I've been suffering from sciatic pain for over 6 months. I dreaded getting up each morning because I knew the pain would be unbearable and last all day. I went to see Dr. Fretty on the recommendation of a friend. Dr. Fretty suggested a spinal decompression therapy that required 3 office visits per week for 8 weeks. I'll admit, it seemed like a lot, especially since I came from 45 minutes away. The pain worsened, and I decided to give Dr. Fretty's recommendation a try. It was that or I felt I would be suffering from this for the rest of my life. I am in week 6 of treatment, and I am so very happy to finally have relief. In the previous weeks, I was at a pain level of 10 for most of the day. A few weeks later, my pain gradually went from all day pain to severe morning pain with tingling during the day. For the past 5 days I have not experienced the morning pain. For the first time in months, I am thinking that I do not have to live with this for the rest of my life. If you are experiencing sciatica, I highly recommend Dr. Fretty's practice. He is compassionate and sincerely cares for his patients. I am so glad I took the leap and committed to this therapy. I hope you find this review helpful and give Dr. Fretty the opportunity to help you get back to a pain free life, too. read more

I saw Dr. Fretty during a Bay Area trip and the adjustment he gave me IMMEDIATELY eased my back pain! He also treated my husband for a pinched nerve that was causing neck and ear pain - the pain was gone before he got off the table! Clearly, the best adjustment I ever have had. Dr Fretty used a traction system that decompressed my disc. pricing for his treatment is priceless yet ocean chiropractic is very reasonable for the quality or service and professional care. read more

Just wow. 1. I was receiving 'treatment' with 3 other people. NOT a dedicated 1 to 1. 2. He gave me hot pack and asked me to lay down for 30 minute. For those 30 minute, he will walk around to receive phone call or talk to other people. 3. After that, he pressed the massage machine that could be bought from Amazon for 30 dollar for 5 minutes and asked me whether I feel better or not. 4. Although I had to pay $249 for his 'service', it was discounted to $99. 5. "Do you have insurance?" "I will call you later" "Trust me, I did jiu jitsu, wrestling, racing, and all kinds of thing when I was young" I bet this guy never took physiology class. It is better to pay your friend $40 to massage you for 10 minute. NOT a dedicated 1 to 1, constantly walks around to talk to other people. It feels like a guy who retired without any kind of degree just opened up the chiropractic business. To the people who is leaving five stars, how much did you got paid? It seems like he paid decent amount of money for both google review and yelp review. read more

Not what I expected from a chiropractor, didn't examine me when I first went there and during the next several weeks I spent more time waiting for my appointment than actually receiving any treatment. Treatment was done in a room with several other patients. I was referred by my lawyer . Care was given haphazardly. Select another chiropractor because I got no relief from my pain. read more

This is follow up since last review. I have a nerve problem and I thought it would go away after several treatments. However, I learn it takes many sessions before issue goes away completely. It's always a pleasure seeing Jessica who checks me in. She's always cheerful and it's always stress-free when I'm there. Dr. Fretty knows his stuff. I'd gone to Kaiser and they couldn't really help me except giving me physical therapy video which has its limits and option for pain relief drug. I like how Fretty does drug free treatments and has plan to resolve my problem. People come in with pain and patients come out feeling better. That's a great job. read more

10/10, would always come again! Whenever I have lower back/hip pain from my occasional runs or when I lift something wrong while working, I make sure to book an appointment to check in with Dr. Fretty. Front desk is always so warm and welcoming when I swing by for my appointments and sessions as well, making sure everything is checked out in terms of what kind of pain I had, was feeling, and how it happened to give proper context to what I needed help with. Talking with Dr. Fretty for the first time about my back pain problems, he put me on game and explained the possible reasons for why I was feeling pain in the first place, which stemmed on how much strain I've been putting on my lower back and made a lot of sense looking back at how I went about physical activity (the way I ran, using improper running shoes when running on concrete, the way I lifted things, etc.) It really gave me a different prospective like, "dang, maybe I've been doing all these things wrong and that's why I'm feeling like this." Throughout each session I've had, I've always gotten advice on how to take care of my body, was taught stretches to do to ease the pain I was having in my lower back, and they also made sure I was comfortable through the whole process. My back pain has eased since my sessions and following through with the stretches taught and advice given. I've been maintaining the knowledge I've learned from my experience here and made sure to keep myself in check about it, so this is a huge thank you to Dr. Fretty and his team for the best chiropractic experience! read more

