If you're hungry for some fish and chips takeout, this place has been around for a long time. It is just a few streets south of Charing Cross hospital. the decor and atmosphere is nothing to write home about. Be that as it may -- they have the*most* superb* fish available. In addition to what's listed on the menu, you can ask for cod by the slice each bit is a few inches long -- say 5-6 inches long and about an inch and a half wide or so. It is fried in THE greatest fresh batter and the outside is wonderfully crunchy. Best part is it is [or was, I haven't had a chance to go in a few months, as I live in a different part of London] is that it is only 50p per bit. So if you want 1 or 15 or whatever they are happy to oblige. My husband used to live in the area years ago and swore it was the best he had in London as regards fish bits being done up like that. I much prefer it to the one big hunk of fish you get in most places. This 50p per piece bit isn't on the menu, so you'll have to ask for it. Occasionally when I have stopped by they have run out of the fish bits, but that just goes to show how popular the place is in the neighborhood. Never a terribly long wait though. Take-away mostly but there is a seating area of a few tables. It's close to the Fullham palace road on the North side of the street. Well worth a stop if you're in the Charing Cross Hospital area and want to grab a bite.
Sorry the delay in posting this - I'd meant to post much sooner. [The chips are okay and nothing special to write home about -- personally I prefer thinner crisper fries myself, but that's not the usual British preference.] They offer a fairly standard menu. I can't comment on the other items, because we always went there for those fish strips. read more
