We took the haunted ghost tours in OBX - Manteo, NC tonight. It was a great time. We met and were assigned Rowan as our guide. She did a great job giving us both history and the coast stories. The tour lasted about 90 minutes, which I think is the perfect time for a toast walk. We walked thru down town Manteo and would stop to hear the stories. It was good that we'd stop and everyone in the group could hear because we were all gathered and Rowan did well at projecting her voice. The walk was great is a sleepy, quaint town! read more

Bottom Line: A lovely walk around historic Manteo with some ghost stories sprinkled in. Spoiler alert. I've decided Manteo isn't that haunted. On a beautiful August evening I went on the Manteo ghost tour with some of my family members. The weather was perfect and our guide was an incredibly entertaining and engaging orator. Shout out to Lara! While the weather, our guide and the quaint town of Manteo were all terrific, ultimately, I just don't think Manteo and the Outer Banks are haunted enough to conjure up some goose bumps and raised hairs. Or, maybe we just didn't go to the spookiest of spots like the woods surrounding the Lost Colony theater or the Roanoke Island Inn. With that being said, the kids in our group, ages 6 to 16 enjoyed the ghost tour but didn't find it scary. I found Lara's story telling capabilities to be mesmerizing and inspirational. read more

Deceiving, In the advertisement it said we could use a ghost detector when we were on the tour we never got to use it nor was it brought up. the only thing fun about the tour was the lady doing it and her name was Julia super funny. read more

Not good 4 adults in our group. Left after 15 min (which was still way too long)... the tour ended up disbanding for weather 20 min later..... If you are a fan or casual viewer of the ghost hunting shows on the Travel Channel, you will be unfortunately disappointed. Stories (if you could call them that) were uninspired, scripted, monotoned, and "um" was every other word. We passed the Poor Richards Sandwich shop, ducked in for an adult beverage and stayed and visited with our group for the evening Our tour guide "Pen" who seems like a very nice, likable lady, ended up as a very uninspiring story teller. The presentation of the sites we visited on the walking tour was obviously off the top of her head. Best comparison would be like listening to a substitute English teacher trying to teach math from a new lesson plan to a different school district. Very fun tour, the rest of my family does not care much for ghosts or the supernatural but the tour included a lot of interesting history and our tour guide (BJ) was a very good storyteller. It was also just nice to walk around the Manteo area. I did not see any ghosts but the ghost stories were a lot of fun and they were ones I hadn't heard before. Nothing at all spooky about this tour. Basically just a walking tour with some history of the Outer Banks. Very dissapointed. Save your money. There are much more interesting activities on the Outer Banks. At $25 a head and as many people are on this tour they are making BANK. The tour guide asks for tips at the end. I would really hope for what they are charging for with basically no overhead that they are paying the guide well. My ghost tour actually ended up costing me $85. The glow in the dark bracelet they give you caused a nasty fungal irritation on my wrist. So after a $40 copay, $20 medicated cream and $25 tour my total investment was $85 just for me. Definitely will not be taking this tour again!! You can actually find much more interesting OBX "ghost" stories on the OBX tourism website. read more

I've been on several "ghost tours" and this was one of my favorites as Julia shared a lot of history, with a twist of urban legend into her presentation. She was engaging and earned a chuckle here and there. The kids and I enjoyed our time and it's a great way to spend an evening hearing about the past and some folk lore. read more

Ghost tour may be a bit of misnomer. The tour guide spoke at length about the historical happenings of the Outer Banks, which was very interesting. She told us tales of various pirates, colonists, shipwrecks, indians, ghosts and phantoms. During the tour we visited several areas around Manteo, about half of which were actually supposed to be haunted or have had rumors of ghostly activity. The other half of the stops were scenic, but really just a good place to stop to tell a story of something that happened on another island or on the mainland. As advertised they did have "Ghost hunting equipment" which was a electro-magnetic field detector that was supposed to beep when ghosts were near. All in all it was an interesting way to spend an evening learning about the history of the outer banks and the first colonies in the new world. Though I would strongly suggest finding the coupon code. This is an appropriate activity for smaller children, there are no fake ghosts or jump-scares like a Halloween haunted house. read more

I love history and I love ghost so there's nothing more perfect than local ghost tours. You get to learn about the rich history of the city/town that you're in and explore cool places (and maybe see a ghost!). Our tour guide was Julia and she was fantastic. So knowledgeable about Manteo and every site we stopped at. Her personal stories and experiences were also a nice bonus! The tour was about a mile long walk which isn't bad at all especially because it was such a beautiful night! I really loved this experience, I felt so connected to the town and I learned so much. I highly recommend this tour for adults/children/families, it's interactive and Julia engaged in every question that was brought up. read more

This is NOT a GHOST tour. It's a walking history tour. Went for the 7:45pm tour with nice woman was our "Ghost" tour guide. We ended up walking and and hearing about some history of the area... If you're interested in a bit of area history, great, as for ghosts... Fuggedaboutit! Yes, the Ghost part of mostly of them showing us pictures of "Orbs" they say might appear in photos you take and talking about some people that have died there in the past. read more

We have been coming to the Outer Banks as a family for the better part of 30 years. We always try and find something each trip to keep making new memories. This year my niece, father and I wanted to take a ghost tour. So I looked into them and chose OBX ghost tours. It's also hard to find family friendly entertainment at night in the obx. This tour was amazing. The tour guide was fun, knowledgeable, and could not have been better. He gave great historical information as well as ghost stories and local lore. The price was reasonable with the discount code in the visitors guide. All three generations loved the tour! read more
