He actually mustered up the humour to say that my wisdom teeth were a "ticking time bomb." That left me very worried, but since I was told this information a week before school started again, I put this off until the end of the semester. Since I usually get most of my dental work done during my visits to Hong Kong (since most of my patient files are still there), I was at a loss for who I should see for wisdom teeth removal. It didn't help that my parents were also warning me that I may experience permanent nerve damage should the operation went wrong. Quite predictably, the recommendation for Dr. Chow came from the family dentist (in Vancouver), who without hesitation, issued a referral to Dr. Chow, reassuring me that Dr. Chow is one of the best in the field in Vancouver. He wasn't kidding. Dr. Chow is incredibly efficient, from the initial consultation to the subsequent operation, he was always very assuring, and took the time to form concise and informative answers to the concerns that I had. I should also mention that he managed to remove all four of my wisdom teeth in half an hour, which seems really fast. I was unfortunate enough to have a complication of a swollen jaw, which prevented me from closing my mouth for about a week following the surgery- that made talking quite difficult, and they "Why the long face?" cropped up in pretty much every conversation with family, but Dr. Chow's staff of nurses were incredibly helpful throughout the process, having provided reminders before the consultation and operation, and even managed to decipher what I was trying to ask them over the phone following the operation, when my jaw was completely swollen. To explain how hard that is, imagine not being able to make a "sh-, ch-, t-" sound when you're talking. I would say I'd come again, but considering how this is a dental practice, that's probably a bad thing, so the best I can do is recommend Dr. Chow for dental surgery.

I met with Dr. Sadeghi for a consultation the day of my surgery. Much to my surprise, he was a super happy and upbeat character who was quick to answer any of my questions and put my worries at ease. Rather than checking the same X-rays first, he did a new set of X-rays and this incurred an unnecessary charge. The receipt I then received had incomplete information so it was difficult to file a claim. Returned today for a new consult. I arrived 5 mis prior, waited 20 minutes at reception and then another 25 mins in a chair. If I had not said something about waiting for 45 minutes, I could still be waiting. No one alerted me that Dr. Birdy was running late and so I just sat there wasting my time. I get emergencies, but the decent thing is to acknowledge the delays. I do not have confidence in this practice. The people there may be talented but book on the assumption that your time will not be respected.

He explains the procedures extremely well - before and, most importantly for me, while he's performing them. I don't get overly nervous about going to the dentist, just a bit tense, but knowing what's going on with the procedure really helps. I also really appreciate not being lectured (as I have been with other dentists) about not going in as soon as I felt there was something wrong with my tooth (the extracted one). Surprisingly, I'm not at all worried about going in for an implant (I'll update after I get it). The rest of the staff have also been really friendly. The reception staff are very welcoming. At first, I was really anxious and nervous because I had a painful experience with another tooth removal from somewhere else. Dr. Chau's staff on the phone reassured me and outlined me the options and pricing, regarding sedation or no sedation and put me at ease. The ladies at his front desk were so professional, patient and kind with me on the phone and in-person. In the end, I opted for no-sedation last minute because my dental insurance ran out so I had to save money as I am not employed anymore (lost my job due to Covid staffing cuts). Dr. Chau's front desk staff and a nurse were so kind and professional to me. I felt very welcome there. When it was time for my tooth removal, I was very nervous. Dr. Chau talked me through the removal, he said "I'm going to do this, and I will do this" and then in literally 2 seconds, he said, "Ok and it is out." I said, "What? That's it?" I was so surprised at how fast and smooth the extraction happened! I recommend to everyone that it is better if you get your tooth removed by an oral surgeon, since they have the expertise to do it correctly and quickly. I wish I had chosen an oral surgeon earlier like Dr. Chau to remove my other tooth too.
