Unfortunately, some of these negative reviews are exaggerated or written by individuals who don't understand that having an popular Psych/Medical type of clinic means they stay busy. I have personally experienced some of the worst psychiatric care and Doctors in the Veteran's system so we came to Ocean Psychiatric for one of my daughters anxious about trusting anyone else. We both love Dr. Baxter in particular, she not only listens to my daughters needs, she's guided me on how to support her mental health needs. My insurance company messed up paperwork and she was quick to send additional info. The front staff is always busy when we go with customers on the phone as well in person that part rings true. Never do they just let the phone ring, I'm so happy with the care and testing they've done for my daughter,I came on yelp today to check out reviews for myself with anxiety. My advice is try them out and treat the staff as well as doctor with respect, if your unhappy, explain what you need don't rely on negative reviews alone! Some individuals might be a rude customer. It goes boy ways, we aren't all dream clients or patients. I worked customer service in the military and in the civilian sector but I don't work at Ocean and I will gladly recommend Ocean Psych. If your in a hurry at each appointment understand that sometimes they run long because a patient is late etc. That's only reason I gave a 4 star as opposed to 5 star review. Dr. Baxter is awesome, she even skipped lunch to see my daughter one day after a rough week. I'm posting this in 2019 so yes it's currently a good practice imho. If our experience changes I'll update. read more

Absolute scum of the world! I was referred to this place after I called today and they sent me to the wrong office because they haven't updated their building information on Google! Someone else was there too, just as confused about where their new office was. I called from the parking lot, asking for their updated address. Unbeknownst to me, I had actually missed my appointment--I was a day late because I was in the ER yesterday after having a heart attack. I explained this to the receptionist over the phone after they had already made me wait an entire month just to reschedule as a new patient. I've been going here since I was a kid and haven't been back in a long time. It makes sense why I've heard almost all the previous doctors and therapists who used to work there have left to join other practices. Whoever they have at their front desk now needs to be fired ASAP! I was practically sobbing in my car, begging them to help me and see if they could get me in sooner. The woman on the phone wouldn't even pass the message along to my doctor. Instead, she accused me of trying to cut ahead of other patients and put words in my mouth. She even had the nerve to ask why I wanted her to inform my doctor in the first place. I have disabilities--I have cerebral palsy and a speech impediment--and this is no way to treat special needs patients. I don't understand how a psychiatric group can treat people with such a lack of compassion and understanding--especially after a patient has been hospitalized for a heart attack. The fact that she refused to even relay that information to my doctor is beyond unacceptable. Thank God they're not going to bill me. If they were, I would sue! read more

The staff is nasty rude all round from the front office , billing to to office manger !! Aren't there for the patient at all !!! They don't return phone calls or even answer the phone !! You can call for days and nothing return call back from . They are so nasty to the patient . They over charge you for visit and over charge your insurance too !! It took me several months to get my bills straight . 1 because they never ever answer the phone & do send the correct stuff to the insurance !!! You call to try to pay the bill ... nope they don't answer ! They can't even get there billing correct ! They charge you no show fees of $60 for appointments that you didn't even have ! They lie and steal from the patients & the insurance !!! read more

Hope you like SSRI withdrawal. Have had it for a week and a half. The office will never answer your calls. The after hours only tells the office to call you. They never do. Finally got an email and a voicemail this morning. So either go back to playing phone tag and more withdrawal symptoms or just find a new spot. The latter is best at this point. Go somewhere else please. You deserve to actually get your medications. Withdrawal can be dangerous and even life threatening in many cases. Not worth risk. read more

We came here in January 2019 because it was the only psychiatric group that took our insurance and didn't have a 3 month wait... we found out why. The office staff has been unhelpful, sarcastic and just plain rude. They don't seem to know what they're doing. Oh, and forget calling for anything. The phone system is an awful robotic sounding voice and you have to listen to 5 minutes of info you don't need before it gives you options... and when you push #3 it ALWAYS ends up going to voice mail.. and you may get a call back by closing, maybe not. Now, providers have been nice, if you can get one that sticks around long enough to get to know them. We have seen 4 psychiatrists/NPs since starting here - they've ALL left or ended up not accepting our insurance. How can you connect with someone and gain confidence in them if they up and leave? Tells you that even they don't want to be there. The first one we went to see didn't take our insurance even though they said he did when I called, so they set us up with a NP. She was nice, but perpetually late calling us back (like 30+ minutes, once it would've been 2 hours, but we left) and several times we had to leave because we couldn't wait (I have a young child that I refuse to make sit there for an extra hour because you messed up/ran over). Our third we saw once, she wrote us a prescription and left. Now we are supposed to see a fourth but I never got an appointment confirmation, so i don't even know who this person is or when we are seeing them. I called but... had to leave a message. This is by far the worst customer service of any health facility I've ever encountered. I'm currently searching for a new practice. read more

