My once crisp lettuce was smothered with dressing like an elderly lady with a large bankroll capitalized on by her basement dwelling grandson. Again, not bad, but not great. It's a quick service type restaurant with the added convenience of a wait staff and REAL food. My personal favorites are the fried chicken tenders and catfish - always just the right crunch and perfectly seasoned. It's a very laid back environment with attentive wait staff. Very casual. I've never been disappointed with any item I've tried and I LOVE their waffle fries. They add a little zest with seasoning and are always a little crispier - just the way I like them! One of my fav places for my daughter and I when we visit Oxford. The choose 2 platter is generally enough for two meals. We often add an appetizer of rotel & chips and share - we always leave stuffed! Cheap-o tip: Careful when you order, if you ask for extra dipping sauce, you'll be charged. Obys was amazing before covid. For some reason they charge extra for everything lately. Also, every time I get gumbo now, I am basically ordering rice. It had 1 piece of sausage in it. I do love the grilled chicken Caesar wrap. I would ask for extra Caesar dressing on it. They do not put as much as they used to on there. Idk exactly what kid of food they are trying to do here. They claim to do Cajun, but a new kind of Cajun dishes that's about 8 hours above I-10 in the middle of nowhere surrounded by electric cars and college safe spaces. The food could be good if they knew what exactly they were doing. Everything is cold, mushy, and microwaved mess thrown on a plate. This place hit the spot! Line was out the door at 7:00 pm on a Friday night gameday weekend, to be expected. But the line moved very quickly and we only waited about 5-10 minutes after we ordered our food. Came to the table piping hot. Everything was excellent. I had the catfish po'boy and my wife had the Oby's chicken poboy. The sides of potato salad and waffle fries with rotel cheese were phenomenal too! This place never fails to impress! We come to Oxford a few times a year and eat here often. This trip was super impressive. Despite a HUGE crowd (line out the door) we found a table easily (had a party of 8) and our food came out quickly and was amazing! Staff was friendly and helpful! Everyone loved what they ordered whether is was a repeat favorite or trying something new! Definitely recommend. This use to be my top spot in Oxford, and on the day of my surgery I figured all roads would lead to them. My biggest mistake ever...often if my order is incorrect I just have it remade but I'm literally on one leg and barely hopped on the 1st time. So I call and inform Kyle the manager but he proceeds to say im lying and that his kitchen said they dressed it correctly. Looks to me to have Olive salad and Mayo. Parking spaces are narrow. Nice decor and clean. When you enter, there are menus you can look at, as well as a huge menu above the order counter. You pay after you place your order. You are seated with a number and they bring your food to you. The food is OK, my corned beef in the Reuben was hard to eat and didn't have much taste. My husband liked his Smoked Sausage Hogie and he would have it again. I wouldn't have the Reuben again. The chicken and roast beef sandwich didn't even look good to me. read more

We called in our order for curbside pickup. The young lady who answered the phone was in a hurry and somewhat abrupt and rude. In her defense, it was a Friday evening so they were probably very busy. But she put us on hold twice before even taking our order. The wait time was good - they had our food ready within 15 minutes. My wife ordered the roast beef po-boy sandwich and I ordered the corned beef. She said the roast beef was not good at all...the meat was tough and the sandwich was soggy and messy. Kind of a Macalister's feel, it was ok, but nothing special. Gumbo was not particularly flavorful or spicy, needed salt. Hot sauce helped it a lot. Lots of rice on top. I've been coming to Oby's for about 6 years, and it's not just the food that keeps me coming back - it's the staff, too. Last time I went, there was a minor mix-up and I waited about half an hour for my food - something that had never happened before on a normal weekend. I asked a server if they could check for me, and the manager herself came out to apologize. They brought out a free appetizer and a card for a free meal, too. I've never had this level of service anywhere else in Oxford. The food is good, the staff is great, and the tea is sweet. Give it a try. P.S. - Try the alligator! read more

Obys was somewhere we'd always try to eat when in Oxford - we are there a lot for sports. We won't be back after tonight. I ordered a shrimp po boy and requested remoulade sauce as it was very dry. Seems they do not have remoulade but was offered a Cajun mayonnaise instead which I was willing to try. The mayonnaise was delivered by the rude manager who brought it along with a ticket for $0.71 and a copy of the menu to show us the sandwich doesn't come with any condiments. Of course we paid it but this was the absolute worst example of customer service I have ever seen and I am a frequent business traveler. Obys: Do better. You have now pissed off a family of 5 who routinely drops $85 for lunch there all for $0.71. Teach your managers the value of customer service. Teach your managers that it's not worth losing a family's business for a tablespoon of mayonnaise or learn how to properly make a po boy. read more

As several have mentioned, it's very similar to a McAlister's, in menu, layout and general structure of the restaurant. The primary difference is that they serve more hot foods, basically adding some fried seafood and chicken to the options. They advertise as "Cajun", but it's not authentic - it's not even "Cajun-ish". The meats are very obviously frozen breaded and portions were definitely not generous. The two of us had alligator po-boys. One was ordered plain, one with tartar sauce. Both came with mayo, lettuce and tomato. Sent them back. The plain one still had mayo on the meat, so it was fairly obvious they just transferred the meat to a new bun. For $9.50, I got a hoagie roll with 6 frozen alligator "nuggets" with a bag of Lay's chips. In 15 minutes at the table, we were interrupted 5 times by wait staff, who stopped our conversation to ask if we needed anything. They were college kids who were obviously not trained on how to wait on tables and just making the rounds, so I didn't really complain. Not impressed by this place. I visited based on Yelp reviews, but it didn't line up with expectations. read more

Great meal with friends! The delicious smells of some good down home food met us inside, where we placed our orders at the counter. Our table of 6 ordered an array of po boys, platters, and sides, and everyone enjoyed their meals. I had a crawfish po boy, with a side of fruit and dip. The bread for the sandwich was a great texture, crusty outside, fluffy inside, with crisp lettuce and tomato. The crawfish was a really good sized portion too! My husband had the catfish po boy, and he said the fish was cooked really well, not at all greasy. We were all very full and very happy after a long morning of moving our girls into their freshman dorms. read more

I love Oby's, and everyone on my mothers side of the family agrees with me. We go a lot. I haven't been there in a while, but every time that I've been there, I left very satisfied. The service is awesome and so is the food. Oby's is a great place in Oxford to get a nice bite to eat with the family. They have really good chicken, and really good fish. Their fries are awesome and they have good sized drinks. They're a clean place and the servers are nice people as well. I haven't found much wrong with this place and I think they should keep up the fantastic work. I enjoy their menu and it's probably one of the greatest establishments in Oxford. Kabuki's takes the cake, but Oby's probably fall second in line. Without Oby's, there would be nowhere for me to eat chicken and drink a large Mr. Pibb. Four stars defines this place. read more

The service was great! Food came out in a timely fashion. I ordered a salad and my friends ordered a soup and the grilled kickin chicken. The top half of the salad was phenomenal but the bottom half was just average. I would also like to warn anyone ordering the broccoli and cheddar to be ready for more than EXCESS cheddar.
