Our daughter has been going to OSS since she was just 6 weeks old and is now in the two year old class. She has learned so much from being in this school, we can actually see it has helped advance her learning compared to other kids her age. Absolutely incredible. She seems to come home each day with a new skill or knowledge about a new topic and we could not feel more comfortable and secure with where we drop our child off for daycare each day. Most days when we pick her up, she literally does not want to leave she is having such a fun time with her friends and loving teachers. The facility is clean with many new updates, and the curriculum they cover is incredibly rich as well. What we love most of all though are the teachers. Each and every teacher is so caring and genuine, accommodating each child's unique needs around learning and experiencing new emotions as they grow. Miss Manal is one of our daughter's dearest teachers and continues to shower her with love each day! All of the teachers, including Shams the owner, share such professionalism and genuine passion for caring for these children, they are amazing and feel like an extension of our family at this point. Another thing that I've noticed is unique about Oceanside Shining Stars is their super active use of the Brightwheel app. It really makes me feel connected to my daughter throughout the day when I receive updates of all her activities, meals and even diaper changes in real time! As a new mom of an infant in daycare, this really helped ease my mind and to this day continues to warm my heart seeing photos and videos of all my daughter's fun activities throughout each day. After spending weeks touring many local daycares and other Montessori schools in Oceanside, the minute I stepped into Miss Komal's classroom I knew this was the place for us. I've never felt so uplifted in a pre-school environment- filled with natural materials, and seemingly endless educational activities for children to explore independently. It is a true gift to have Miss Komal's 30 years of experience educating young minds. I love that our daughter learns about other cultures, countries and traditional celebrations around the world. This school feels like a second family and we wish we could stay here forever & preserve the magic that is Montessori education. The outdoor classroom spaces are so vary special!! I can't tell you how important it is to us to have our daughter spending so much time outside with new scientific studies now confirming how important outdoor time is for developing minds and for mental health. And the scheduled dance classes and yoga sessions that the children get to participate in weekly are creating a love for physical movement and health. The additional presence of the classroom chickens (who get to roam around!), the classroom Tortoise and parakeets brings joy and delight to this very special school experience. We look forward to the seasonal rhythms of hatching eggs in the spring, watching the chicks grow all summer, and year round outside field trips to visit horses, farms, ecological preserves, music schools, botanical gardens and more! It feels like magic to witness my daughter and her class mates rolling out their mats, selecting a school work task or game, playing peacefully & then responsibly rolling up and returning their mats when they're done! Just thought I'd share my experience with others so they aren't surprised. I've had people ask me what I thought about Highland and I've told them, so it seemed fitting to make it public to warn people. Now you are making things up. No profanity was used. How did you even come up with that? You weren't there. Did she make that up or did you? And what disrespect are you talking about? Me being mad? Yes, I was mad, but there was no disrespect. Raising my voice a little out of frustration that I had just told the teacher about my kid's reflux, then less than an hour later I had to pick her up for what you even confirmed was spit up? I missed my deadline and had to rearrange my whole week because of that. You told me I could bring my kid back that same day once you confirmed that the teacher didn't even know what spit up is (yet she is watching 10+ kids all day long). But I refused because I had been called so many times to pick up my child in the past. My kid has since been at another preschool and I haven't been called a single time to pick her up. If anything, your school and the teacher had a clear disrespect of my time and my job on many occasions when you would call me and require me to pick up my kid for silly reasons. Can any other reviewers confirm that this has happened to them as well? I am sure there are some that would say so themselves. I totally understand what I committed to when registering. I didn't know that my kid would be sent home again, and after so many times, I just had enough. I asked for a refund of the deposit, but you refused despite the mistake on your staff's part. That's ok. I figured since that is the case, then an honest review is fair.

As soon as we toured Highland, I knew we had found our place. The teachers are so incredibly kind and nurturing, and the Reggio Emilia play-based philosophy they follow is so wonderful. We love how much outdoor time our daughter gets, and she loves telling us about everything she's learning. In addition to the classrooms, there is a garden, mud kitchen, art atelier, and critters for the kids to play with / learn about including Tortilla the tortoise and Larry the chinchilla. Our daughter has been there for nearly a year now and we just couldn't be more pleased. As a mom, it's so important to trust the school and caregivers that interact with your child/children, and Highland is a truly wonderful place to send your kids.