Be very weary of receiving treatment here. I am left with nerve pain for past year since visiting here: in the opposite shoulder that I went in to get adjusted,. I had just moved to the neighborhood and wanted chiropractor closer by than my previous one. Unfortunately for me, Yelp reviews seemed to tell a good story about this chiropractor Dr Maurice. I went in to get my right shoulder adjusted. After 30 mins of just laying on a table. He walked up to where I was laying down, and adjusted my left shoulder abruptly after asking me "which shoulder again?" He didn't wait for the answer, then after just walked away back to his office. I have trapped nerve pain in my left shoulder and arm ever since. I shd have went with my instincts instead of trusting yelp reviews. When I walked in he asked are you here from a car accident? And when I said no, the glint went out of his eye and his tone went from almost gleeful to bored as he told me to check in with his front desk lady ( who is very sweet btw). I also heard this same kind of exchange, with others who walked in for treatment. He clearly like patients who have been in car accidents!! Save yourself pain and go elsewhere. read more

I came in for lower back pain as I have a pars defect. I've been to many different chiropractors since I was a teenager and each have their own technique. I decided to try out this office, first thing I noticed while I was sitting in the waiting room were people coming in for their appointments and leaving literally 5 minutes later, I thought that was a bit strange. Then when it was my turn I noticed they put 4 patients in the same room, he does a quick adjustment and you're done. He literally just cracked my back in 3 spots and it was over. I'm used to chiropractors spending time with you and muscle testing and checking where things are unbalanced but it was just a quick crack and done. Maybe this works for some people but it doesn't justify the price and quality to me. I don't think this is the right office for me but maybe it works for others. Just my opinion! read more

Dr. Fetty is nothing but amazing! Dr. Fetty has been an amazing being in my life by helping me out with my pain. I had a lot of pain after my accident and after a few months of rehab I started to understand what it will take to physically be in the best shape possible. Dr. Fetty's facility is super clean and he makes sure it stays that way. I never noticed anything messy in my time coming to him. read more

He does a great job after everytime I had an accident during racing, people call Dr. Fetty as Dominic when he is not in his office.

Dr. Fretty is first and foremost incredibly honest and very inexpensively priced compared to some. He is just real and will provide information, suggestions and advice that supports you into healing your alignment/back issues in multiple ways which are in addition to his chiro work. I have had alignment issues my entire life and slowly that is all changing with his help and work. Also he has done what is called a Nasal Specific technique on me (usually top athletes do this) which opens and clears the sinuses. It is making such an incredible difference. I stand and breathe better. There are free evaluations so there is really no reason not to get an understanding of your back, spine and alignment health. I highly recommend Dr. Fretty! read more

I tried this place because of all the 5 star reviews here on yelp. However, I really wanted to like Dr.Fretty, but after seeing him for a while, I had no signs of improvement. Plus, I didn't like the fact that he seems to be very arrogant and when I first stepped into his office, he was saying the cause of my pain could be from when I was a baby and I was delivered wrong or was dropped?!? I was like WTF?!? All you do every time is go in, get some ice or heat on you for 5-10 mins, then he comes by, cracks you in less than 2 minutes and off you go. I didn't really feel this was that great of treatment. I do want to say they are flexible in payment plans and that the front desk, Laurie, is one of the sweetest ladies I have ever met. Overall, I just wasn't happy with my results with not a single sign of improvement. If anything, I think I feel a little worse. Time to try elsewhere. read more

