This review and rating are for the optician service at Ocala Eye, Laurel Manor Office in The Villages. With this input, I hope to regain my trust in the opticians' services I have been using for years. A couple of weeks ago, I purchased two pairs of glasses; in one pair, the frame did not fit tightly around the lens. I came twice to report the problem; unfortunately, each time there was a long wait, and the optician advised me to come back at 8:00 AM when the office is slow. Following the advice, I arrived at 8 AM, an optician assistant, showed up around 8:10 AM. I asked about the opticians, and the assistant told me they were both running late. The optician assistant offered to take care of my glasses and, upon examining them, optician assistant announced that the frames are ok and, if I want, she might warm up the eye glasses frame, which might tighten the grip on the frame on the lenses. That solution did not make any sense to me and I 'sinsisted on seeing the optician, who showed up around 8:25 AM and told me that, indeed, the eyeglass frame is defective, admitted that she had missed inspecting it, and offered a replacement. Clearly, the optician assistant was incorrect in her evaluation of the frame. If I had not questioned her judgment and kept the defective frame, I would have missed the 60-day window to report the problem with the new glasses and would therefore be stuck with the defective frame or incur expensive repairs. I feel that the customers returning defective product should be a priority bypassing the waiting line. But if that is impossible and instead optician suggests to came at 8:00 AM to avoid waiting then logically an optician (at least one of them) should be be in the office on time, right?! Also, the opticians' staff at Ocala Eye at Laurel Manor may consider maintaining professional standards of healthcare workers which may include using the phrase "I am sorry" when appropriate. read more

i always wait a long time over a hour but this time was worse , the asian lady that put me in the room waiting for DR sammy was just mean and nasty they took a picture of my eye and I said that looks cool and I wanted to take a picture she went off telling me I can't and I was texting my wife and then she slammed the monitor against the wall , then she walked me to the front desk and made a face to the girl walking by , I could tell because the girl just smiled at me , I understand that people have bad days but there's no need to be nasty , it's not my fault . read more

Sandra and all of the staff at the Ocala Eye Surgery Center were all very kind and caring! The facility has indoor seating for patients and their families and they also have a little outdoor area for families of the patient having surgery where they can grab a little snack and juice if/when they need to. Families are also updated frequently on their loved one's status during and after surgery. Thank you all so much. read more

I've been a patient of Dr. Morris since 2005 when he was referred to me by my Dr. in So. FL. because of his credentials. My main problem is glaucoma however I am legally blind in one eye. He and his staff are caring and understanding professionals. I would highly recommend Dr. Morris and Ocala Eye. read more

I've been a patient of Ocala Eye since 2022. The office is well maintained and the staff is efficient and pleasant. I wear contacts, so my appointment is a bit more involved. A this time, there is only one optometrist who deals with contacts. I've had two interactions with Dr Paglia, neither of which was very pleasant. He is of the opinion that no one should wear contacts all day. I've been wearing contacts for over 30 years. Had eye exams every year, no other optometrist has ever told me not to wear them all day. Why would anyone bother wearing contacts if they could wear them just a few hours a day! Ridiculous! However, Dr Paglia was adamant of the dangers of over wearing....serious eye problems, etc. Needless to say, eye care is very important but should not eliminate wearing contacts. I had an annual appointment coming up in November, which I was dreading because of his attitude. Thankfully, I have found another optometrist recently. In my quest to get cataract surgery at Ocala Eye, I felt there was excessive testing, poor communications, failure to call back as promised, insisted on primary physician physical - but never sent out proper paper work, did not discuss possibility of temporary blindness after cataract surgery that lasted over a week, office help was rude and did not follow through. Ended up going to a different eye surgeon for my other cataract surgery. I experienced none of the above as the second surgery was a very positive experience - unlike that at the Ocala Eye. I would not refer anyone to Ocala Eye based on my experience. read more

