These guys have hands down the best, most dedicated surf shop you could ask for. I live in Del Mar,…read moreCA now and more than a few shops down here could learn how to take care of the surf community the way that they do. I used to surf Pacific City when I lived in OR and these guys support and promote the local, dedicated surf culture with heart and soul. This year they were able to ship a Nixon/Andy Davis collaboration to watch to me for my wife within three days of Christmas when NOONE else could. Superheroes. For real. Support Moment Surf Shop.

I grew up in Tillamook County, so I don't take leaving a review like this about a local business…read morelightly. But what happened with my sister at Moment Surf Company today really bothered me. My sister is paralyzed from the waist down and uses a wheelchair. When we arrived, a rolling clothing rack was sitting on the ramp that provides wheelchair access to the store. With the rack there, she physically could not get inside. I had to move it so she could enter. As soon as I walked in, I told the employees that I had moved the rack and explained why. Jeff, the owner, was standing at the counter during this conversation, and we made direct eye contact while I explained what had happened. He did not acknowledge the issue, apologize, or make any effort to ensure the accessible entrance remained clear. What happened next is the part I find hardest to excuse. When we left, we got into her car and looked back at the storefront. The clothing rack was already back in the same place on the ramp. I could completely understand someone putting a rack there without realizing what they were blocking. Mistakes happen. But once the owner and employees of a business have been specifically told that their merchandise is preventing a wheelchair user from entering the store, it is no longer an oversight. After we left, I started looking through older photographs of the storefront. I found Google photos dating back as far as 10 years, along with photos posted by Moment Surf Company itself, repeatedly showing a clothing rack in this same area of the accessible entrance. The photos make one thing clear: using this area for merchandise displays is not something that started today. Moment Surf Company has been operating here since 2010. After more than 16 years in business, I think it is entirely reasonable to expect the owner of a retail business open to the public to understand that providing an accessible route also means keeping it accessible. This is not simply my opinion about what a business should do. Title III of the Americans with Disabilities Act applies to businesses open to the public and requires accessible features to be maintained in usable condition. U.S. Department of Justice guidance on 28 C.F.R. § 36.211 explains that accessible routes must remain usable and free from obstructions. What makes this even more frustrating is how easy the problem is to fix. There is open space to the left of the entrance where the rack could be placed without interfering with wheelchair access. There is simply no reason to use the accessible route as retail display space. My sister has been surfing for years. I'm including a photo of her surfing because perhaps some people simply never stop to consider that wheelchair users surf too. But she should not have to be a surfer for any of this to matter. Had I not been with her today, she would not have been able to enter the store on her own. A wheelchair user should not need another person with them to move a business's merchandise out of the way just to get through the front door. I genuinely hope Moment takes this seriously and permanently changes this practice. The solution could not be simpler: keep the accessible route clear so the next person using a wheelchair can enter the store just like everyone else.

Sometimes trees get too big for the spo,t or too old, or a weather event battles them. FMI is the regional source for professional arborists and you can shop there too. It is a level up from the hardware store for clippers, saws, and some yard maintenance tools. They are the source for the awesome Hasagawa three leg orchard ladders. They are made in Japan with the most beautiful welds. They are aluminum - very lightweight to carry. They are beautiful. They do have the expensive, lifetime guaranteed, Felco pruners from Switzerland. If you climb rocks for fun - think Smith Rock - they have a larger selection of climbing ropes, ascenders, descenders, and harnesses than any local outdoor store. Petzl is their main brand. They also have arborist belts from Buckingham. If you need long rope, they can provide it up to 600 feet. They have a huge indoor warehouse by their showroom. They have a large lot filled with machinery. If you were a landscaping company or a tree service company they have machines for you to buy. They have grinders, skids, lift trucks and more. The staff is knowledgeable but they are used to dealing with professionals, not so much homeowners.