Dr. Fretty's office is laid back and casual, just the kind of relaxed atmosphere that might put a gal with a jacked-up spine at ease. Dr. Fretty sat me down with a short video to quickly and simply explain chiropractics and I instantly felt less intimidated. A good friend of mine had been getting adjusted by the good Dr. Fretty for a while, and it keeps her energetic and sharp as a tack. So when I got injured, the first person I thought of to help me out was guess who. I won't feed you some fairytale about how he waved a magic wand and I was instantly cured, but I was feeling MUCH better than I did when I first walked into his office. It's amazing what the correct alignment of your bones can do for your well-being! Depending on what kind of health plan you have, you can easily be feeling as good as me for about $10 a pop (a pun, ha!). Oh yeah, Dr. Fretty's kind of easy on the eyes, to boot. Sure to leave the office with a goofy smile. read more

It's been five months since 11/6/2015. I'm quite disappointed to find Dr. Maurice Keith Fretty loosing his concentration in healing my lower back pain. I have to constantly ask if he remembers my x-ray, because he touches and he is breaking bones, basically, assuming on every adjustment without letting me know. Dr. Maurice Keith Fretty and his medical assistant, Laurie (Lory), are one of those people who have the notion such as for example, "I got your money, so what are you going to do about it?" Hmmm...... I don't like that. I had to get outside hospital emergency care. He gave me new injuries and problems, instead of helping or curing. Causing people to become disabled. Cannot trust this place anymore. Terrible! I want this office to pay me back, for his sins, he cannot reverse. Dr. Maurice Keith Fretty is NOT a good doctor, NOT honest, NOT trust-able, and is a BAD doctor who hurted me on 3/25/2016, his adjustment got me to tasted blood. Internal injuries. Shortness in breath. Chest pain. Stroke and dislocated arm. He is not a hero I thought he would be. He cannot save a life. read more

I saw Dr Fretty a few times and overall a very nice guy who wants the best for his clients. There was a bit of a lack of communication which caused me to end my sessions with him but I still think he is a good chiropractor. I recommend with reservations. read more

My lower back has been a problem for more than half my life. As I march forward into my 30s, what was once an off-and-on irritation has become a constant and debilitating, life-altering problem. I was unable to put on my shoes, or to even stand up straight without sharp pain in my back that ran down my legs and radiated through my whole body. Even after taking excessive amounts of advil and aleve, I was close to tears each day, not able to find a comfortable position to save my life. One visit to Dr. Fretty and I already felt a million times better. That first night I slept great and felt like a whole new person the next day. I was still achy of course, but it was different, more bearable. I am not saying that I am cured, but now, 2 appointments in, I couldn't be more grateful for my decision. Besides being an amazing chiropractor, he is a very nice, very mellow person, which makes you feel immediately at ease. He and I agreed on a 4 week plan to set my back right and get me back to doing yoga. I have faith he'll meet my expectations... read more

Dr. Fretty is amazing. When my hip went out, I immediately thought of Ocean Chiropractic because Dr. Fretty has been taking care of a friend of mine and I knew his treatments are very effective. Careful, caring adjustments have made me feel like I can walk again. Thank you, Dr. Fretty! read more

I agree with Pudgy's review. Dr. Fretty did seem a bit arrogant. He had assumed that I had lower back pain when only my neck was troubling me. He had worked on my lower back ignoring treatments to my neck for many sessions. When I did question about treatments to my neck, he again bragged his credentials to me, telling me the number of hours (not years) that he has been treating patients and that I shouldn't question his treatments.. His office is set up in an open space like a barber shop with beds lined up next to each. As a patient, I felt I had very little or no privacy. On the other hand, Laurie the assistant deserves a four star for being wonderfully friendly and fantastic for helping me with my billing and my appointments. read more

My husband and I have been coming here for a while now. Dr. Fretty has helped both of us with chronic issues we both have, necks and upper backs. The main issue people have (i am guilty myself) is falling off the healing schedule and stop showing up as much after you start feeling a little better. You have to trust the process and be patient with your body. And i also suggest on getting massages because it can help a lot. Sometimes adjustments can only go so far. Shout out to the beautiful receptionist Lori. Always a beautiful smile and warm welcoming. read more

