It was not until learning about Waves, and the trauma-informed therapists, that we finally saw progress. Neurofeedback therapy was a life saver for one of my kids, and then we started doing EMDR. Just about the time we started EMDR, our therapist, Heather, became trained in Flash EMDR. it is the most amazing, non-invasive approach to dealing with past trauma. Heather and her partner, Kime train other therapists in this miracle procedure, and it cannot happen fast enough. Every person with trauma in their background will benefit from this new form of EMDR. Why? Because instead of reliving and digging up the old trauma, it can be dealt with in a passive manner. I'm not kidding when I say this was and is a miracle for our family. This technique has become so successful that this practice has added quite a few new therapists. We are on the third family member being healed through this practice.

I have personally experienced some of the worst psychiatric care and Doctors in the Veteran's system so we came to Ocean Psychiatric for one of my daughters anxious about trusting anyone else. We both love Dr. Baxter in particular, she not only listens to my daughters needs, she's guided me on how to support her mental health needs. My insurance company messed up paperwork and she was quick to send additional info. The front staff is always busy when we go with customers on the phone as well in person that part rings true. Never do they just let the phone ring, I'm so happy with the care and testing they've done for my daughter,I came on yelp today to check out reviews for myself with anxiety. My advice is try them out and treat the staff as well as doctor with respect, if your unhappy,explain what you need don't rely on negative reviews alone! Some individuals might be a rude customer. It goes boy ways, we aren't all dream clients or patients. I worked customer service in the military and in the civilian sector but I don't work at Ocean and I will gladly recommend Ocean Psych. If your in a hurry at each appointment understand that sometimes they run long because a patient is late etc. That's only reason I gave a 4 star as opposed to 5 star review. Dr. Baxter is awesome, she even skipped lunch to see my daughter one day after a rough week. I'm posting this in 2019 so yes it's currently a good practice imho. Ladies you know how uncomfortable it can be when you get a pap smear. Well after talking to Dr. Roberts for a few minutes, I was ready to kick open my legs and say AHHHH lol Her staff is also amazing. I normally HATE giving blood, because I have deep veins and it always takes the nurse a few tries (the old insert needle, pull back needle, wiggle left/right, completely pull out needle and try other arm) This lady (sorry I don't know her name) got it on the first try! Praise the Lord! Two more things 1. She LISTENS!! I told her about a surgery I wanted to have done, but my insurance company believes it to be a cosmetic surgery. She LISTENED to my reasoning and actually took me serious and is following through. We're going to watch and see! 2.She told me I was overweight. Justin Ray (with South Chesapeake) finally listened to me, and I am one month in with my new medication. It's completely changed everything, and I couldn't be more thankful. (Also, they advertise quick response to calls, and this is NOT exaggerated. The desk is fantastic, couldn't recommend this place enough.)
