I was in search of a chiropractor for my neck and back when I moved to San Francisco late last year & after speaking with co workers & a recommendation from someone at a mattress store on Geary, I visited SF Custom Chiropractic. After completing some forms & electronic questionnaire, I met with Dr. Remillard and discussed my concerns. After some stretches, he adjusted my neck and back & pretty much immediately felt better. I've been under regular treatment by Dr. Remillard for several months & have experienced a lot of improvement with my neck & back pain (primarily caused by my desk job & sleeping positions). I've been going in to see Dr. Ray Pulmano since early last Fall, and I have been feeling less back pains in the cold or wet winter weather. I've also been seeing Dr. Pulmano for a hand injury from top rope rock climbing from August, and I can confidently say that he has been able to treat the soreness and pain successfully, to my surprise and amazement. I honestly never thought a bi-monthly exercise and quick massage to the affected areas would be enough to stabilize my ailing conditions and even to improve them, making them more bearable. I plan on continuing my sessions with Dr. Pulmano, though I think I probably just need to go in once every 3-4 weeks eventually for maintenance care! He's super friendly, shares a love for traveling with me, and overall, he's less like a medical provider and more like a really skilled and great friend. :) 10/10 would recommend him! read more

Highly recommend Dr. Jacobs and this location! It was my first visit to a chiropractor during COVID19 because of my lower back pain from all the sitting and not getting the normal exercise during this unprecedented time. I have been extra cautious with activities outside so it was really important for me to find a good doctor to help me recover and prevent from future lower back pains and also an office that's SAFE and takes all the covid measures! Appointment was QUICK to make and I felt SAFE visiting. They follow strict covid protocols (e.g., checking temperature, sanitizing stations and tablet which you use to check in, staff members wearing masks, minimizing facing directly each other). Sanitizers and wipes are in every corner and there's only a receptionist and doctor in the office. I've visited 3 times so far and at most there are 3 people (doc, receptionist and another patient). Initial assessment was very thorough - asking all pain points, degrees of pain, etc. Dr. Jacobs took time to ask follow-up questions and understand my history. He explained to me what the issue was, causes and what I have to do in order to feel better and prevent from having another muscle strain by walking me through quick and effective exercises I can do at home, educating me on how to sit/ stretch/ stand in good posture. I just had my 3rd visit. His massages/ stretches that he does on my spine have been very effective - I couldn't walk properly 2 days before my visit, and a few days after my first visit, I immediately started to feel better and had minimal pain. He mentioned on day 1 of the visit, I may feel a bit sore because of all the massages and alignments he made, but I felt fine. It's been 10 days, and my back feel more aligned and my core and back feels stronger because of the massages he gave and exercises he recommended! Well ... that all changed after my first visit over 8 years ago and I've been a patient ever since. Dr. Jacobs has helped me overcome migraines and jaw tension from stress, back pain from sitting at a chair and working on a computer, and a little stunt of vertigo that occurred last year. The team is always extremely thoughtful and helpful. The sanitation process between clients is (and always has been) extremely thorough and now with COVID, they've done a fantastic job spacing out clients to help ensure everyone can stay at a safe distance. The warmup machine before each session is amazing and helps get your body relaxed and stretched for the adjustment. I came to see Dr. Scott Mills after having a super stiff upper back/neck area. The feeling where you are turning your entire body to look at someone versus being able to turn your neck, couldn't do it. I thought I would be cool if I did some stretches and chilled out, but after a week, it was getting worse. I was waking up with pain in my neck, tilting my head to say yes or no was painful. I made an appointment to see Dr. Mills on Monday and the following day, I immediately felt better. I forgot what it was like to get out of bed without having to be ultra careful on my movements. I have a follow up appointment with him later this week, and am very excited because I know I will be getting back to normal with his treatment. In my first appointment, he did an excellent job of providing the right level of information for me. I liked how he explained what was going on and what he recommended I do and what was within his medical scope to tell me. The SF Custom Chiro team have been nothing short of incredible for the last 10 years. For much of my time there I've had normal desk job issues and they did a great job. I recently got into a bad accident and needed a more thorough inspection and adjustment. Dr. Jacobs was thoughtful, helpful, made me feel comfortable, and most importantly, I felt better than I ever thought I could leaving that session. In almost a year of hospitals and doctors and physical therapists he's one of the only people to thoughtfully review my records BEFORE I walked into his office and have an idea of a plan for my treatment. Dr. Jacobs is the best chiropractor I've had. I was recommended to him through my personal trainer (www.sknstone.com) and I could not be happier with the expertise and care Dr. J provides. He is patient with questions, knows how to get to the root of the problem, and combined with my