I called the office and was told I can choose the next four to five spots that they were open, but I'm lying. They appeared to be taken. From the pictures online it looks like the beach and ocean are close, they are not!!! There are several bushes that block your view, and if you wanted to walk to the ocean you would have a very long walk. Spaces on the concrete and spaces on the electrical boxes do not match up. The spaces are gravel with a makeshift 2' fence placed in between each trailer. I think it was about $45 a night which was a breath of fresh air compared to others. Oh! This campground is not within walking distance of the harbor or shops like I seen somewhere. It's a short drive.

Ingvar moved on and the park suffered because the gal, Lisa who took her place is incompetent and talks rude to guests depending on her mood. They took accommodations away from the long-term guests and are very dishonest... Lisa bad mouths and gossips about the guests with other guests and slanders the company. My husband took a Dr.s recommended permission to use the showers which the Mngmnt demanded . He is disabled and required more space to shower as his condition worsened after we were there more than a year. Then they changed the pass codes without telling him on a Friday... no notice or explanation were provided. On the following Monday when we inquired why they locked him out Trish told him it was because I used the women's shower. When Trish gave Me the new code she said it was for " You guys" (my husband and I ). In writing! Then she refused to answer my calls and emails, even running away from me to avoid talking with me. (Very odd ) I cannot believe we were paying for extra dumpsters because the maintenance guy; Ray was throwing building materials and old tables , shelves and beds in our appointed dumpster. I suggested a community meeting and then Kelly lost his shower rights! People were leaving and moving away because the behavior of Lisa and increased rent and utilities were out of control. This is only the tip of the iceberg but enough to let everyone know what they may be stepping in if they stay there now.

No problems with theft or undesirables knocking on my door late at night or snooping. The John Steinbeck comparison is fine and the wonderful sound of the fog horn and sea lions barking makes for pleasant white noise when I fall asleep each night.... I highly recommend this campground perfect for those adventurers needing a place to rest their heads on a whim at the spur of the moment. That's how I discovered Grassy Flat Campground. I was driving along my cross country summer road trip and needed a place to crash for the evening. As usual and during so many times along my travels, I opened up the app on my phone called CAMPENDIUM! I also recommend to all those campers and tourists out there who appreciate sleeping among the great outdoors, definitely download Campendium. It's free to use and as long as you have cell phone reception...it'll always list the available campsites within any area in the United States. Campendium was my saving grace from my road trip!! Grassy Flat Campground was so convenient. When I arrived here over the summer, it was basically first come, first served. You don't need reservations. It was about 4pm in the afternoon when I found one of the last remaining campsites still unoccupied. Wow...I was grateful for this because along this area of Highway 199 and around the Redwood Forest section...I found accommodations to be few and far between. Lol, basically, I was grateful I wasn't crashing in my car for the night. And for me...I had just visited Crater Lake and was making my way south from Oregon. Grassy Flat was situated just outside the Hiouchi Visitor Center (about 14 miles away) great for starting my Redwood Parks itinerary. In terms of location, Grassy Flat Campground was ideal! Being just off the road of Highway 199 and not far away from the major town of Crescent City...it felt comforting knowing I was nearby a place to get gas, food and supplies continuing along my trip. Now to describe Grassy Flat Campground...it was scenic...right in the heart of the forest and woods! I felt like I was breathing in nothing but fresh air enjoying nature at it's finest! When pulling into my campsite...it had a fire-pit for barbecuing and a picnic table set beside random trees. I sincerely appreciated relaxing and taking in the authentic camping surroundings. It's simple $10 fee to camp for the night. You have to pay immediately upon choosing a campsite. You can pay by check if you don't have the exact amount of $10. Then just drop it into the safe/drop box. There wasn't a Camp Host on the grounds, but I guess they go by the honor system. They do offer portable toilets. Although the porter potties weren't the cleanest...they were certainly sufficient enough to make it through the night, lol. My one and only deterrent about this Grassy Flat Campground (and it's a small one) was that I didn't have cell phone reception...to sort of play on my phone and entertain myself. But it was still perfectly fine not using my phone as I easily sat back in my lounge chair and enjoyed being in the woods. Ya know, it's times like these when you go back to the basics, that I truly appreciated the simple things in life. So...not having cell phone reception was a blessing in disguise...a chance for me to reset my engine and put into perspective that I was about to witness some of the tallest trees in the world! Overall, I can't recommend Grassy Flat Campground enough. It's a perfect spot to rest for the night, especially for those getting ready to start their Redwood Forest journeys (assuming they're coming from the north and headed south, lol).