I had my annual eye exam a couple of weeks ago and I was there for almost 3 hours. They were running so late that they had to and ask the people in the Eyeglass store to stay. They give a very through exam, but your actual exam time is less than 1 hour. I just came from Florida Retina Institutes I had three different eye exams, with three different instruments, with three different people, in three different rooms, and examined by the doctor. I have been going to Ocala Eye for years. The Employee that does Insurance called to verify my insurance before my appointment. I tried to give her my Vision Insurance at which she said I just need your Medical. Me thinking it would rollover through my Medical insurance. I have a $10 co-pay with my Vision Insurance. What she did not say is that we do not take Vision Insurance because we do surgery's. It would of been that simple. After my appointment I received a bill for me to pay of almost $200. Then I went round and round with management. She kept telling me what the Insurance Employee never did and thought it was expectable. She even pulled the call and heard how the conversation went. So bottom line is if you have Vision Insurance DO NOT GO TO OCALA EYE. I had horrible service at Ocala Eye Heath Brook Office. I initially had my appointment on 6/16/22. at the Heath Brook office. I wasn't able to get a "correct" RX for my contacts until 8/16/22. The Rx for glasses wasn't corrected until the first week of September. That was almost 3 months later. Dr. Kathryn Pomakis was either sick or on vacation and when I did get an appt I was told that she was only available every other week. At first, I was told that there was no other doctor in their organization that could fit my contacts, so I had to wait for her. Then I was told that I could see Dr. Pomakis at their other offices. So, I saw her once at the 200 West Office where she told me she didn't have enough trial contact lenses for me to try and was directed back to the first office. Between official visits and me stopping by to get paperwork fixed, I was probably there 8 times. I am a senior and disabled and had to wait hours at appointments. I had a 12:15 appointment and was not seen by doctor until 2:20. Receptionists have an attitude. Paid $228 for exam. $79 at Walmart. Eye doctor was out of breath running from one room to another. Checked price of new glasses $606. Left and was floored by sunlight with dialated eyes. They never offered sunglasses. Later purchased 2 super pairs of glasses with all the options at SAMS for $540. My husband had an event in which he had a substance splashed his eye. After rinsing it for 15 minutes as directed on the label, he called this office for treatment. They said that the soonest they could take him was early the next morning. After giving them all his insurance info and them even calling back to confirm it all, he went the next morning for the appointment only to be told that they didn't accept out of state hmo plans nor would they accept cash payment! They refused him treatment. Crazy! Now, he probably should have gone right to urgent care when it happened, but he thought that if they told him it could wait 18 hours to see the doctor, that he didn't need urgent care. After Ocala Eye's refusal to treat him, I called Lange Eye center which took him in immediately, examined his injured eye, provided drops and sent him on his way. So, my suggestion to you need eye care and you think they might take your insurance you just might be very wrong---and they don't take cash! If you are an out-of-stater, go some place else! Personal experience with both my husband and me is to suggest you try Lange Eye Center! Luckily, there is no permanent damage to his eye. read more

I read the two bad reviews here and one pertains to the eyeglass part and the other pertains to the insurance aspect of it. I just had cataract surgery there and could have not been more satisfied. Before I had the surgery I thought I had a torn retina I called the office and Dr. Armstrong had me come immediately . I did not even have to wait once I arrived there. I find them to very professional and caring. They explained the whole process and addressed all my concerns. Highly recommend them. read more

I really hate the fact that my political views had to be dragged into my little world of yelpdom, however in this situation it is unavoidable. I somehow managed to scratch the lenses in my glasses and I decided to make an appointment to get an updated prescription and some new spectacles. I had been told that Ocala Eye was the nearest optometry clinic and I decided to make an appointment. I am a contractor, and although I earn a decent living, I can not afford the astronomical prices for any health, dental or vision insurance plans. The fact that I don't carry insurance has never stopped me from paying "out of pocket" when I need care. I still manage to get glasses, and visit the doctor when needed. When I attempted to make an appointment at Ocala Eye, I was denied care because I did not have insurance. I offered to pay any expenses up front, or even a deposit... To no avail they refused me service. I also feel that because I was challenging the morality behind this policy I was being treated like dirt. Honestly, any medical office that would refuse cash payment, or refuse care to anyone due to lack of insurance is a clear example of an entity abusing the already weak American health care system. There is no excuse for the lack of compassion and lack of respect for humanity that this clinic shows by keeping a policy as greedy and evil as Ocala Eye has. I will continue to boycott, and will no longer allow any of my friends or family to visit this clinic. If we allow health care businesses to maintain such policies, the uninsured will be forced to only visit the Wal-Mart optical clinic and fast food style urgent care clinics. I highly recommend that you steer clear of Ocala Eye, not only if you have no insurance, but also if you have a conscience. read more

After reading some of the past reviews about Ocala Eye, I totally agree with them regarding the fact that this place is just a money maker for the doctor(s) and they don't really care about the customer. I had a procedure called MOBI Treatment and it was completely worthless. They charged $225 that insurance does not cover. It was completely worthless and lasted for 10 minutes. That is $22.50 per minute for nothing. Even insurance does not cover the cost for this procedure, because they know it is a scam. One of their optometrists, Dr. Vish, also gave me an incorrect prescription and I had four (4) pairs of lenses made in Mexico (I go to Los Algodones for dental work) for over $400. All four were made to Ocala Eye's incorrect prescription. All four had to be sent back to Mexico to be replaced. I was without any glasses for over 10 days. A technician at Ocala Eye also gave me a second eye exam where the technician stated that a plus should have been a minus. Supposedly, the new prescription that they gave me would correct the problem, blurry vision in my right eye with the glasses. After I got my glasses back from Mexico, they are still not correct. I had another pair made with Lenscrafters for over $400 and they are also not right. I am out, so far, over $800. I can see clearly through my left lens, but the right lens is blurry. At least, I can see through one eye correctly-better than nothing. OCALA EYE HAS PROBLEMS!!! On top of my glasses problems with them, they want to scam myself and others with a procedure (MIBO) that is just a pure and plain ripoff. Don't fall for this scam. How many people have they scammed and ripped off with this useless procedure? I am going to go to Lenscrafters next week for a new prescription so that I can get to the bottom of this. Another $70 charge for what Ocala Eye should have done correctly the first time. I would look beyond Ocala Eye, The Villages if you want to avoid problems. At least, you will be able to see beyond them with another doctor. read more

