came on a tuesday afternoon and had such a peaceful walk on the trails here. it's a moderate walking path with super scenic views. at the beach down below there's some decent tide pooling spots where you can see crabs anemones and fish and other sea life. it's easy enough of a trail where most everyone can do it, but difficult enough where it feels like pretty good exercise. loved that we didn't see too many people walking when we came, it made it much easier to enjoy the quiet while being in nature

    Absolutely stunning view

We as a family had a great time was not too hard for my smaller children . There was easy parking / bathroom and great views

We came here for a new years hike and a lot of other people had the same idea! There is free parking and clean restrooms. The trail was nice, we can stay by the dirt path or walk down to the beach and watch the ocean waves up close. Very nice walk and plenty of photo opportunities.

An amazing hike overall. Slight incline in small parts but very doable! Beautiful ocean views. It's about a 2.6 mile course. I like how there are picnic tables for families to stop and eat.

The good: This is an AMAZING and unique trail with breathtaking ocean views and a PAVED trail walkway. The first part of the trail coincides with pathways for different holes in the Trump golf course but it does eventually stray away from the golf course. There was plenty of free parking. There are trash cans along the trail and a bathroom at the parking area. The beach area has lots of great round and smooth rocks. The path is serene and tranquil. The ocean waves make a great splashing crash sound with all of the rocks. I'll definitely be coming back. We came during sunset and the soft hazy glow from the sun on this warm June day was really visually like a movie. It's places like these that remind me why I stay in California. The bad: Dogs (animals in general the sign said) aren't allowed on the beach area. It's pretty rocky. I still saw a dog there though. The interesting: It has many flat areas where the paved parts are but there are trail deviations on the dirt paths that lead downward the beaches. Some are steep and rocky and some are less steep.

Such a lovely view. It's a perfect spot for hiking, especially if you're new to it like I am. Not too steep and not too difficult.

Great moderate trail with outstanding ocean views. There is a large parking lot at the end of Rotunda Drive. Clean toilets at the start of the trail. 2 miles round-trip with about 500 feet elevation. The trail is well paved and smooth at the beginning, winding past the Trump National golf course. The path down to the beach is steep and strewn with rocks.

Extremely beautiful view of the ocean. The plants are diverse too and great for plant identification (use the app PlantNet!). Free parking in several areas since this is a protected park. You can also park if you navigate to Donald Trump golf course. Make America green again...?

We've been to this hiking spot a few years ago. It was an easy hike and the view was nice. Some sections have been closed such as the lighthouse area. The lighthouse looks old and outdated though. It had a lot of marine layers on that day; otherwise, we could enjoy a beautiful panoramic ocean view with nice weather. It would be great to go there close to sunset. Parking is free but limited. It's not a spectacular or incredible coastal view but it's alright.

Beautiful view, good walk with some up hill. A couple of tables to have a picnic! Free parking right in front of the Trump golf club. Loved it, definitely recommend.

Sunset Trail Hike in Palos Verdes Short, but semi-steep, trail from the Trump Golf Course to a beautiful stretch of beach with tide pools and wildflowers. We saw toddlers hiking and even some parents pushing strollers down though I wouldn't recommend it. For more socal adventures ideas: IG: @grace.loves.adventures

The main trail is about a mile long and runs parallel to the shore. Part of the path is paved and the rest is hard-packed earth and stones. As you're walking (or running) some of the main path is level but for the most part, you'll be in either a slight incline or decline attitude. Down and back will treat you to some beautiful views of the Pacific Ocean. To add to your journey, you can choose to branch off at specific points and add to your mileage and/or degree of difficulty. There are zig-zag paths down to the rocky coast below. You'll spot them as you walk along by the signs and openings in the fencelines. Some of these will give you more of a workout when you make your way back to the top. Watch your step because some of the areas are loose underfoot. At the far end of the trail, you can also follow the paths that lead away from the ocean for a loop through brush and some extra distance. There are a few ways to access the trail. One is along the golf course entrance road with a small parking lot set aside for hikers. Another is by taking the road a little further east of the golf course entrance (I think it's called La Rotonda Dr), following it to the end and there will be a parking lot on the right. Then just following the trail signs. Happy hiking.

Ninja does not trust the ocean behind us. Lol

I love this hiking spot. The views are gorgeous, the hikes are easy, you can scale down to the ocean and visit the tide pools and sit on the giant, black rock slabs that face the ocean. It's not an easy beach access, you will definitely have to walk down the side of the cliff trail. But once you are there... it's beautiful. It's really not a beach you would swim due to the rocks, but a great place to walk, have a picnic and enjoy a beautiful sunset or sunrise. Even the drive to this place is lovely. Just a two-way highway and beautiful sights. Parking is limited, but people are always coming and going, so you'll find a parking spot soon enough. There is no shade, so be prepared to have direct sunlight on you as you are walking.

Ask the Community - Ocean Trails

    Is there restrooms near by?

Yes the golf course has outdoor bathrooms near where the golf carts are parked

Hi . Is the trail open and is it kid (3&4 year old )friendly ? Any tips will be helpful and thank you :)

Absolutely- there is a wide grass area before the trails and part of the trails are paved and wide - perfect for kids and strollers. If you want to go down to the beach it's a little more steep but there is plenty of walking without those portions… Read more

    Are dogs allowed?

    Yes

    Where do I park?

Theres a parking lot right before the trail, where the bathrooms are.

How long does it take to finish?

It depends on the strollers you going to have very short trails that you can do in 30 minutes to an hour. But when I do it's a 2-mile trail. Or you can go for half a day if you'd like. It all depends on what you want to do

How many miles can you hike here? We're looking for 3-4 miles and hoping that's possible without looping back a bunch of times.

