My husband and I arrived at about 3pm on Saturday where upon we were instantly met by a waitress (who had got up from a table where she was eating her own lunch) to seat us and provide us with menu's accompanied with a bread basket and olives. The restaurant was not particularly busy at this time only a large group seated near the counter area who seemed to be having a good time. I noticed *2 plasma screens one at each end of the restaurant showing the Benfica / Maritimo FC. game, the volume was turned down to allow for the background music which was a mixture of Portuguese/Angolan to be heard. I also noticed the wheel chair friendly slope leading into the restaurant from the street, this obviously made it easier for families bringing their toddlers in buggies to dine. I decided on a plate of mussels and a glass of Super bock, my husband just a Super bock. The service so far was good and attentive. When my food arrived it looked and tasted delicious, so much so, that my husband used some bread to wipe up the sauce as he could no longer resist the aroma. I noticed couples coming and going for food and drink over the next few hours. At about 6pm, the waitress began to set up tables with 'Reserve' signage upon them, nearly 3/4 of the restaurant was designated in this way. It was evident that where we were seated was in their prime reserve area and so we offered to move to a table nearest the window, which the waitress was grateful for. The ambiance of the restaurant was good, it was also evident that a large percentage of Customers were either extended family of the owners or loyal regulars, as they interacted with each other so easily. We had been casually drinking since 3pm and it was now about 8.30pm the time seemed to fly by, the restaurant was filling up now and people were actually being turned away quite frequently because they had not pre-booked. We felt quite lucky and decided to order dinner. I ordered Bean soup (soup of the day) followed by Pork/ clams with potatoes, my husband had monkfish skewer with squid and prawns followed by steak with mushroom sauce topped with an egg and spinach. The food was very good with plenty of taste, the additional staff had plenty to do but were always polite and attentive. When we decided to leave, after having spent 7 hours just lazily passing the day away the bill amounted to £80 for the 2 of us, which I feel was very reasonable. I will be visiting this restaurant again. read more
