When I called to book my appointment, I had a horrible sinking feeling in my stomach and was not looking forward to coming at all. The person who answered the phone, who I assume is the owner and manager, was very rude. She demanded that I paid her the Groupon price directly, as if this is how it works at all. I had to repeat myself over and over again that if I liked the services I was happy to return. Well, the day came and we arrived early. The employees, two females, were not aware of our appointment at all but still took us in after a lot of back and forth screaming and messaging with the boss lady. I requested 2 massages. The spa is is located in a plaza in Pleasanton. First, when we entered there was no receptionist to greet us. I was fine waiting since we were 15 minutes early. I heard someone speaking in Chinese, Mandarin, Taiwanese, something of the like. Then one lady acknowledged us, but she called another lady to talk to us. I told the lady about the services we wanted and she told me the price. She asked what method of payment we would be doing I said card. She showed me they have a $5 surcharge for cards. Which I was ok with. I was going to pay for 1 massage with my money. But when I said I'm also using Groupon like everyone's experience here I had a bad one. The lady kept insisting I come back tomorrow which is Friday, which I retorted, "What if I don't come back?" I booked the massages for a specific day for a reason. She told me to call her boss and I got no answer. Funny because the number I called, called me 3 times prior to coming for my appointment. Rather than relax this place made me more upset and frustrated. I will never come back here again. Please do not waste your time, money, and energy going here. After our first massage we came back a few times and I even sent my patients from work there. BIG MISTAKE! this last time we went we were overcharged and then one of the girls DEMANDED a tip and was not going to let us leave (my wallet was in the car). Then she kept pushing to take a picture of my banking app on my phone as proof that it was sent or something. She was extremely rude and pushy and the person I am assuming is the owners husband was rude too! So let me just say this... 1. A tip is NOT mandatory. TIPS actually stands for- to insure proper service. If a person does not feel like leaving a tip there is probably a good reason. A worker is not entitled to anything besides their pay. Tips are additional benefits for good service. 2. You are in the service/hospitality industry! Treat your customers with a little more respect as they are the ones literally funding your life. 3. Give people more than 30 seconds to get undressed/redressed before knocking on the door a million times. It makes people anxious and feel like they are being rushed. 4. Get someone to work the front (who has the capability to communicate and understand English/other languages competently) and have that be their only job. A receptionist/host type deal. 5. If the concern is getting a tip add the price of it into the base price of the massage as a gratuity and disclose it to the customer. Overall it was a super disappointing and infuriating experience that left a sour taste in my mouth. My partner and I booked a couples massage using a Groupon voucher. The second we mentioned the voucher at the front desk, the staff's demeanor completely changed. They became hostile, demanded to know why we used Groupon, and claimed they don't accept vouchers on weekends (which was nowhere in the fine print). After hesitantly accepting it, the therapist took us back to the room and pulled a blatant shakedown: she demanded an unadvertised $20 "room fee" just to change in private. If we didn't pay it, she told us we had to change out in the hallway near reception behind a sheer curtain. Forcing clients to pay extra for basic privacy or face exposure in a public hallway is predatory, unprofessional, and a massive violation of personal safety. Surprisingly never saw this place even I stop by here quite often. My daughter and I used separate rooms instead of couple room for bigger places. The single room is spacious and clean with clean towels and blanket. Services - the lady owner is nice & welcoming! Technicians are professional and caring. I did deep tissue pressure massage while my daughter did hot stone. Both were satisfactory. No one asked or chased for tips. I have $15-20/person as I used a promotional rate. Worth every penny! Went for a massage today after buying a Groupon. I think I only spent about $57 for the Groupon after a promotional sale. The lady at the front desk kept on asking me how much I paid for it and trying to sell me other services. The massage was ok, although kind of uncomfortable sometimes. But I chalk it up to maybe she thought she was doing a deep tissue massage on certain parts of my body. At the end, I gave her a $10 tip. She didn't seem too happy and then told the other massage staff (in Chinese) that I gave her $10. To me, a $10 tip for a $57 massage I paid for is decent. I think the actual Groupon price without the discount would have been $75. I also work in customer service and my bit of advice is, if someone gives you a tip, appreciate it, no matter how little you think it is. It's a tip. It's voluntary. No one has to give you one. Gratitude is a very important part of how to be happier in life. Being ungrateful and dissatisfied all the time is a surefire way of being perpetually miserable in life. The part that makes me not recommend this place is when everything was finished and we came out the lady who provided the service asked how much we paid for everything and that threw me off and then she asked how we would be tipping and continued to inform us that cash was the preferred.
