I like some heat in my salsa and some of the hottest ones really dont disappoint. The food here is great and really hits the spot for a Mexican craving. Options include tacos and burritos. We each had a burrito, one pork one chicken. The problem I usually find with UK Mexican is that it isnt well-seasoned enough and generally lacks flavor. The meat and toppings here do not have that issue. The burritos were big and filling. I missed having something on the side, like rice and beans though. That would really clench it for me. As for the drinks, there are tons of great cocktail options like margarits, mojitos, palomas, etc. as well as Mexican beer options like Modelo and Corona.

The Botanist was an excellent find when we stayed the night in downtown Newcastle. Located on Monument Mall, you have to up three flights of stairs or take the lift (elevator) to reach the main bar and lounge that has a strong botanical garden theme that is quite beautiful, especially with the location being under a dome. The dome is gorgeous and really enhances the botanical garden and atrium effect. The cocktails are very good as well. I ordered a buttered coconut old fashioned that was quite rich and creamy, but very satisfying with the toasted coconut and butter-washed Makers Mark bourbon with homemade salted honey syrup. My wife enjoyed her Botanist Ultimate Gin & Tonic as we took a table with these plushy lounge chairs. The bartender was fantastic and friendly in making us the cocktails. Really nice guy who made us feel at home. Additionally, they have a rooftop balcony to enjoy the drinks; however, on this evening, it was windy and cold (at least for us Floridians) to where we decided to stay warmer inside. Certainly a great place to dress up and add a bit of glamour to your night. It was my first visit to Tiger Hornsby's last night and I was so impressed that I think this will now become one of my favourite destinations for drinks. I absolutely loved it! The staff are extremely friendly and accommodating, wearing smiles all round. Even on a busy Saturday night they still offered table service which is great...especially when you're comfortable on one of their lovely sofas! The drinks are pretty expensive to be fair....although we did arrive outside of happy hour so we missed the £4 cocktail deals. That said they have a fantastic selection of drinks available and I cannot wait to try some more cocktails. My only personal dislike was the shape of the wine glasses albeit a tiny gripe and certainly not a deterrent. Slightly quieter than some bars on a weekend, perhaps as it is a bit further along the quayside, but this makes it even more appealing and I think it still remains a hidden gem - long may it last!
