My car key broke apart so I headed down to Ocean Honda after work to get a new one. I arrived 5 minutes before closing (I didn't know they closed at 6:00). However, Pedro didn't turn me away. He took the time to explain my different options, cut me my new key and walked out to my car to ensure the key would work. This process kept Pedro after work an extra 25 minutes. Brought my s2000 and told them the problem. A day or so later I contacted them on what the situation was. I keep getting voicemails and a run around of the person that aided me. I finally get notified to pick up my car. Showed up and they told me the same thing I told them about the problem with my car. They didn't want to touch my engine to help me due to some minor aftermarket parts than mean nothing but pushed me away. So I lost $140 for towing to the dealer to back home. I called them again to explained the problem to a warranty service to the dealer that sold me the engine so I may get a new engine or my money back but they didn't reply back or wanted to help me. This dealership is a joke. I took my car to Pearce Auto and they were shocked to why Ocean couldn't perform their duties to a Honda engine as well as a customer. Now that Pearce Auto had repaired my engine. I say Ocean Honda, you guys need to hire associates that will go beyond expectations instead of push others away and to other shops. Now I know Ocean will only work on Honda cars that have little problems. If you need engine work. Go to Pearce Auto instead of Ocean. They will out perform Ocean anytime, anyday with their mechanics. I took my 10yr old car with high mileage in for repair, only to find out it had many serious mechanical problems. They could have done the repairs, however I opted to buy a used vehicle on their lot. The Service Tech, Alexis Ortiz, helped me with my decision and went above and beyond putting me in touch with a Salesman, Mohamad Alkoussa. These guys were SUPER and so honest and made this transaction a breeze! I am an "old lady" and they explained everything in detail . Mohamad took a lot of time telling me details about the car I wanted...the test drive went well. I knew I wanted this FANTASTIC HRV right away! He had the car cleaned and detailed...even took a photo of us just before taking it home...WITH a big red bow. Not what you would expect from a Honda dealership. The old Ocean Honda of about 12 years ago, when owned by Steve Johns, was pretty cool. Now., the dealership is part of a large group that owns about 50 dealerships. They play the trick of adding on dealership installed "security lock items" that maybe cost a few hundred dollars, then charge the buyer $1,500. If you ask them to uninstall the junk, they say that will cost more than leaving them on. Gouge! We had a deal on a new vehicle at a certain price. As the paperwork was being prepared, the manager hen said the price was $1,000 too low. "Take it or leave it". We left. Going to buy a Honda somewhere else and just using the internet. read more

Terrible service!!!! Went in for a routine oil change and I asked them to check out my wipers because they were making a lot of noise. They said "don't worry, we will replace them for you and it will only be an additional $20 for both wipers". I said OK and proceeded to pay for the service. Upon leaving the service department, I turned on my wipers to try them out and they were making the same noise. I assumed they put new wipers on so I thought the problem was instead with my windshield. 4 painful, rainy months later, I made an oil change appt at Sam Linder Honda service department in Salinas because I didn't have time to drive all the way out to Santa Cruz. The service advisor said everything on my HRV looked great, except my wipers. He said that they were streaking and offered to put new wipers for an additional $20. When my HRV was done, the first thing I did was turn on my wipers and they were completely smooth. Ocean Honda did NOT change my wipers. They CHARGED me $20 to change my wipers and they never did. I am so angry and will NEVER return for service. Completely unacceptable. read more

Classic bait and switch. Saw a car I was interested in on Carfax so I called the dealership and spoke with Chris O'Connell. Gave him the stock number from the report and asked if the car was still available. He assured me it was and would I like to come in for a test drive? Went down to the dealership where Chris came out shook my hand and handed me off to another gentleman named Leon. Waited for about thirty minutes before Leon disclosed that the description was incorrect, the stock number was wrong, etc. My first time working with a Honda dealership - it was pretty dismal. The degree of prevarication on O'Connell's part is stunning - the man is a snake with no compunction and a glibness worthy of a starched shirt politician. I haven't given up entirely on Honda but I'm pretty close. So long as it employs the likes of Mr. O'Connell, the more disreputable their reputation will become. read more