Absolutely the worst psychiatric "help" I've ever seen. NEVER answers the phone, doctors threaten you with psych hospital if you don't listen, and they purposely withhold medicines from you without reason. This place needs to be shut down!!! Idk how people can deal with a place like this. read more

I was in need of a good psychiatrist This was definitely the place..The SSA contacted me to get my own records. The SSA said they had put on. hold got disconnected and and than it rang 5 or 6..no one cares there MS PHAM DOESNT read more

Excessively rude staff. Consistent dosage errors and poor communication with insurance resulting in going without medication frequently. If by some miracle you actually get someone to pick up the phone, they are contradict what your provider tells you and are dismissive to any concerns you might have. But 99% of the time they don't answer calls...If you have the option, go anywhere else but here. read more

Do NOT go to Oceans Psychiatric. They never answer their phones. Even when you call their after hours service and get through and tell them IT'S F'IN URGENT they call you the next day. They won't. So you have to physically go up to the practice and NO ONE is on the phone! Why can't I ever get through I've been calling since MONDAY! Horrible patient service. read more

Extremely unprofessional staff! For instance, I had to wait a month to be seen by a nurse & The Very Day of the appointment I was told that the nurse I was to see could not see me because they didn't want to step on the toes of the nurse who had seen me prior. Keep in mind, I waited a month to be seen & then was called the Day of the appointment & told that I would have to see another nurse. The appointment setter said it would be another 3 weeks before I could be seen. She was very rude and had Zero empathy. Also, I am not a new patient. I have been utilizing their services for several years now. I tried to have them fill my prescriptions to the date of the new appointment since I have been out, but they would not. I'm telling you straight, if you are looking for a psychiatry service that cares, Do Not go to Ocean Psychiatric Group!! The receptionists are rude & robotic, & the nurses Definitely set the example. A real shame! Most assuredly, they are in the wrong profession. read more

It's a good thing that I like the nurse practitioner I see at this practice because if I didn't I would fully withdraw them from my care. The office staff is a worthless and it never answer the phone even when they do answer the phone and they are rude and unhelpful I have tried all day to cancel my doctors appointment and yet no one answers the phone there is no reason I should have to call four times throughout the day to try and cancel my appointment I even tried to send an email to cancel the appointment to no avail this is ridiculous read more

They complain when you don't pay your bill, but you can't because there billing system does not work. Run away....

Leaving 1 star because I have called multiple times, no one answers, and then you wait about 5 minutes and leave a message. I've left multiple messages, no one has called me back. Do they want your business? I don't understand. read more

If Sharon, the psychiatrist, was as interested in her clients as she is her clothes, Im sure she could be amazing. First, she had me get the genetic test then had no idea I had done it. Second, put me on a medication without consulting said genetic test, wanted to take me off the medication without looking at the test all of which said I needed a higher dose. Third, I complained of EXTREME vision loss which I am still experiencing and she brushed it off. Told me to see a neurologist. Fourth, the neurologist saw me and within 15 mins said my vision loss symptoms were listed under severe reactions and immediately started a regiment to get me off the medication safely. Fifth, I became incredibly ill with a antibiotic resistant form of strep throat. Could barely breathe or speak. I missed an appt but had a note I was at the drs that day for it. She charged me for the missed appt and refuses to waive the fee. I have never had a drs office not be understanding that life happens and I have been a loyal patient despite what now is alarmingly obvious of willful negligence on her part. Lastly, her office staff is rude. I have called 4 times to resolve the fee issue. They cut me off, speak condescendingly and/or refuse to do more than "leave a note on the account" even though no one can confirm any notes. They want me to make an appt and come in. read more

This is the worst practice I've Ever been to. They never answer their phones and they find ways to charge you out of pocket and your insurance. The front desk receptionist is rude and has no compassion. Dr Rhodes is the worst, she doesn't take time to listen and she schedule appts you don't need just to put negative inaccurate things in your reports. She doesn't follow up with your insurance companies and clearly doesn't care about her patients. I'm clearly convinced at this point it's just a pay check for them that work there. That place is the worst and they treat their patients like their stupid mental patients that don't know anything. Dr Linda Pham was the best person there, and she even abandoned ship..Good for her..they treat you less than human there. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME... read more

Just as the other reviews below, this place is horrible for customer service. I also had to switch insurance which required a pre authorization form. I called and visited multiple times and in FOUR MONTHS they failed to do it, causing me to pay out of pocket. My new doctor asked for medical release documents, of which I went into the office to do and was told I'd get a call within 10 days to pick up. SHOCKER! It's been almost 3 weeks and no call. Worst experience in any medical practice I've ever had. read more

