Each of the two shows is about 26 minutes long. Beyond the Sun, In Search of a New Earth is a cartoon type animation designed for elementary school children. We are stars is a more adult oriented movie, with decent astronomical depictions. You need to make paid reservations a day ahead on the planetarium website, as there is a schedule of shows in English, and shows in French, with early day shows in English invariably sold out a day in advance. And the shows are not shown every day of the week. Located near Olympic Stadium in Montreal, just across from the Bioderm. Make you reservations first here at the Planetarium, and then spend the other part of the day at the Bioderm, and Insectarium, a mile away. Olympic Stadium is reachable by metro some 7 miles from downtown Montreal. These are not Imax films, simply ordinary movies, charging a premium price. First planetarium I attended without evening skies, planets, star systems on a domed screen. Could have seen it in a movie theater in French with English subtitles for less, without going to the planetarium.

The only thing that they could improve is to increase the number of English movies played at late afternoon on weekends and mornings on weekdays. 4 Museums in one area around the Olympic Stadium…read more We were there the first week of April 2024 going to see the eclipse. Took the subway to the Olympic Stadium. Around here are the Jardin Botanique, Insectarium, Biodome and Planetarium. Spent about 2 hours at the Insectarium. The first part is an indoor display of deceased butterflies mounted on displays. The second part is an enclosed butterfly greenhouse where live butterflies are free to fly all around visitors. Similar to the New Orleans insectarium which I reviewed earlier. The Jardin Botanique was closed for the season as there was snow on the ground, and would not open until May. Likewise the Chinese and Japanese tea gardens were closed.

The beginning of the exhibit is kind of lacking in terms of content, but it makes up for it in the end. The most interesting part was the atrium that had ants carrying leaves and other fibers. They're completely different attractions in separate locations, but in my limited memory bank, they sounded the same to me. The Biodome is basically an indoor zoo housed in the converted 1976 Olympic Velodrome, while the Biosphere is a climate change museum in a steel geodesic dome. It was originally designed by Buckminster Fuller as the US pavilion for Expo 67. The vintage appealed to us as well as other nearby sights, so Jamie W and I chose to visit the Biosphere on Île Sainte-Hélène, a separate island on the St Lawrence River. We had seen the distinctive structure from a distance in the Old Port, and it intrigued us as something built in 1967 to represent the future. The dated Jetsons-like architecture has been well maintained. There were two floors featuring interactive exhibitions and generic installations focused on climate change, sustainable development, and ecological action. They varied in their level of engagement. Maybe I'm a just a crazy nerd...indeed... $23 gets you a ride up the glass slanted elevator. The observation deck provides some nice sweeping views of Montreal, obviously. There's also some exhibits about the history of the 1976 Olympic games, which this city seems to be overly obsessed about. Not sure if this is worth $23 alone, but entry is covered by the Montreal Passeport($99 for 72hrs), so it was worth it for me.

They have package deals where you can go to the observatory and the planetarium thing, but it'll cost you like $70 per person. Total waste of money since the Olympic park is boring. This was a must on our itinerary for our final day in Montreal. We did take a uber there but proudly walked back. This museum was massive with 5 floors of all different mediums of Art. It was an easy map to follow to show me what I must! See and others that I call a fast pass, no lingering allowed :) I didn't read about it in advance so was surprised to see some of my favorites included. I got to see a Rembrandt who I love but got tired of after teaching it to middle schoolers for 5 years. There was a lot of modern and abstract pieces that were magnificent you will see in the pictures. Sometimes museums can be confusing in the layout but this one was perfectly arranged in such a way that I loved that after 3 hours the bottoms of my feet hurt and then we made the journey back to our hotel. We had a wonderful time and had to go around twice to our favorite exhibits! I forget the exact price for entry but I was reasonable.

From the hair styles, diversity of the dolls from all over the world and the designer outfits - the neat displays that they had here left us in awe.
