When I found a brewery located Oceanside, I knew I was going to be happy but when you pair it with a beautiful dining room, endless beer options, and a slammin menu - woowee you have struck Puerto Rican gold! The beers are delicious. If you're having trouble deciding, you can build a flight. They also have a very nice cocktail menu. Aside from their menu, they also serve sushi. We did not partake, but other reviews are positive. The tacos are a "must" starter. We enjoyed the ceviche. My husband liked his steak and I enjoyed the shrimp but I really wish I would've tried the fried pork chop. It is giant, or I would have tried to take it down myself. "Born on the Beach" @oceanlabbrewingco This was my third time to Ocean Lab Brewing Company and it was probably the best one (always a great experience though). Ocean Lab is in Carolina, Puerto Rico directly east of San Juan. They do have restaurant and beer locations in Old San Juan and San Patricio! During this visit, I had one of the best beers I've had in awhile: -Condado West Coast Pils 5.6% This delicious westie pils is in collaboration with another one of my favorite breweries that I've been to @trippinganimalsbrewing (second pic) Pictured: 1st: Ocean Blonde Ale 5.4% 3rd: Hop Diver DIPA 8.1% (also quite amazing) 4th: Ocean Mambo Passion Fruit Wheat 5.5% Their Brewmaster Smash Burger with Bacon was PHENOMENAL. Second time here in 3 years and Ocean Lab grew up. lol. The store and restaurant are now on the ocean side of the same property. They adjoin Vivo Beach Club which has beach chairs and pools and event venues. The beer flights are fun and you can choose one of these or make your own. We liked the Baraka best. And the BOB was good too. Not that they are alike in anyway. Food was delicious and we did not expect it to be so good. So pleasantly surprised and recommended. To sit at the ocean's side and have some beer and food is lovely. The service was great. Constantly checking back to see if we were ok. We started with a beer and a flight of beers. Had the pretzel bites that were a special and they were special!! Loved them. Andrew presentation. The shishito peppers were delicious with a touch of soy sauce. Brewery? Meh! I've been to over 300 breweries in my life and this is more like a resort and absolutely nothing like a brewery. N O T H I N G The vibes here were off and all the people I saw here looked angry and/or unhappy which annoyed me because I was by the water trying to enjoy a good IPA with my gf while taking in the views. The service sorta sucked too and every employee was either on their phone, talking to each other, not paying attention to paying customers, or talking to one customer for 15-20 minutes and ignoring other patrons, but it did a get little bit better once another girl started taking care of us. Thank you! We didn't try any of their food because we had ate in Piñones prior to coming here but the food we did see people eating did look good. We also stopped in their retail store before leaving and purchased some items. It is a nice place but not my kind of vibe so I doubt I'll ever come back here the next time we are on the island. My wife took a walk on the beach and I had a few IPAs, they were all delicious and refreshing. They view out the front and the great service made it like paradise. The food was exceptional. The view is incredible. The sushi was incredibly fresh and made to order, as you can see the chef preparing the rolls through a window overlooking the kitchen. We expected great Beers, good Food at above average prices. Well we ordered one Beer Sampler. Every Beer in that sampler was flat. The apps were quite good, but very high price. The cocktails were good, better than the Beers. I ordered an IPA, and it was not flat. The venue was on open air patio with no Air-con, okay for some, but most of my group were uncomfortable. We decided to skip the $20 burgers, paid for Drinks-Appetizers only to move my group to my house where we ordered Pizza and picked up better Beer at the Supermarket. I don't plan to return to this specific venue, But I do purchase Ocean Lab Beers that are fresher by the can than on draft. we felt it was overpriced. Maybe an off night? Better luck next time. Ok, so you would expect me to start out a review of a brewery talking about food, but the calamari salad at Ocean Lab is one of the absolute best dishes I've had anywhere, so I need to mention it first. This Puerto Rican/Japnese fusion dish that combines tostones, calamari salad, and spicy mayo is absolutely perfect. Nearly every table of diners had at least one of these dishes, and I would highly recommend you get it too (it's also dairy free). Now for the beer. Ocean Lab makes a ton of different beers, from more refreshing lagers and sours/fruited beers, to pale ales and IPAs. The lighter beers are definitely the star here (after all, it's hot, right?), so definitely get one of those. I liked the "Maya" and "Ruby" a lot. The view of the ocean is really nice (the restaurant is set on the second floor). The gift shop here is really cool, and you'll definitely find some swag you want to take home. They offer singles of almost all of their beers as well (plus 6-packs), so you can take some home/to your hotel with you. An uber from the Caribe Hilton was about $12. However, it was hard to get a ride back, and I ended up walking all the way to the main hotel zone (almost a mile) where I finally got an uber to pick me up. read more

