This was my 2nd time to go deep sea fishing. However, this would be my first and last time I'll do the 12-hour trip. The rocking boat can do a number on your back. I really hate to give this company 1 star because the staff have been nothng but friendly and helpful. The cook was friendly. Man, I applaud her for being able to cook meals while the boat was rocking wildly and keeping her cool. The fishing assistants were helpful with answering questions, unhooking tangled lines, fileting our fish and whatnots. If I had a complaint, it would be the captain and the quality of the boat and fishing spots. The captain, wow, liked putting the boat at full speed while the waves were big. The anchors...there was something wrong with them because at our first fishing spot, we had to wait at least 20 minutes before they could be fixed and we could fish. The fishing spots weren't at all impressive. The fishing assistants keep saying that the fall was the best time to fish. Really? So, why are you offering trips at this time of the year? Well, fishing spots are really hit-or-miss, no? I guess you can't really blame them if the fish aren't biting. Regardless of my review, what earned them a 1-star review was something I witnessed and was appalled. About 40 minutes before we docked, one of the fishing assistants took a full trash can, mostly filled with aluminum beverage cans, and emptied it into the ocean!!!! That was just so environmentally wrong! read more

Loved it. Took the whole family... ages 8 to over 50. We went in the afternoon so I had low expectations for actually catching fish. Everyone had fun, everyone caught fish... croaker mostly, some flounder and sea bass. My daughter, who has a knack for being "that one in every crowd" caught 2 mackerel and a sea robin. Someone else caught a skate. Very interesting and we brought home enough "keepers" to have a few dinners! We will definitely be going back. PS- yes - they have bathrooms on board. They offer a few sugary and salty snacks, beer, sodas, motion sickness medicine, & sunscreen (for a fee) or you can bring your own cooler (but you can not bring your own alcohol). Lots of help for newbies and moms like me who don't want to touch the bait or fish. If you (like me) decided to bring sandwiches, be sure to bring lotsof antibacterial hand wipes. It is a fishing boat you know! Also, sunscreen & sunglasses suggested, and I gave everyone in my family a motion sickness pill before climbing aboard... if you aren't really used to going out to sea, I highly suggest this. Years ago I went and got terribly sea sick. Excellent crew! read more

Tourist Trap. Probably good if you are just looking to take out kids for a few hours, but terrible as an actual fishing trip. Went on a 4 hour trip and did 1 hour driving out and 1 hour driving back in at the end. For the two hours we were out there, the Captain didn't know how to drift and had us pull up every 10 minutes while he spent the next 10 minutes repositioning. Really didn't seem like he knew what he was doing most of the time. We probably spent less than 90 minutes of the 4 hours actually fishing. Over the course of the entire trip, there were less than 10 keepers, most of which were triggerfish. Icing on the cake was at the end. Mate then came around and stuck a tip jar in everyone's face demanding a tip. He literally did nothing for me (brought own poles, untangled own tangles, caught no fish, unhooked myself off bottom) so his contribution to my experience was zero and thus don't feel he deserved a tip (compounded with the already terrible fishing experience). He walked right in front of me and screamed to the people next to me "Thanks for the tip, really appreciate it" then turned to me and said right into my face "Thanks for nothing". Real classy guy. I tip based on the quality of service received, and he was useless on that trip. Glad he said what he said because it confirmed that I made the correct decision in not tipping someone so unprofessional. Would not recommend anyone looking for a real fishing trip try this place. Again, probably great for parents that want to kill a few hours with kids, but overall a tourist trap. read more

Great time on the water this fall. I went out twice and both times we had a ball. Mates were attentive and plenty of fish were caught.

Don't expect too much. Today 8/7/19 the ocean was choppy, the boat was crowded with people, and only a handful of very small fish were caught. My two sons and I didn't catch anything. The captain was fine and the crew did very well at being courteous and attentive. Probably won't do it again, but glad we did it once. read more

This was an awesome trip, for my daughter. I was sea sick, bad. The first mate was a true gentleman and the other people helped my daughter enjoy every moment, while I was puking overboard. Still, great to see my daughters excitement. Highly recommend!!!! read more

I and my kids went out the other day for a 4 hour deep sea fishing trip - in about 50 feet of water and just out of sight of the OC beach. The ship was in excellent shape and I must really praise the crew - they were always friendly and walking around helping - even seeing problems before we saw them (like tangled lines) and the captain moved the ship multiple times so we could catch as much as we could. (The 5 year old next to my family caught two fish even before I got my line in the water.) Although I will note that they should have given everyone instructions on how to use the rods we rented from them as it took some time to get the hang of them. On our trip I got sea sick (which shocked me as I don't have a weak stomach) but that certainly was not the crew's fault - in fact they warned us before going out that even though it looked calm that day, once we were out there the boat would rock a lot and even offered refunds before we left for anyone who wanted one. All the wonderful praise I have for them is tempered by two things - my sea sickness was made worse by the smell of the diesel engines which they kept running even when we were just sitting there fishing - couldn't they have turned them off? Also, it would have been nice to listen to the peaceful/relaxing sounds of the birds and ocean when we were stopped, but with the engines idling that was kind of impossible. Secondly, when I asked for some paper towels to clean the fish bait off my hands I was told they didn't have any but I could buy a rag for $1. Really, no paper towels and making people buy a 5 cent rag for a dollar (which they told us to throw away at the end of the trip - can't they be washed and reused?). That was really cheap and kind of lousy - but now I know. If it wasn't for the sea sickness I would go again - just bringing my own rags this time. One final thing - we went for the short 4 hour trip and spent about 1/2 of it going out, moving to different spots, and then coming back - which worked for us as this was our first trip and we didn't know what to expect, but if you really want to spend time fishing, go out on a longer trip. I took my eight-year-old son on a four-hour fishing trip this June, and we had a great time. We can't wait to book another trip! (Note: I had been on one other head boat and two fishing charters prior to this trip, and this outfit is the best I've experienced thus far). The captain, mate, and lady who managed the reservation booth all were friendly and professional. The mate, Tim, was excellent and quick to help us with tangled lines, bait, etc. He went out of his way to help my son land a catch (a keeper!) and even posed with him for selfies. The 80" boat was tidy and comfortable. The website says it can accommodate up to 65 anglers. There were about 25 people on our trip, which gave us ample space, but I think it would be tight if at capacity. read more

Great time on the Ocean Princess, the crew couldn't be more helpful. Would recommend this outing for anyone. My husband and I did the 1/2 day trip, had many bites, one keeper! The crew walked the boat continually, helping to bait and take the fish off of the hooks. They even cleaned the keepers for us! Awesome time! read more

I just went on Friday 9/21/2012. They boat is a scam. They keep moving around and wouldnt let you fish and they keep having problem with their anchor which take them like hours. so total fishing time were like 2 hours out of a 12 hours fishing trip. DO NOT GO ON THIS BOAT. You will regret. I would give it a -5 stars if i could. read more
