Well I see dr Russell ferstandig. He is AMAZING…read more HE HAS made me feel not worthless and maybe I am worthless something I am PTSD AND GRIEF AND ANXIETY. He is the mind of Dr I know HE change our whole patient Healthcare NOT MONEY WISE SORRY HE IS NOT A POLITICIAN LOL ..I MEAN HOW PATIENTS ARE CARED FOR A TREATED. Doesn't treat you like a animal. Doctor Russell Ferstandig saved my life. This is a powerful and true statement. I was addicted to…read moreopiates, and was putting myself in dangerous situations, doc shopping etc to get what I needed. I was 100% convinced I didnt have the strength, courage or will power to stop taking opiates. That all changed September 7, 2014, my 1st meeting with Doctor Russ. He immediately put me at ease, spent well over 2 hours understanding my situation, and discussing his process and care he will provide to safely get me off opiates forever. I knew I had finally found the right Doctor as he genuinely cares about his patients and goes to "above and beyond" to ensure their success in overcoming addiction. I had met with 3 different, highly rated Doctors in NYC, who spent 10 minutes with me, prescribed Suboxone, with no further instructions or counseling. Each time I relapsed, and fell further into my addiction Doctor Russ explained his process, and the importance of following it for a successful outcome. Additionally he educated me on Suboxone and how and when to consume for ideal results. He coupled medicine with counseling, which was the key to his success rates. He is very humble, and doesnt share that he has the highest success rates with no relapses. He cares more about helping you understand and overcome the reason that lead to your addiction. As our sessions continued he prescribed and anti-depressant as I was in denial of how much my depression was sabotaging my life. As our sessions continued, I realized, he was dedicated to ensuring not only my success in overcoming my addition, but also rebuilding an enriched life. I find it amazing how he is able to remember and build upon each of our sessions. I thank God every day for Doctor Russ. He listens, never judges, provides guidance to build a great life and never watches the clock. I have gone well over my scheduled hour, and never received additional billing, I have been opiate free for 4 years, and continue weekly sessions as they make me a better person. In summary, Doctor Russ saved my life and to this day, provides the incredible insights and counseling to rebuilding a better life and self.

He is very kind, understanding and truly cares about me. In 2015 I lost my oldest daughter to an overdose , then in 2017 I also lost my oldest son, same way. Dr. Berkowitz helped me to get through this, he told me I'll never get over it but I've mamanged to be able to live and enjoy my life with my 3 other children and 4 granddaughters. I was on the verge of sucide! Dr. Berkowitz truly showed me compassion and sympathy. He actually took the time to talk to me and to tell me that my other children and granddaughters deserved to have a Mother that wasn't crying and sad all the time because that hurt them and they were also suffering from the loss of their siblings. I had to be strong enough to keep my family together. They needed me. Also advised me to get to grief groups, which I do go to and it helps tremendously knowing that I'm not the only one in this terrible and painful position. I love him, he is an awesome and caring Dr. He actually took the time to talk to me, when other Dr.'s just write prescriptions and rush you out. I'm very upset because he is retiring, but I'm also happy for him.I pray that I can find another Dr. that can fill his shoes, I know that I will miss him trmendously! He told me although he is retiring I can call him anytime if I needed to talk, he gave me his personal cell phone number. God Bless Dr. Berkowitz and I hope he enjoys his retirement and gets to travel a lot more. He loves traveling with his wife and friends. I can't say enough about what a wonderful, caring man he is!!!

She got out and was much better than when she went in (not an addiction situation but a physical issue that had anxiety as part of it). She needed after care for prescriptions and this was one of the locations nearby that was available. It's associated with HMH so seemed like a good idea, but it wasn't. They use residents to meet with patients, find out the medical details and have a general plan. Unfortunately, the licensed "psychiatrists" have their own agenda and do not at all seem to practice the "First, do no harm" aspect of the Hippocratic oath. They are all about getting people off of benzodiazepines, even if the those are an important aspect of physical health and quality of life for someone who has multiple issues and was just put into a combination of medicines from quality doctors. The resident understood her situation but the Dr came in and said what his plan was for her, which was to get her off the medicines she was on. She explained her situation to him, what the great Dr in Neptune had prescribed these medicines and how they affect her life. He didn't care, and said 5 times in a 10-15 minute talk that she was welcome to get a 2nd opinion! They would refill her prescriptions but would start going down on the next appointment, regardless of what Drs in several different disciplines had decided for her already. She went back for a different psychiatrist and he also pushed this agenda. Since this is Ocean County, and there are noticeable levels of addiction issues, they seem to have focused on that completely. If you have a family member with any kind of complex situation, this place will not be for you. Drs should have to understand someone and review what plan will follow and that's not what they did at all. They claim to understand but their entire focus is to remove benzodiazepines from any plan, no matter the patient's condition.

The second visit, I came in for my therapy appointment with a full blown anxiety panic attack, I was crying and super uncomfortable in my own skin. She told me to tone it down and when I looked at her confused and questioned what she had just said to me, she escorted me out of her office to leave. My therapy appointed lasted about 5 minutes. I ended up going to the ER right after with an anxiety attack. I do not agree on her tactics as a therapist. She does not know how to calm someone down during an anxiety attack. I went to this practice for a while but things took a downwards turn when my therapist asked me, during a session, if I was mad at her because she had to cancel one of our appointments. I found this to be extremely unprofessional & it honestly hurt me, as I hadn't felt angry at all or expressed anything close to anger towards her. My psychiatrist also asked me (during another session) if I was angry at my therapist, which I said again, NO! I just wanted help! After this, I decided to continue going to my appointments despite my gut reaction. I arrived one day to an appointment with my psychiatrist, already distraught. A key piece of context here is that my psychiatrist, during EVERY appointment, requested that I tell him the method & date of my suicide attempt in 2016, as well as other intimate details I had shared during my FIRST appointment. He was the only psychiatrist I've ever been to that did not understand how to maintain their notes as to not trigger their patients. I was upset every time I had to relay this information, which was during EVERY appointment. Instead of talking me through anything, he brought my therapist in and they both threatened to hospitalize me for a mild panic attack. I would have been fine if they had just offered me a glass of water or something but instead I was gawked at and threatened with hospitalization, something that I did NOT need in that situation. I, again, went to ANOTHER appointment with my psych and explained why I was so distraught that day- I had had a really nasty breakup the week prior that had a catastrophic effect on my stability and mental health. He told me that he thought that it was "boy problems", but he didn't want to say that when I was so upset. I felt humiliated. I began having anxiety about going to therapy, to the point where I just stopped going one day and quit my medication cold turkey to avoid having to speak to either my therapist or my psychiatrist. Never again.