Well, a lot of things have changed since I last visited Ocean Lab over 5 years ago so I figured I should update my review. Again, I was visiting PR with family and our flight got delayed so we had an extra 5 hours to kill before needing to be at the airport- so we decided to head to Ocean Lab since it's right next door! We dropped our bags at the airport and called the Uber to take us the 8min drive. Ocean Lab has greatly expanded so that now the taproom/restaurant has their own multiple story building (and the area that used to be the taproom is now the gift shop which has a lot of really awesome merch). There's also a stage and a DJ booth. The beer was great and I liked that they offered cocktails as well. The food was also fantastic (I especially loved the hummus and tacos!) The area is very nice overlooking the pool (the complex that it is in is a private beach club). The one thing that I didn't like was how separate they worked to keep visitors to Ocean Lab from Vivo Beach Club visitors. They had people stationed on the bottom level who would question you if you looked like you might not be just going to the gift shop (I tried to use a different bathroom and was stopped). I understand that they are paying to use different facilities but it would be nice to feel like you aren't being watched. Other than that, service was fantastic! We were there quite a while since we had nowhere else to go and our waitress did not complain and kept checking on us. Also, whereas 5 years ago you could not get picked up by Uber at the Beach Club, that has also changed and it is easy to get back to the airport. My husband tried Ocean Lab Beer at our hotel and fell in love with it. So much so we went to the awesome brewery/beach club on the beach twice in our short week stay in PR. We tried several of their beers and loved all we tasted (just wish we could have brought some home to AZ). But, also want to mention the food was amazing as well as their other cocktails. Both lunches had great and friendly service and the views were so pretty. When we were there it was never too busy despite it being a great deal for a beautiful beach club. Our first lunch we split two appetizers, the cheese plate and the Tuna Timball and I had a Margarita which were so good and actually filling. On our last day we returned and I had the fried chicken sandwich with a sangria and both were perfect. My husband had a Greek salad and had loved the Tuna Timball so much he ordered it again. Party of 8 came in for a late lunch. Our server let us know they had just opened a week ago. He ( our server) was lovely. Very attentive and kind. The appetizer (calamari) came out quickly and was hot. But large breading lacked seasoning. The tartar was pretty good. We got chicken tenders, the taco app as a meal, fried chicken sandwich, wings, shrimp salad and the pulled pork sandwich. It took an extraordinarily long time for food to come out. And not everything came out. The wings and the shrimp salad (arguably the least effort things bc the salad is assemable and wring fry for a short time) took forever The entire table was completely finished and we still didn't receive the 2 meals. The shrimp salad and fries finally came. My meal. The shrimp salad lacked flavor. As did the unseasoned fries. I finished my meal and then the wings came out. The pace of meal was incredibly off. But most of the table really enjoyed their food. I hope they can fix their timing issue and utilize more seasoning. Located on the beach overlooking a pool/stage. There was a DJ while we were there but there is a full size stage which I think would be a cool thing to watch while enjoying beers at the brewery. The flights come in groups of 4. A good number of fruity beers to choose from. I personally liked the Mambo and Ruby ones. The pale ale had a silky mouthfeel that I didn't like but the flavor was otherwise fine. The merch shop has a lot of shirts, beers, hats, cups, etc to choose from. If you want cans of any of the beers, I recommend buying them in the shop - I tried to find some in the city to take home and could only find one of the beers in can form. read more