Luis was wonderful and helped my boyfriend get a great deal on a beautiful accord. He worked with him on figuring out the best monthly payment that fit my boyfriends needs! I went in the next day to upgrade my car (that I also bought at ocean honda) because I loved my boyfriends so much. Luis came down to the dealership when he wasn't even scheduled to help me out. Luis was extremely helpful and knowledgeable about all the differences between the models and answered my many questions. The sales staff is belittling and rude. If you're okay wit h being talked to like a child then this is the place for you. Managers try to push warranties that are not honored like they are sold. It's almost like these guys think bullying someone into over paying for a car is a sustainable sales approach. After dealing with Ocean Honda this last week I think the used car sales culture is as toxic as the jokes and stereotypes. In the end I should actually thank you guys. With your poor sales approach, expectations to push costs and beat up "Honda Certified" cars onto consumers Ocean Honda saved me 25 or so grand. Update (1/11/22): American Honda has agreed that Ocean Honda made a mistake and our car was fixed under warranty at another dealership...Fremont Honda which has great techs and great deals. Ocean Honda claimed our car was modified when it was not. They lied. Honda disagreed with Ocean Honda and fixed our car + gave us a settlement to make up for what Ocean Honda did. Continue to Avoid Ocean Honda at all costs who still refuse to remove the flag from our Vehicle and are still lying in their system about my car being modified. We were without a car for about 7 months all thanks to Ocean Honda. We will be suing now that Honda agreed Ocean made a mistake. I purchased a Civic SI from Ocean (which was just an OKAY deal...not very good). This isn't even on their salesmen. After not purchasing my type-r from Ocean, I finally took it to them because the Type R's have known transmission issues and I was experiencing a common and known problem these cars are having. Ocean Honda is much closer to me than leaving the bay area, so we thought that even if they are terrible at selling cars, their service shop should still be okay. NOPE.  After holding on to the car for almost two weeks, they falsely claimed I modified the car and flagged my car so that Honda wouldn't fix it. They are refusing to even say what was modified. I have to get a lawyer just to get them to do their job now! Is it because I didn't buy from them? Is it because they think they can scam transgender women at the car shop? Avoid these scammers at all cost! They are very good at lying. Just look at their other reviews. I know Ocean is the closest for many in Santa Cruz county, but if you value your money as much as Ocean will value stealing your money, avoid like your life depended on it. A Note on their Treatment of Transgender people: They could use a diversity training course on how to treat transgender women. They constantly misgender us and I have heard through others in the community that there are many such cases of them doing this. We experienced this through out much of the process working with them that the transphobic misgendering is a issue. Not all of their employees are like this. Many of them are nice people.  But they have a lot of bad apples. Awesome customer service and service department! While visiting my friend from an hour and a half away I found myself in a pickle and needed a replacement car key. John Prendi and Jamie Calame in the service department were fantastic! They were extremely friendly, sympathetic, humorous, and very professional. The service department appeared to be busy but they were able to make 2 new keys for me in under 40 minutes, really saving the day! I didn't catch his name, but there was also a younger Hispanic gentleman at the door greeting, providing hand sanitizer, and taking people's temperature due to the current COVID-19 situation. I made conversation with him and he was very friendly and professional as well. I was also rang up quickly by a younger female (I'm sorry I didn't catch your name either) who was very professional as well. The waiting area was clean and seating arrangements were appropriately spaced (COVID-19 considering). When I asked to speak to the manager, the service employee hung up the phone. Rude people, poor customer service. In May 2023, I sent my car with a broken radiator to the Ocean Honda Santa Cruz dealership (3801 Soquel Dr, Soquel, CA 95073). I also had the airbag light on; they said the airbag light was a safety issue and Honda would repair it for free. After a week and a half, they called me to pick up the car with the fixed radiator, but the airbag light was still ON ( I was not informed about this when they called me to pick it up). When I told them about the airbag issue, they said they would call me when the part would be available. I drove back home and realized the air conditioner was not working (by the way, the air conditioner was working before I sent the car to repair). I called to inform them about this new issue, and they told me to bring the car back to check it. I made an appointment a week later, but upon arrival, they told me it would take five days to let me know what was wrong with it. They advised me to call in advance to check if I could borrow a service car so I could have a car while repairing mine. I called asking, and they told me they would let me know when a borrowed car would be available. Two weeks later, I called again and requested to speak with the guy who took my car for repair the first time. He said he would call me when a borrowed car would be available (again). It has been months since then (now September 2023), and I am still waiting to hear from Ocean Honda Santa Cruz about an available borrowed car or the airbag light part. I emailed the manager to let him know about all these issues with his business a month ago, and he has yet to reply. The radiator repair itself was over $2,000. Is this how a business treats its customers? Once they receive payment, they forget about you. Please do not bring the car to this dealership; they do not provide decent customer service. I guess they look into a car under warranty because they have to, but if you are out of warranty and need assistance, never trust this business; they do not provide honest service to their customers. read more

I'm a local Santa Cruz resident, and try keeping my business local. I was wanting to trade my car in and decided to give Ocean Honda a shot. Big mistake. JEREMY EMPSON was nice enough like all car salesman. He was definitely pushy, and talked me into a car. On the due bill they agreed to fix all the chipped paint on the bumper. Not only did it take them a month to get me in to do it, Jeremy tried to charge me for the paint. He said they couldn't find their copy of the due bill, but he would get the paint and have them fix it. He then asked if I could bring my copy cause if he doesn't have proof they are gonna charge HIM for the paint. Seriously?Did not believe that. So they take it back to work on, and spend about 10 minutes on it. Shottiest work I've ever seen. Literally looked like they took some white out and painted it on there. Just got off the phone with Ocean Honda over a $148 fee that was charged to a Senior citizen caused by Ocean Honda's failure to properly transfer the title through the DMV to Ocean Honda. This person who traded in their old car for a new Honda thought that when she signed the notice of of transfer and release of liability with Ocean Honda that all responsibility for the car was no longer hers. Negotiated the price since I was going to make an hour and half drive. Niko PURIKJ's exact response via email was "I spoke with my manager about the number you told me and he said it sounds like a deal. he also asked how soon can you come in?" In a subsequent email "Niko PURIKJ said "SOUNDS LIKE A DEAL TO ME!!! WHAT TIME YOU CAN BE HERE TODAY? BRING YOUR TRADE IN AND I WILL MAKE IT HAPPEN!" I realize Hondas are very popular cars to buy and so it came as no surprise that when I reached out to the two dealerships near my house in the South Bay, I got no responses from the online inquiries or phone calls. Others I talked to didn't care to even negotiate. I put in one inquiry into Ocean Honda because their cars came with two year maintenance included. While in the end I realized it only worked for their dealership and the other ones in the Victory Auto Group in SF, Burlingame and San Mateo, they were willing to work with me on the price and even delivered the car to me in San Jose as I simply didn't have time to go to Santa Cruz.