Depending on how you work it (a couple of different paths in one section) you can manage to get between 2 and 3 miles one way before you start heading back. If you use a couple of the steep paths that lead down to the shoreline you can get in even… Read more

However, I respect and truly admire that they added a cultural term to modern vocabulary: the Tardis Effect, which basically means that you enter a space and it is more spacious and complex than you can imagine based on what you believe it can hold based on exterior. Another example is Snoopy's Dog house. And as a final example, I offer a person's head. It does not seem like it holds a lot but it holds an ever expansive universe of thoughts, ideas and memories. This park can serve as another example of the Tardis Effect. It is a small park, like legit tiny, but when you look from its multiple view points you see the vastness of the pacific ocean and shore lines, which can induces so much within your head universe. Like one time I went and I imagined that a sea monster would rise from the waters far away. The sea monster was like Godzilla, except purple and its blast were white and froze people to death. Missiles could not quell its fury. I imagined that the solution would have to be mystical like when Perseus defeated the Kraken using Medusa's head. I repeat that the park is small by feet or metric cubes, or what ever unit of measure is used to measure a park's length, but when you enter you will see more than you expected, if you let yourself. I wonder what the opposite of the Tardis Effect is? What is something that is super big but when you step inside is actual small. Hopefully, a whale's belly cause I might end up there one day and wish to survive. If you are not one who embraces imaginative trips, this place offers something more grounded: beautiful views that are plainly gorgeous. When you allow yourself to sit and view, you want to take pictures, you want to have a date, you want to have a meaningful conversation, you want to meditate. It is a small gulp of fresh air that can be released into a big space. Logistically, parking is hard to come by. I am a local so I park on the street nearby and walk. I do not have a parking permit, I find street parking. The walk from the park to the car is not that long and depending on your fitness level it can be exhausting or a breeze. I went today to hike some of its neighboring trails. And the trails were closed. So expect this place to be a treat, if you are the type of person who can take the small of the earth and see the large of the earth.

We were the only people on the trail. It is a small one mile or so trail that combines with Indian Peak Trail and has a 55+ living community in between. The bad: The ground was wet even though it hasn't rained in a long time so there was a good amount of mud. It's mostly all in the sun and not too shady. There were a lot of small gnats. Part of the trail led to a cement wall with graffiti with a parking lot on the other side. The interesting: I parked across the street by the movie theater, but there is a small parking lot at the bottom of the trail at the entrance that does not say private parking.

I'm adding the listing with the RPV Indian Peak/Norris Center Dr. address but it might be auto adjusted. All that said, Vista Del Norte translates to "view of the north". And that's what it says on the sign: "panoramic views of the City of Los Angeles to the north". Too bad I didn't get to see those views yesterday, Sunday! As I was heading up a trail, a young couple coming down warned me of slippery conditions & showed me mud on their shoes as proof. Said they almost fell. There'd been heavy morning fog earlier & the trails are packed mud....so be forewarned. I took the other trail at their suggestion & went just halfway to the top. This is not a big serious hike, but more of an uphill walk on a narrow trail. The loop is probably less than a mile thru the 14-acre space. Right now the terrain is thick with dried brush, but I'm guessing the hillside will be covered with invasive yet beautiful yellow mustard in spring...at which time I'll be back..with my walking stick. I'm told there are benches at the top where you can sit a spell & enjoy views of the LA Basin. Healthier than hiking around TJ Maxx in the plaza across the street & far easier on the wallet for sure. Heed the posted rules: no bicycles, no horses. But....goats...yep. In May 2019, goats were used to clear brush, under supervision of course. I must have watched them for an hour from the street below, so adorable & entertaining. This eco-friendly method of brush clearance is used throughout the area, much to the delight of both goat herds & onlookers. Reserve hours are 1 hour before sunrise to 1 hour after sunset. Parking: Two free street spaces in front of the reserve entrance sign on Indian Peak Road. Or park in the adjacent, small Norris Pavillion (next to the fire station) lot if nothing's going on there. Or use the free parking structure across the street in Promenade on the Peninsula shopping center. Or, as I did, park in the huge empty (for now) lot where OSH used to be, now vacant. There's very little traffic in this area & no metered parking anywhere (gotta love it & I do) so parking is never an issue. Bring your camera & wear appropriate shoes. I'd advise sunscreen cuz it's an open area. Vista Del Norte Reserve: welcome to Yelp.

The instructions to get there can look a bit complicated bc there's just so much info? but literally you can just find the meetup spot on Google Maps now if you look up 'Rowher Flat OHV'. Maybe bc it wasn't on there before, but the page gives you very detailed instructions, even a video to guide you how to get there. Past Santa Clarita and into the mountains! You'll eventually go off roading and fair warning, it is quite bumpy. Low profile vehicles aren't recommended, and you'll see why lol. I also brought my tesla model 3 here while everyone else I passed by was in a bigger SUV vehicle car. It's nice to experience away from the busy city life. We were on time to our tour, but we wanted to make it out earlier since there was some time needed for prep. Our tour guide, Sagi (?), was super chill and a cool guy! I had no ATV experience whatsoever but I am so thankful for having him to guide us haha. During the ATV ride, we did request a "beginner/easy" path, but the route he took us was actually pretty challenging lol but very fun! It was basically like an obstacle course, but good mix of flat, bumps, inclines/declines, roundabouts, and I feel like we got to experience it all within an hour! Weather was also perfect during the time we went as well, just wore long sleeves and a vest. An hour was more than enough for this experience. The tour guide even will make stops for you to take photos! Overall, experience was great and definitely would do this again to explore another area! Prepare for all your clothes to be dusty.
