I know it's table service with stunning sea views and it was cosy but would I return - most…read morecertainly not. It was busy and noisy when we arrived but that tapered off. We each ordered two 2 courses (starter/main and main/dessert) so we could share a starter and a dessert. What was the worst of it? Well two main annoyances - plates were not hot not even close. Second the service took for ever especially waiting for our main course. I should add that the flat white coffee was poor enough too. The Fritto Misto starter was a mean portion of lukewarm, cheap fish like calamari and mussels and skinny slices of limp cold vegetables like red pepper - really unappealing. The main of cod and chips was just alright - the cod was neither thick nor generous, but it was fresh and the batter pleasant - and no discernible grease. With all the hype I'd heard of this place it was really disappointing. The portion of chips was mean and as the plates were lukewarm the food didn't stay hot long either. Plates for fish & chips need to be really very hot and there's no excuse for them not to be. The crumble dessert was ok. Not bad but not delicious. The crumble topping and ice cream were darn good. The mushy peas were darn good and the scraps (fried bits of batter) were exquisite - fried unhealthy and almost the best part of an otherwise truly forgettable meal. The staff were friendly and inefficient maybe because of the kitchen but I found no evidence of the great reputation I'd heard about the place. Would I go back - it's two star for the price paid, poor coffee, mean portions, cool plates and slow service - certainly not but it has aspects of good 3 star, just not enough.

This place is fantastic, lovely place right on the beach front. The sticky toffee pudding was a bit sickly though but loved this place and highly reccomend.

We noticed this café/bistro a few weeks ago on a part of Whitely Road that we don't normally…read morefrequent and finally got around to visiting. The décor is very up market, in keeping with the slightly top-hat and hunting pink feel to the name, almost as if it were once situated in Harrods and has been lifted up and dropped in this slightly run-down and tatty area of Whitley Bay. I must say I felt a little out of place, having popped out from home in just jeans and t-shirt, maybe next time I'll smarten up a bit first. The food was very good, I had the scallops with black pudding along side a "dieting" smoothie, my wife had a tuna and sweetcorn toasted sandwich with an Amaretto latte; when the food arrived it was almost a shame to eat it as they were works of art. Prices were slightly higher than other lunchtime places in town (normally two lunches with drinks are in the £10-15 range and this was £20). I can only think of two downsides to the visit. First, I found out after my visit that they serve a very highly rated afternoon tea and second, despite being only one of two tables in use at the time our food took almost half an hour to arrive, which felt a little excessive given the dishes ordered; perhaps we caught the kitchen out in some way. Update 29/3/2013: Visited for afternoon tea today, and it is as good as other reviewers say. First course is a plate of sandwiches (with the crusts cut off). Tuna and sweetcorn, ham a wholegrain mustard, chicken & mayo and cream cheese with cucumber. As an additional surprise the chicken appeared to have been freshly grilled as the sandwiches were warm. Second course the lightest scones we had ever eaten (apple and cinnamon) with strawberry jam and clotted cream. To finish, cakes. The red velvet cake was like a giant cupcake, avoiding the usual trap of being dry, and topped with lashings of butter-cream icing. All washed down with tea chosen from a myriad of loose-leaf green and black varieties available. All very nice and jolly civilized.

Great Cocktail Bar. Also had sharing platter with the Mrs (stopped her drinking more cocktails)…read more Loads for the money!
