This place is being talked about a lot in the North East. Transformed from club, to steak house to…read morethai in the last 12-18 months there has been some major works going on both inside and out! The building has always been impressive with three floors and raised seating the owner has outdone himself with huge trees and twinkling fairy lights. The food and drinks menu has been well thought out, clear and concise its not huge but I like the idea that they have picked a few dishes that they will do very well! The service in here started off a little on the shaky side having seated someone else in our seats we were a bit unnerved to see them move people for the the last booth in the raised area. Although it was explained those seating areas were for food only and the people who were moved were only having drinks... Moving swiftly on we were talked through the menu on what was a suitable amount for starter and main etc. We ordered a selection of starters to share; the prawn dynamite sushi was tasty although reading the menu you would think you get a selection of the six offered you do have to choose one as it is handmade to order - nice touch! Next was the spring rolls with duck which were very good with more flavour than your ordinary vegetable variety! My favourite was the pork and prawn dim sum -arriving in a basket to keep them warm they were amazing! Cooked to perfection the rice paper was thin and the pork went so well with the fish. Served with a very hot chilli dip it gave it the kick it needed! Next was the tricky decision between the thai red curry or the monkfish. On recommendation I went for the monkfish (which isn't explained on the menu in detail but is in fact small bites of fish breaded!) served with rice or chips. The curry sauce dip on the side was refreshing and light and the sticky rice came served in the lotus leaf -again a nice touch! I wouldn't normally have went for a fish dish but the waitress had excellent knowledge of the menu which I liked! We finished the meal off with some coconut ice cream and some sake - again something I hadn't tried. Served in a jug and warmed through it was good - definitely worth giving it a go! With one final cocktail for the road - the Guava Royale is one I would recommend I will definately be coming back to try my thai curry! 5* for service - from drinks to food tips and a great atmosphere for a relaxed evening out!

The sea bass with ginger and scallion was my fav! It's no longer on the menu but other special are just as good. The specials are great to try during lunch too. 2 people, 4 tapas and 2 glasses of wine for £22 was a great deal. We got baked brie, mushroom…read morerisotto, chicken satay and baked fish patties. The risotto was incredible, so much flavor and a perfect consistency. Also the gin and tonic selection is amazing! 3 pages of "ginventions" with different gins, flavored tonics and garnishes. This is the perfect place for a girls night or date night, fun and delicious!

I headed to Ora after booking up for me and a friend over the bank holiday weekend. Glad I booked…read moreas it was jam packed I headed to the bar to grab a drink whilst we waited for our table to be re-set. Only waiting ten minutes the waitress brought our cocktails up; mine a cosmopolitan and a elder-fizz or something to that effect! Served with a slice of orange (as to be expected) and a very fancy star shaped melon! After being seated up stairs on the meziene level we got started on our catch up - the last time we saw each other was back in March when we went to Berlin together! The waiter gave us enough time to decide having only come over twice we had just about narrowed down our tapas choices! (There is a main menu too should you want something a little more! We opted for 4 tapas plates; the tempura prawns, humous and pitta, meatballs and chorizo and hallomi. On our waiters recommendation we went for a fifth plate of patatas- bravas aioli. They all took a good 20-25 minutes to arrive which was idea for us as we followed our cocktails with a bottle of prosecco. On arrival we tucked in - my favourites being the hummus and the meatballs which came in a creamy tomato sauce topped with parmesan shavings. The garlic potatoes were also great however thankful I wasn't doing much the next day as my dad told me the garlic smell followed me around the next day... The only downside to our meal was being told the next covers had arrived so we needed to make a move. This was even before our plates had been cleared away and although I was told whilst booking over the phone I would have thought that we were allowed slightly longer given the fact we were in fact also seated slightly late. Nevertheless the meal was tasty and the wine was good no doubt I will be back next time I am visiting Newcastle!

I know it's table service with stunning sea views and it was cosy but would I return - most…read morecertainly not. It was busy and noisy when we arrived but that tapered off. We each ordered two 2 courses (starter/main and main/dessert) so we could share a starter and a dessert. What was the worst of it? Well two main annoyances - plates were not hot not even close. Second the service took for ever especially waiting for our main course. I should add that the flat white coffee was poor enough too. The Fritto Misto starter was a mean portion of lukewarm, cheap fish like calamari and mussels and skinny slices of limp cold vegetables like red pepper - really unappealing. The main of cod and chips was just alright - the cod was neither thick nor generous, but it was fresh and the batter pleasant - and no discernible grease. With all the hype I'd heard of this place it was really disappointing. The portion of chips was mean and as the plates were lukewarm the food didn't stay hot long either. Plates for fish & chips need to be really very hot and there's no excuse for them not to be. The crumble dessert was ok. Not bad but not delicious. The crumble topping and ice cream were darn good. The mushy peas were darn good and the scraps (fried bits of batter) were exquisite - fried unhealthy and almost the best part of an otherwise truly forgettable meal. The staff were friendly and inefficient maybe because of the kitchen but I found no evidence of the great reputation I'd heard about the place. Would I go back - it's two star for the price paid, poor coffee, mean portions, cool plates and slow service - certainly not but it has aspects of good 3 star, just not enough.
