I came to Dr. Hortman of Palmetto Dental Associates on June of 2020, my teeth had started to crack…read moreand chip. After telling her my medical background she suspected my previous radiation treatments damaged the bone underneath my gums. She consulted Dr. Maxwell of Coastal Carolina & Maxillofacial Surgeons and made an appointment with him. Xrays confirmed Dr. Hortman's suspicions and developed a plan to restore the damage which started with 8 weeks of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy to restore the damage to the bone tissue. During my treatment Dr. Hortman didn't waste any time and started making molds for my dentures, implants weren't an option because of the extensive damage caused by the radiation. Half way through my Hyperbaric treatments Dr. Maxwell pulled all my teeth, then after my gums healed Dr. Hortman stepped in to start constructing my dentures. It was a long process because my dentures were custom made. We made progress each visit making sure my dentures would fit properly. Dr. Hortman is a extremely competent and very compassionate doctor, I never felt like just another patient. I think she felt worse about my situation than I did, I hadn't eaten solid foods in months. I guess I wasn't taken back about my situation having developed complete confidence In Dr. Hortman and her staff. Her goal was to make my dentures perfect and unique to my mouth. Actually the doctor and her staff were more excited than I was during each step, I guess because it was their creation. Dr. Hortman's assistant Erin was fantastic, a combination of skills, compassion and a positive attitude. Eight months after walking into Palmetto Dental Associates I walked away with a great smile and dentures that fit like a glove. I would highly recommend Dr. Hortman and Palmetto Dental Associates to anyone in need of dental care. During my visits I saw the respect and care she had with all of her patients.

And Frankie was unwilling to work with me as well, because, she said, "that's not how we do things here anymore." Apparently, much has changed in a year, sadly. There was a GLITCH with my insurance, not on my end, but on the insurance company end. This happened once before about a year ago here and it all worked out and went through fine at this same office. This time, I had the same problem. I reminded her that this happened before but Kylie/Keely refused to help me after I was passed to her by Frankie (who also told me she would not work with me to sort it out), insisting I pay out of pocket. Not only did I remind her that this happened previously and had the proof to show it all worked out (EOB's), I also had my insurance info available as well as had my insurance company call and verify my info directly with Kylie/Keely and send her proof of current good standing insurance coverage! Kylie/Keely insisted that this was not enough "proof" of insurance, and even with my credit card on file, insurance calling her directly, insurance company directly sending proof of coverage to Kylie/Keely and Frankie, and my willingness to pay out of pocket if need be and providing them with my credit card, she absolutely refused to believe I had coverage and would not work with me whatsoever. WHAT!?!? So Kylie/Keely took my credit card, immediately billed me and refused all info that came directly from my insurance company.... directly from the insurance company!!! I will never ever go here again, nor will my family. My suggestion? Get a new insurance person for the office because Kylie/Keely will most definitely cost you more customers. Firstly, her attitude is incredulous! I have never been treated so poorly. I am NOT a scumbag. I pay my bills and work hard to ensure I have proper insurance and take care of my debts...but Kylie/Keely and Frankie made me feel like I was nothing. I have never been made to feel so terrible in my life by anybody. Frankie should not be employed there either, given her lack of wanting to help patrons and refusing to do anything to work with me for absolutely no reason other than that is not how things are done in your office anymore! You just lost an entire family full of business....a family FULLY insured and who pays any and all copays in full and on time.

The office manager, Corina, spent some extra time with me to put me at ease while going over the treatment plan (BC I was freaking out with anxiety in addition to the throbbing pain that had consumed my entire head at that point). He was gentle, thorough, and still managed to make me laugh despite my circumstances. I am so grateful I came here. They rushed a temp tooth/partial for me, so that I wouldn't have a hole in my smile while waiting for my bone to heal.