training I've never been in better shape. I've had chronic back pain since my early 20s, but since seeing Dr. J and my trainer, I hadn't had a flare up in 2 years. Flash forward to January 2021 and the effects of not seeing Dr. J for 9 months and general stress finally caught up with me. I threw out my hip, and during a move no less. I was nervous about going during COVID19, however, at the Russian Hill location I was the only patient in the office each time I went. Second, Beth is an outstanding massage therapist. Some discomfort is a necessary part of a productive massage, but under her attentiveness and expertise, I feel relaxed. Last but not least, Dr. Pulmano is THE BEST. Adjustments can be a bit intimidating and unpleasant, but with him they are actually something I look forward to. Dr. Jacobs is awesome! He comes to my work, so it was super convenient seeing him. It was also my first time working with a chiropractor. He gave me some great exercises and was happy to work around my aversion to (i.e. not happening at all, ever) neck adjustments. I also loved his story of how he came to be a chiropractor; he wanted to become an MD when he experienced a football injury. He was recommended surgery for it but decided to try working with a chiropractor first. That completely healed his injuries and inspired him to change his career path to become a chiro, too! I had been working with Dr. Pulmano for the past 6 months. I've always carried a lot of tension in my upper body and also have bad shin splints from overuse. Dr. Pulmano is the best! He's been wonderful to work with and has given some great tips/recommendations on stretching exercises to help relieve any upper body tension. Are you experiencing pain? Or maybe things just don't feel quite right. I cannot recommend Dr. Jacobs enough. I was experiencing some discomfort/pain in my hip so I started seeing him a few years ago. After a few visits we realized there was more going on, so he referred me to have x-rays taken. With this information in hand we have been able to put together a game plan to keep it in check. He recommended a standing desk for work (you'll notice he himself uses one) which I love. He also referred me to an amazing massage therapist. With a background in sports, he's been amazing in recommending exercises and modifications to my workouts. My hip doesn't prevent me from doing things but this knowledge has helped me stay active and encouraged. While your appointment might only be a few minutes, Dr. Jacobs truly takes the time to get to know you as a person not just a patient. I have visited him in both his offices and his staff is always friendly and helpful as well. I always enjoy the rolling table and minor massage at the beginning of my appointment. I won't be in SF forever and I'm going to truly be bummed when I won't be able to visit anymore. read more

Dr. Mills, the team and there knowledge has brought a drastic improvement to my day to day life by reducing my leg pain. I had an injury playing tennis 2 years ago(hamstrings, pes anserine bursitis), which made walking, sitting, and any other type of movement incredibly painful. I went to 3 orthopedics, I had MRI's for both of my legs (which showed nothing wrong), I went to 3 different physical therapists for 6 months total( did not help at all), I had injections, I tried everything. Nothing really improved my condition, the doctors had nothing more they could offer, but then I discovered ART therapy and SF Custom Chiro. After one session I noticed a positive, lasting improvement. After a few sessions with Dr. Mills, he recommended deep tissue massage in addition to his treatment plan and they complimented each other giving me great results! This review is long overdue. I wish I could give more than five stars for Dr. Jacobs & Beth Binegar! For the last 1.5 years I have been going once a month for a deep tissue massage with Beth and then for an adjustment right after with Dr. Jacobs. This is the reason that my back & neck pain are better. They are truly amazing! Starting with the massage. Beth really makes you feel at ease and perfectly targets the areas that have been bothering me within the month. It is by far the best massage and really works on the numerous knots I seem to accumulate. On to the adjustment with Dr. Jacobs. While I love the back adjustment I tend to be nervous about having my neck adjusted. The visits that it needs it Dr. Jacobs does an amazing job of calming me down and talking me through it. I kickbox and play volleyball so he always gives me great suggestions for exercises to do in between visits. I am so glad I found SF Custom Chiropractor and Dr. Jacobs & Beth. I had Noy, massage therapist. She was very good. I would rate the office 4 of 5 stars because it is significantly more expensive than some other places in the area. For example, a place called Massage Envy charged $80 for one full hour, while SF Custom charges $70 for just 30 minutes. Also: Massage Envy's environment is more relaxing, overall. They have a "quiet room" customers wait in before the therapist greets them. In this room there are comfortable chairs and various teas to choose from. SF custom has a water cooler only. SF custom also asks you to fill out more paperwork and sign more waivers before you start your appointment, which seemed mostly unnecessary, as the therapist just asks you the same questions again, once you meet. I would suggest Noy to do your massage, but maybe she is available at an office with more reasonable rates. read more

