It is such a joy to walk into a…read morehardware store and say....I need one of these thingys for a thingy like that, that I am hooking to this other thingy......and they know exactly what you are talking about. I can tolerate Lowes occasionally and Home Depot only if I am desperate. Its amazing how most of these small stores still have everything you need, and if for some reason they don't, they know exactly what the real name of the thingy is your trying to find. Parking here is street and about 4 spots in the back.

Visit Date: December 7, 2024…read more This visit revolves around a kind employee and a much needed bathroom for my son. I have an 8 year old. When he has to go, he's got to go. I was driving with him and he had to pee. A gas station denied us a bathroom, CVS in Baldwin Harbor on Atlantic Ave denied us a bathroom and I yelled at them. So we walked into Ace. The employee said their bathroom was also down but that my son could use the employee bathroom. So I got my kid to the bathroom forever grateful to the Ace employee behind the counter. I don't know his name, but he deserves some kind of recognition and award for his kindness. After my son used the restroom we looked around and I ended up buying a candy bar just to give the store some business in return for their kindness. The employee was also extra nice because he listened to my son prattle on about our bathroom saga lol Ace I'm forever grateful to you!

Just as like many local businesses in these times, they seem to be undergoing a bit of a staffing shortage at the moment, so patience is key if you're in a rush. Major shoutout to Lisa. She was my local superhero the other day. She saw me combing the isles and asked if I needed help. I told her what I needed and she then managed to cut the highest gauge chain they had available, using the stores finicky hydraulic cutting machine. At about 4 feet worth, it felt as heavy duty as my Kryptonite New York Fahgettaboudit Chain that I currently have wrapped around my moped. And for only $29, t'was significantly cheaper. Oh and they never yell at me when I walk around the store with my bike or electric scooter in tow.

When she asked about the order, an older gentleman working there barked orders at her, telling her to move her car to the back of the store so they could load it -- there was no politeness or professionalism at all. Then, the younger employee who loaded the order just threw the heavy bags into the car with no care, risking damage to the bags and the vehicle. To make things worse, the same older gentleman yelled from inside the store for my wife to come back and sign off on the order. The entire experience was handled in a rude, disrespectful, and unprofessional manner from start to finish. I later called the store and spoke with the manager, Michael, to share how disappointed I was. Unfortunately, this experience was bad enough that we will not be returning or ordering from Ace Hardware again. It's unfortunate, because we expected a much better level of customer service from a company like Ace.