I was desperate to get my daughter to the right person. She is a beautiful 15 year old suffering from depression. DR. Thomas Tsao was kind, intelligent and very intuitive. He was able to draw my daughter into a lengthy conversation and I believe he was able to read through the lines as you must with teenagers from time to time. Dr. Tsao is the most caring doctor we have ever been to. He went way out of his way for us. read more

I was in a really dark rock bottom place in my life, and was in desperate need for help. I saw Dr. Carter since she was the first one to have openings available. She was awful, made me actually feel worse about myself. Minimal eye contact, cut me off to ask the next questions on her paper, and ended our session over 20 minutes early. There was minimal compassion or empathy. I would've felt better talking to a wall, at least that would have cost a lot loss money. Please save yourself from feeling worse off and wasting money, do not go to this provider. read more

Same experience others had, no one answers the phones, you call and leave messages daily for weeks and they won't return your calls... even if you go down to the office, the front desk staff is the laziest most unorganized lackadaisical unempathetic clowns I have ever witnessed. I was referred here by my PCP because I was supposed to see an actual Psychiatrist doctor but they gave me appointments with unqualified psychologist and counselors who weren't able or equipped to help with my BPD. After about 7 appointments they referred me to Christian Psychotherapy Service to start my treatment from scratch after they milked me and the insurance company... so I guess if you want to save some hassle and copays, try going to Christian psychotherapy first. This practice is a joke, look at all the bad reviews on google and yelp! These aren't made up by the patients, every one gets the same poor subpar treatment. Ocean psychiatric has made my condition much worse than before I started seeing Keisha Baxter and Dr Warren. They said they would do this and that but then disappeared, won't return calls and didn't keep their word, they obviously don't care about their patients health, safety or well being! This practice only care about getting money out you and your insurance company, they don't help at all with your mental illness. I've also had to correct them on billing errors multiple times trying to overcharge me. Beware!!! If you respectfully try to call them out on their bullshit and poor customer service then all they know how to say "Is that a threat? Because I'll have to report it and have you involuntarily committed." I have never made a threat to them but they have often been hostile toward me and threatened me with involuntary commitment for saying I was going to blow the whistle and report them for malpractice. If I don't make it through treatment, my family is holding them liable for their lack of care. I think they like to push people toward suicide, this place is evil! read more

AMAZING PRACTICE. I was seeking help from the wrong people at Christian psychotherapy, Dominon, etc. I tried every single place and doctor until I came to Ocean Psyciatric. Best staff, receptionists & doctors by far!! I've stayed here for almost 3 years now. read more

This seems unfortunately common for mental health services, but the level of care I received from Ocean Psych has been very disappointing. Often times my script doesn't last long enough to get me to my next appointment. When my SSRI medication runs out, the withdrawal symptoms are very uncomfortable. For ADHD medication, I was allowed to skip the drug test because I told them I used cannabis daily. Later in my treatment, having been sober for 10 months, I was told a drug test was required to continue the ADHD medication. Not a huge deal I suppose if they didn't charge $300 for a test that can be accomplished for $30. When I refused the test, due to the expense, I was not provided any more ADHD medication. I'm currently out of town and forgot my SSRI medication. I called ocean psych and they said they'd call in a prescription in the town I am so I can maintain my treatment while out of town. Today I was informed by the pharmacy that nothing was called in! When I finally reached ocean psych, after about 3 messages and a dozen phone calls, I was informed that my provider denied my request! So now I'm at an urgent care so I can maintain my medication while out of town. Do yourself a favor and find a provider that actually cares about your treatment more than they care about taking your cash. read more

This is the absolute worst practice I have ever been to for any medical or mental health service, especially on a customer service level. I wasn't thrilled with who I saw for anxiety/ADD (Russell Lanzer) because he was not helpful at all whatsoever, but the receptionists, billing department, and customer service are a joke. It took more than a month for me to get them to send the necessary paperwork for me to fill my prescription. I ended up paying full price for something my insurance covers because nobody here knows how to do their job. I know controlled substances can be quite a process for filling prescriptions but this was outrageous. I updated my insurance with them about 6 times over the course of a month and still was unable to get my medication because nobody had noted the account properly and they had been trying to go through my old insurance repeatedly and not even calling me to inform me it wasn't going through and why. They also conveniently kept hanging up on me every time I said I needed to talk to a manager. Do not waste your time here, especially if you're seeking any kind of mental health help because this place will certainly make you lose your mind. read more