If people would stop suing doctors, they would be more willing to see patients that don't have insurance. The real reason why you weren't seen had nothing to do with the fact that you were willing to pay for your visit. It is because if a doctor were to see you and you have no insurance, you are basically capable of suing them for not even giving you the perfect room. Having medical insurance covers you and the doctors that treat you. Also, to Therese, the refraction fee is NOT covered by Medicare and most insurances. It is a federal law. Check your Medicare book that none of you ever seem to read. The refraction is the part of the eye exam that gives you your prescription for glasses or contacts. And it is VERY important to have it done when getting a full eye exam. However, it has never been covered by medical health insurance save for one or two blue cross plans and UHC The Villages. I had gone for 2 year prior to this one. Not sure what is going on. The Doctor I liked has left. They never told me when I got there I was assigned to another Doctor. After 3.5 hrs. of being with the technician the Doctor appeared. We either had a personality class or I was totally exhausted. I was insulted several times by the tech and then the doctor. They kept telling me I had small eyes...dah..just what was I supposed to say? I could always see out of them before. After being jerked around and complaining about the time I was given a pair of contacts I didn't know what they were, power of brand. Naturally I complained and got the usual I'm sorry. I had to return some time later because I couldn't see..really?? they went over what they were doing but never were able to resolve the reason I was there. Oh yes, first he told me I had good eyes for my age and then he said my eyes were too old for contacts..hmmm. I did have follow up appt. but due to the fact I was unhappy and had already spent 2 days I couldn't make it because of work and couldn't trust their time involved or lapse. The moral of the story is, I don't recommend them and I still do not have contacts or new glasses.. Proceed at your own risk. read more

I had an eye exam at Ocala Eye in Ocala, a couple of years ago. I didn't like the whole experience, so for a couple of years, I went to chain eye store for my exams and glasses. Last year I was told that I needed cataract surgery. A friend told me of his positive experiences at Ocala Eye with his surgery, so I decided to give them another try. What a mistake. The office is still like a chaotic factory assembly line. They pack the waiting room with about thirty people at a time and then shuffle them each from room to room doing parts of the exam if you are dilated, there is another waiting room. After about an hour and fifty minutes, you get to see the doctor for a few minutes. I have had several appointments, and I have never gotten out of there in less than two hours. The doctor is always very rushed, and doesn't have time to adequately assess, which leads to mistakes. My cataract surgery was not good. After administrative mix-ups and lost records, I had the surgery. I was told beforehand that I would probably be able to see distance without glasses. I don't know for sure, but I assume the wrong lens was implanted. Out of the surgery eye, I can see clearly only about 18 inches, beyond that is a blur. The doctor said he didn't look at my history records, he said his assistant did that part. Bottom line, botched! His solution; to do the other eye and put in a distance lens so il will have one eye for close-up and one for distance. What if he botches the second eye? The eye that still has the cataract is now my good eye. I am now looking for another cataract surgeon. read more

I have medical insurance and speculate that the reason CASH payments are not accepted as this place is just a mill for billing you for unnecessary tests/treatments that are NOT covered by your insurance. For 20+ years a routine yearly eye exam was included as part of my $20 copay, but at Ocala Eye I was billed $50 for a refraction (which when I asked Dr. Polack he said was an essential part of a good eye exam) without notice. Then I went back to get test results and they wanted to do more testing. I said I was here to get results, did not need any pressure tests to hear the results of my last test but was assured it was part of the routine copay and no additional charge. WRONG--they billed my insurance for this test and are trying to get me to pay another $20 out of pocket from me--during a visit where I drove to Ocala and back, waited over 2 hrs to see the doctor and never saw him, and then told them I was leaving and would not pay a copay when I didn't see a doctor. This place is all about getting money for unnecessary treatment and tests and treats patients with a callous disregard for their time and finances. read more

I have had a very similar experience with Ocala Eye. I also tried to schedule a new patient appointment for an eye exam. This was for my husband who is self employed and does not have health insurance. He pays cash. When I phoned Ocala Eye to schedule the appointment, I was transferred to a voicemail, which I left a message. When my call was not returned, I called again. The same thing. The voicemail. The third time calling, I was able to get an actual person in billing. I was told that since there is no insurance the office visit for just the eye exam would be $350.00 and the earliest appointment would be September 28. Keep in mind, today's date is March 31. The staff there first of all needs to learn customer service and how to speak with potential patients for their office. Second, turning away a cash paying customer verses filing a claim and waiting to get paid and possibly being denied is unheard of in a doctors office. I have been a medical biller for 10 years and our practice as never, ever turned away CASH!!! Ocala Eye owners, managers, beware.
