the process go smoothly and comfortably for both her and us. I can't say enough about the sensitivity they showed us during this difficult time and how they treated this end of life decision. It's obvious they care about their animal patients and the families. Imoved here from Reno, Nevada at the first of the year. I have (to me) my prcious dog Buddy. He is a beutilful Papillon but fragile. He doesn't even weigh 6lbs. He broke his front right leg after I bathed him and was drying him on the counter he jumped down on a tile floor. After surgery and 3 months healing almost complete my neighbor dropped him while letting him out of his crate and trying to return him to said crate. Thence broken leg again, surgery another 3 months and total of $7,000 dollars later he is fully recovered and it is 2 years later. After all the stress of that whole ordeal I am very protective of my little guy and I take very good care of his health and well being. I moved here and one the first things I did was retain a vet. I asked so many neighbors and EVERYONE recommended Ohlandt. I went there right after I arrived, gave them his whole file and history and they are all fantastic there. They were very polite and caring and professional. I have since taken him there to have his teeth cleaned and get his shots and meds for the fleas and ticks. I cannot tell you how much of a relief it is to know a vet group that is so highly recommemded and close! read more

Being new to the area, we were looking for a new vet to address an injury that occurred to my dog's paw during our move. I called a couple of offices and stopped at a couple as well before settling on this one. The staff here was polite yet very welcoming and patiently answered all of my (many) questions. Since my dog can be somewhat reactive, it is important to me that his care givers handle him appropriately. Not only did they reassure me before we even got there that they would welcome him (behavior issues and all lol), they handled him perfectly. Their comfort at handling him put both myself and him at ease. Yes, he was still nervous but the wag of his tail and his enthusiasm at taking the treats from the technician told me all I needed to know. I was pleased with Dr Justin's thorough assessment, treatment recommendations, and bedside manner. Their phone etiquette, website, and cleanliness of facility were also factors in my decision to come here. My family (furry ones too) plan on being here for a long time and are looking forward to developing a relationship with the veterinarians here as well as their staff! read more