After 3 months of being treated by SF Custom Chiropractic and Dr. Pulmano, I am extremely pleased with the results. Over the last two decades, I have utilized different chiropractors for extended treatment plans, all with good results. I knew what I could achieve from chiropractic work. The reason for my visit was due to a ball of foot issue on my right foot that happened two years ago. I had met with a couple of podiatrists over the first year and a half, and followed their quick recommendations of basic orthotics, which offered a small amount of relief. Not satisfied with the results, I decided to give the chiropractic solution a try. The results have been quite amazing. Through a series of intense treatment on my foot, and custom orthotics, the pain is 99% gone and my mobility has returned. As a distance runner and skier, this is important to me. While I was there, I also got treatment on my shoulders, which were quite stiff and sore, with limited range of motion. I could not sleep on my sides. This is now solved and I can sleep on my sides without incurring pain. Dr. Pulmano truly knows how to heal. For me, it has been a huge change and has encouraged me to get healthier through activity again. I'm so glad that I didn't settle for permanent pain. If you're dealing with any sort of muscle or joint pain, go see Dr. Scott Mills today. I honestly can't recommend him enough - especially if you're involved in sports or fitness. He's taken me from debilitating injuries causing constant pain to absolutely zero pain, with increased mobility and athletic performance as an added benefit. This past year I ramped up my fitness with a more serious CrossFit and Olympic Weightlifting program. I also turned 30, and with the added strain from lifting my body just didn't seem to bounce back like it used to. I ended up with shoulder injuries that caused burning pain every time I lifted overhead, and tendonitis in my wrist that would get aggravated any time it was flexed. Scott took the time to listen to me, asked the right questions about my fitness and lifestyle, and performed a full body assessment. After two sessions, my pain was gone. When we'd addressed my primary complaints, he was quick to recommend that we only continue sessions when needed. A few years ago I was diagnosed with muscle spasms in my neck and shoulders. The cause? 15 years of bad posture during nonstop computer use, the fact that I literally carry every stress I ever experience in my neck and shoulders, the fact that my shoulders are always hunched up when I'm cold, the list goes on. The spasms were so bad I could barely function. I was thrown on hefty pain medication then told to also get massage and physical therapy (and to give you an idea of how tight my muscles are, when my PT first worked with me and felt how tight my neck and shoulders were his eyes went wide and he literally exclaimed "Oh my god!"). Both MT and PT got me out of severe pain thankfully, but once PT ended, it felt like I was just *managing* chronic muscle tightness with MT but not actually achieving anything to improve muscle tightness in the long-term. The pain was a lot less of course, but there was always a low-to-medium hum of pain no matter what every single day. I've been seeing Dr. Pulmano for a few months now and I really love how comprehensive and holistic the care is. Sure they do the typical chiropractic work (snap, crackle, pop), but there are muscle warmups prior to the adjustment and then stretches and exercises are provided to me specifically tailored to address my problem areas. And instead of throwing a giant list at me to do every single day, Dr. Pulmano provided one stretch or exercise at each appointment to do every day to ease me into a routine. The stretches are working through the tightness and the exercises are working to strengthen me to have good posture - and do so without having to even think about it. They also have massage therapists on site, and it's been great to receive massage therapy immediately followed up by an adjustment. At this point, my pain is down to a "low hum" and thanks to the care here and Dr. Pulmano. Dr. Pulmano even said point blank that his ultimate goal is to eventually not see me at all, because that would mean I am no longer dealing with pain. Though I enjoy Dr. Pulmano's pleasant demeanor and the friendliness of the staff here, I too look forward to achieving that goal and I have confidence that I will get there thanks to coming here. read more

I had a problem on my TMJ for a long time. It was as sever as I could not open my mouth. I was recommended to see a specialist by my dentist, so I went to see a spwcialist. All I got was a medication for relaxing muscle. I did a lot of research and I found here. After seeing Dr.Pulmano, I could see a huge difference on my face. My pain gradually went away, my face got smaller and most of all, I can open my mouth with no problem. He is very kind and listen to you and your body. From the repetitive world of retail, I had developed a lot of scar tissue in my left arm and Dr Jacobs did such a great job starting to break it up. I only wish that my insurance didn't change, thus requiring that I pay out of pocket if I wanted to continue to go (which I couldn't, so I didn't.) I went to Dr. Jacobs on the recommendation of my bootcamp instructor. I had never been to a chiropractor before so I didn't have very high expectations. Not only was bootcamp causing me EXTENSIVE pain, but I was recovering from plantar fasciitis and tendonitis in my feeet. I was a bit of a wreck. I signed up for the package deal of 15 sessions and began noticing improvements immediately. I also kept doing bootcamp so I was getting stronger and followed (mostly) the instructions Dr Jacobs gave me for exercising my feet and icing. Last thing, I got a foam roller to use after workouts. After 15 sessions of massage and ART, I still have some pain in my feet on occasion, but I'd say I've experienced about 95% improvement from where I was. Aside from feeling better, I want to say that everyone I encountered at SF Custom Chiropractic was super upbeat, nice, and great at giving massages!