I have never yelped anything...ever, but after today I felt compelled. I have seen Dr. Fretty since 2003 and have always had a POSITIVE experience. Dr. Fretty is kind, personable, compassionate, and very good at what he does! His office is clean, and his receptionists are always sweet and helpful. The energy of the office is always mellow and peaceful (even when he's busy), and I like that. Today, I went to Dr. Fretty's office to get adjusted after a bike accident, and to ask him for a referral for someone closer to my home. He was extremely helpful, referred me to a friend of his from school, and wished me well with my new chiropractor. He didn't just wish me well because he "should," he did it because he's a really great person and he wants the best for his clients. The truth is, I doubt I'll find another chiropractor like Dr. Fretty, and so I might end up bearing the commute to keep seeing him. Who knows? I'm very thankful to Dr. Fretty for 7 years of great chiropractic care! My lower back pain was constant and unbearable. Every morning, it took me ten minutes to straighten up after getting out of bed. I also had (I assumed unrelated) hip pain that made it uncomfortable to walk any distance. I was virtually disabled by the pain. After a particularly bad episode in which I lay flat on my kitchen floor for most of the morning, unable to even roll over, I went to see Dr. Fretty at Ocean Chiropractic. After two adjustments, the pain in my hip disappeared; after a few more, the pain in my lower back eased. With a stretching and exercise program he helped me develop, I'm almost completely pain-free. I can't recommend Dr. Fretty strongly enough. His care has improved my life dramatically! read more

Dr. Fretty is a really caring chiropractor. He has helped me a lot. I have very little back pain anymore.

Dr. Fretty is a totally laid back guy. I train at the gym a few doors down and the owner there knows Dr. Fretty and completely trusts him. I dislocated some bones in my foot from training in jiu jitsu and I've been coming to him ever since. Great guy, nothing but nice things to say. Calm, no-frills office, appointments are pretty much drop-in during hours, and in a really convenient location. read more

I rarely ever write negative reviews and I am a very forgiving person, but I did not have a good experience with Dr. Fretty. My background is that I have experienced a lot of pain from a lower back injury I got in 2014. It comes and goes and was believed to be a slipped disc. I have been able to deal with it just by going and getting a massage and felt better for months. But recently, I started to receive a flare up and the pain has been lasting way longer than usual so I decided to go see a chiropractor. I grew up in LA and had an amazing one so I was confident in going to see someone in the field. When I walked in I immediately got a weird vibe. The office is set up in a way where patients have no privacy and Dr. Fretty over laps about 5 people at once. It in no way feels personal, it felt like I was apart of a assembly line. He took my x rays and when they came back he told me the fluid was not working correctly and my x rays were blurry...but it was "good enough" to get the picture. I felt this was pretty unprofessional. I am in intense pain and would like "doctor" to take it seriously. So anyway, he tries explaining to me what my x ray means but he explained it so scientifically I had no idea what he was even talking about. I have a college degree so it's not like I am an idiot. But I told him to explain it to me like I was an idiot because I truly did not understand what he was talking about. He explained it again, just as complex so I left without answers. All I knew was this guy said I wouldn't feel better until after 6 sessions. As I was walking out, he handed me a hand out on the paleo diet and said I needed to lose 10 lbs. I am a 23 year old female currently in recovery for an eating disorder so this to me was unacceptable. You do not know me and you do not know how that kind of comment is going to affect someone. So once again, I felt a large amount of unprofessionalism on his part. He told me to come back in 3 days (cuz the weekend was approaching) but I couldn't work in the condition I am in so I had to go to the ER to get some painkillers. When I went to go see Dr. Fretty a few days later, he was not happy with me that I did that. He said "I told you it would take 12 sessions before you felt better" (Um he originally said 6...and now it was 12) I told him I can't work in this condition and needed some kind of relief and he said "Well I didn't expect you to be able to work" uhhh what? I HAVE to work. So then he spends two minutes adjusting me (which is way more aggressive than I prefer, especially when I am suffering from so much pain) and sent me on my way. I have been in contact with my MD because I am so incredibly frustrating with the condition I am in. The MD says that I could possibly have a tumor in my spine or arthritis. So.... yeah. Only positive thing I got from them is they are very cool about money. They create payment plans so you do not stress if you're not covered. I wish it could have worked out for me, but it just didn't. *Edit from original post* I have since had an MRI which showed that I have 2 herniated discs AND arthritis in my lower back. read more
