I had heard nothing but wonderful things about NWWSC, and as I was seeking a safe, women-centered program, I decided to sign up with Lexie for a weekend camp with NWWSC. After meeting up with Lexie and Dennis at a reasonable time Sat. morning, and making sure we all had the correct gear, we made our way to our surf spot, a gorgeous Shangri-la of a beach, south of Seaside. We started off our lesson at an overlook by learning how to read the waves, what to look for when picking out your spot, and how to best time your session. Once we were on the beach, we continued covering all the essentials that would make for a safe first experience in the waves. I loved the pre-surf yoga she led us through, something I had never done on the beach, and a much needed warm-up to help us become more flexible and avoid injury. Once we had practiced some dry-runs of the essential 'pop-up', we were ready to head out to the water. I felt well-prepared and gave it my all, but I had some difficulty figuring out whether I was regular foot or goofy, and spent too much time on Saturday sorting it out. I was a bit discouraged as I watched the other women in our group sail past me, but I wasn't going to give up, and neither was Lexie. With her glowing positive attitude and encouraging personalized direction, she gently continued to push me a little farther. On the second day, when I finally stood up for my first wave, we both howled out loudly in unison! My first experience with Lexie at NWWSC was 2 yrs. ago. Since then, I've bought my first board, sought out and enjoyed surf spots all along the PNW coast, and treated myself to a vacation of warm water surfing in Hawaii. Me and my three closest surfer-girl buddies (all who have trained with Lexie) enjoyed an epic private coaching session with her last year, where she continued to push us and brought us to the 'outside'. When my daughter is ready, I will be eager to sign us up for a mother-daughter session with Lexie, as I know she will provide the kind, empowering mentorship my girl will need to ignite her stoke. After my first surf camp weekend, life has never been the same. I surfed all last weekend, will surf with my honey to celebrate our anniversary this weekend, and can't wait for another surfer-girl getaway in just a couple of weeks! I am eternally grateful for Lexie and NWWSC for giving me that initial stoke and all the essentials to safely enter the sport, and for all the fun, challenge, and excitement surfing has brought to my life.

Worst surf shop experience I've ever had! We took our business to Seaside surf shop who were very helpful, friendly and made our morning better. Great rental rates! My partner and I went to rent boards from him and check out his shop. He payed little attention to us and was passive aggressive when answering questions. We were inquiring about renting wetsuits and boards from him, so he took our credit card information and charged our card. While going through the rental process we quickly realized we did not want to rent from this guy because of his attitude and we generally just felt off. My partner simply asked him if he could refund his card because changed our minds, and the owner started yelling at him. He said that we waisted an hour of his time and yelled at us to get out of his shop and said that my partner "got in his face". He then proceeded to aggressively get in my partners face and tell us how rude we are. He slammed his shop door and told us he wasn't giving us our money back. Since then, we have spoken to people in the Newport community that have heard similar stories and the he is not a good member of the south beach community. They have urged us to leave reviews because Russel apparently has been threatening people by text/email to take down any bad reviews. Please do not go to this shop and give him business.

Google, Apple Maps, and their website all had totally different business hours. Their own website even has 2 different working hour infos... Definitely will never do business with them. On the bright side, I ended up going to Seaside in Oregon to a surf shop called "seaside surf shop". It was an extra hour drive but at least they had everything we needed and helped us out immediately. That's what a good surf shop does.

They clearly expected us to last maybe 2 hours tops. They gave us good direction as far as where to ride and where on the sand to stay. They gave us one bike with an adjustable seat, and one that was not adjustable. They adjusted it to fit my son, but didn't tighten it enough to keep it in place. By the time we got to the beach it was all the way down with no way to fix it. It was a very windy day, which is part of the beach experience, but it was much harder given that we are tall and the bike was too small. I felt like we were not given all the information we needed. I would not rent the bikes again.

They genuinely care about you have a great experience so they recommend spots and give you some helpful tips and fun information. They went surfing at the spot Point Break was filmed and a small part of Twilight. The price is excellent. The whole package for the two of them was about 140.00 for the entire day to rent the boards and full gear. We will continue to go back every time we visit and get our annual Cleanline hoodies.
